Avianca Life Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here

very nice - did you take it down to the sweet spot for miles + cash, or is that min. miles possible?

That was a bad mistake. I booked it for 65k+cash not 25k which is obviously impossible.
sorry for that, I just realized it after I couldn't edit my post anymore

Just booked ICN-CEB flying OZ. 12,000 miles + $335. 14,000-17,000miles was the miles + cash sweet spot to book in but I had only 12,000 miles so thus paid a bit more to book that.

Seems LM might be starting to take notice of some of the tricks.

One of those little dots in the Pacific has been rezoned. When I read about it I wondered if it might've been rezoned into Others / Oceania which would've been interesting!

Alas it seems to be in the same Asian zone as BKK etc. Might have some interesting permutations though.

The grand daddy of Pacific dots has still not been rezoned but it may be next...will expect much drama on FT if that happens!

But aren't these Pacific 'dots' only accessible on UA Y? I have no desire to do UA Y long-haul no matter how exotic the destination.

Well the one that's been moved has J service...perhaps it's less of a dot than some of the other dots!

BTW I've just realised I posted this in the wrong thread...any nice mod available to move the offending posts to the general LM thread?

Is this the one people try and match up to our favourite USDM destination?

That's an AWFUL lot of UA flying just to save a few points....

The J routing I saw ex MEL didn't even involve UA! But yes, as the airport is now zoned in Asia there is no saving to be had...5000 miles maybe.

ex-MEL? Im confused. Is there any harm in saying what airport it was and what it was zoned as now given its been corrected?

No don't think so. SPN. Gone from US to Asia...unlike it's neighbour to the south who is still US.

So as I said...I read on FT that it has been rezoned and my first thought was that the rezoning might be to others / Oceania like US...in which case it would be MEL-BKK-ICN-SPN for not a lot of miles! But as it stands it's MEL-BKK-ICN-SPN for 47,500 which is 5,000 less than MEL-BKK-ICN.

Just wait...someone will be upset that this info is here even though I think it reveals nothing! :D

Unless you're actually visiting SPN (i.e. through USDM) I do not think its worth going MEL-BKK-ICN-SPN-ICN-LAX etc when you could go MEL-LAX, just to save some points.

EDIT: Although I guess the reverse of JFK-ICN-SPN would be very sttractive to someone visiting ICN....

Hi. Thanks for this thread! pretty new to LM but giving it a burl for some flights later this year. I've booked for 2 pax:

Sin-lhr-fra-bio in J with Singapore and lufthansa

and

lis-fra-ist-auh in J with TAP then Turkish.

No funny business (at least this first time round)

cant remember exact cost - think it was about $3300 all up for sin-bio (for 2) and about $1700 for lis-auh. I had missed the December bonus offer :(

visiting family in auh. So then heading back to sin with Sri Lankan (cheap j fares) where we'll get EY J back to aus with velocity points.

still haven't sorted the aus-sin leg. Hoping for a LM bonus offer soon, otherwise will probably make do with scoot :)

Due to a bereavement in the family I have to pop home this week so I booked some flights this morning. There wasn't anything showing SYD - LHR so I booked the following in two separate bookings.

SYD - SIN on SQ in Y
SIN to LHR via ZRH on SQ & LX in J

I haven't arranged my return flights yet as I want to keep my options open. Tempted to give LH F another go or perhaps OZ F? Although there are flights open in J on OZ too.

The LM offer came just at he right time.

I am sorry for the reason for your travel, but at least you have been able to get availability.

Thanks Jessica

There wasn't much open on USDM for obvious reasons and Skywards availability is pretty poor so SQ not opening there reward seats until 14 days out helps out in these circumstances.

Sorry to hear about the loss.

Normally good availability on one of the four non-stops SIN-LHR. Was there no opening?

There was Don but the only flight open at the time was departing SIN at 12:55 which would mean an overnight at an airport hotel, so I thought grab the flight to ZRH and be home 12 hours earlier.

I'm trying to get 3 x J/F GUM to New York tix for New Year's (around 29/12) but can't find anything, even 1 ticket, GUM-JFK (or GUM-LGA). Any tips including suggestions of hidden city ticketing options that route through a NYC airport? Thanks!

OIC. For the return, if you can't get OZ or LH F ( good luck!) you should try J in SQ LHR-SIN or EVA LHR-BKK which is a good product too. Not sure if the SQ SIN-ZRH has the same flat bad as their SIN-LHR flights (with the SQ 318/319 with the newer business product) but I am sure it will be a good flight.

Hi Don

Yes we flew both Eva from BKK to LHR in J and LH from FRA to KIX in F in Dec and they were both very enjoyable. We tend to buy a cheap flight to mainland Europe when we return to SYD so tend to fly out of CDG, FRA or ZRH so would probably avoid the SQ from LHR although trying the new seats is tempting.

To to be honest I'll be monitoring LH closely and if anything opens I'm sure I wouldn't be able to resist it.

Thanks
