Just booked 1 x F (50K)& 2 x J (2 x 40K) TG SYD-BKK-KIX in April 2017. Screenshot method. It took 2 days to get the email(tickets were attached) in response and then I had to call and make the payments.(mixture of points and money) It was 2 separate transactions. The first transaction sailed through easily using my 28Deg. Card. However the second transaction was rejected by my 28Degree Card, then tried my black altitude which was also rejected. The Agent then informed me that a 3rd card being declined it would cancel the booking. Luckily my shiny new Amex Platinium Edge card worked. All together it took about 40 minutes on the phone this morning at 6.30am.

how did you calculate/communicate the miles/money desires that they work it out?

I had a rough idea where the sweet spots were in the points table. (points and cash component) They tell you the taxes etc. I also played with the Lifemiles Air Tickets search and put in some similiar itineraries and I could check out the fees etc. It was pretty close.

the taxes and fees are not the worries. Just to find out the miles/money sweet spots when not booking online might be challenging as I made the experience that the agents only do what you suggest/want w/out any own initiative/help

I ended up using 80K points for the 2 x J flights (40k) each. And I knew for my F flight that between I think 21-29k was the sweet spot. So I just had him deduct 25k in points and paid the rest using card.

I booked KIX - HKK J *2 (20,000 pp) on ANA in November online with no dramas and went into ANA to check that all was in order - it appears to be so with ticket numbers etc.

Last week booked 2 x J Asiana KIX-ICN-CEB (22.5K) each for April 2017.
Today 2 more seats appeared however they are mixed cabin. I needed 2 more so I went with 2 x J/Y KIX-ICN-CEB ( 22.5K) each. All done online and a lot easier than having to go with the screenshot method.

Using the Screenshot method I was attempting to book flights from Milan to Sydney via Brussels and Tokyo in Business Class for myself & wife.

All went well and I got a confirmed booking, Milan (LIN) to Brussels (BRU) to Tokyo (Narita) then Tokyo (HND) to Sydney. Wasn't overly concerned about the change of airports as there is a direct train service between the two.

Then called the Customer Support number in the USA to pay the fees and charges. Unfortunately the booking did not go through as the change in airports was "against the rules" and "the booking was issued incorrectly".

Fortunately the operator, Jose Carballo, was able to sort it out for me. He was very helpful and very good to deal with.

Ended up with confirmed (and booked) J (Business Class) tickets Milan to Sydney:
MILAN (LINATE) - BRUSSELS with Brussels Airlines
BRU - LHR with Brussels Airlines
LHR - HND with ANA
HND - SYD with ANA

Total miles 170,000 plus AU$414 in fees. 1hr 20min total for two telephone calls via Skype. (Manged somehow to avoid the massive UK departure tax on "luxury" travel).

Again I must compliment Jose on his efforts for us.

Thanks for the feedback

Was it two or three screenshots? That is, did you do Milan-HND as a single or split is Milan-BRU and BRU-HND? Seems like you did two, but if it was three that would be good news.

I did three screenshots.
One showing no availability for Milan to Sydney.
Then one showing Milan to Brussels, and lastly Brussels to Sydney.

It would be easier and faster if you take the limousine bus rather than train. Limousine bus is direct and the driver take care of the luggage for you. I find it much more comfortable than train. Bit more expensive but at only ¥3000 it's not that bad.

Gday

I dont believe it is against the rules as i can pull up loads of itineraries without drama online that transit a city flying in and out of different airports. IE Seoul (ICN and GMP), Taipei (TSA and TPE), Osaka (ITM and KIX) and low and behold Tokyo (NRT and HND)!

A great result for you though mate. Enjoy your trip.

Ok, thanks. I hadn't thought of that option (Milan-Bru followed by bru-syd). (I was excluding the 'no availability' screenshot.)

We have BRU-NRT-HND-SYD in Oct booked by screenshot, no questions asked, although they rang us for the payment. It may be that the US customer support is the issue.

Great booking. I'm surprised TG MXP-BKK-SYD didn't come up but you will be much, much more comfortable on NH.

Yes, that was the main reason for flying out of Brussels, the fact that ANA is a "Five Star" airline with 180 deg flat bed seats, unlike Thai & Asiana. Did not want to fly Air India as I have read some negative reviews about meals, lounges and customer service.

FYI data point: We flew Air India SIN-DEL-FCO on Lifemiles tickets last month and I'd do it again.
Hard product was good; their lay-flat seat was particularly good for foot-room.
IFE was better than I expected; screen and controls good, content not SIA or CX variety but I found that there was plenty for two long-hauls worth of recent release English language movies and a few episodes of a few popular TV shows.
Food was ok; Quite veg-o focussed, two ethnic dishes and two western dishes on offer for mains. Curries quite good.
Service was hit and miss; SIN-DEL our FA was possibly the best FA I've ever come across, nothing was too much trouble, he was extremely pleasant and helpful and seemed to genuinely care about us having the best possible flight of our lives. DEL-FCO was a completely different story, FA's just going through the motions and wouldn't even give anyone a doona to sleep under for the evening flight even though they were stacked up in the locker above me. No, here's just another flimsy day blanket from an empty seat nearby. (previous flight was a day flight but delightful FA was insistent on setting us both up with full doona and big pillows after finding out we'd been awake all night).
Lounge; I truly don't know why anyone would complain about the DEL lounge. Again I was expecting the worst but it was perfectly fine. Lots of comfortable chairs, good wifi, small selection of food and a bartender, pleasant ambience compared to the rest of the airport.

From my experience I would rate Air India on par with Thai when comparing their B787 lay-flat offering, service, food and lounges. There are better top-tier airlines of course, but I wouldn't avoid travel on them.

The only issue we had with them was we were through-ticketed from PER on SIA boarding passes, and when we arrived in DEL we needed to have them changed to AI boarding passes. Only they didn't tell us that's what was going on, we just got turned around before security and sent to an extremely chaotic transfer desk where they took our SIA boarding passes, said there was a problem and that we should go and sit down and wait, and a bunch of staff stood around the computer talking very quickly and looking concerned. Then about 20mins later they gave us new boarding passes and waved us through without a word. From what I could gather they were just all dealing with 10 different things at once and the new girl couldn't get the printer to work. But it got the adrenaline going.
