I think it smart to avoid cancelling when you're out of time on departure. I had a similar issue with an SQ trip last year, wanted to move it back a day and made the change about 36 hours before departure. Decided the savings of cancelling versus rebooking weren't worth the risk of not getting on the flight if any errors happened.

FWIW I had an excellent agent on the call, took less than 10 minutes to make the change. Although that seems to be the atypical experience for LM call centers.

Since we're bumping...

Did well the other day (pre changes) with:

Jan 4, 2 x F, BKK-SYD (TG) 130K Miles + USD $90
Apr. 6, 2 x J, BCN-SIN (SG) 130K Miles + USD $60

Overall worked out at ~ $AUD1150 pax per leg. I didn't have any problems with ticketing, seat selection, BTC etc but I guess I can still get TG'd...

i've done a few redemptions in the last couple of months prior to the redemption updates on october 15.

Jun 24 4 x J MEL-BKK-CDG (TG) 87.5 K miles each
Jun 25 1 x Y OVB-IST-CDG (TK) 12.5 K miles (Interestingly after oct 15 this trip is now 45 K miles.) Novosibirsk is now in North Asia zone and not Europe !

Jul 5 5 x J BCN-IST-LWO (TK) 22.5 K miles each

Jul 12 2 x J PRG-FRA-BKK-MEL LH & TG 87.5 K miles each
Jul 12 2 x Y PRG-ZRH-BRU Swiss 12.5 K miles each
Jul 12 2 x J BRU-BKK-MEL TG 87.5 K miles each.

All flights ticketed straight away. Seats have been chosen on TG flights only at this stage.

Cancelled a 3 pax USDM booking and some existing LM reservations and then booked the below:
29-12-14 MEL-bkk-SIN 1 x TG/SQ J
29-12-14 BNE-bkk-SIN 2 x TG/SQ J
05-01-15 SIN-CMB 2 x SQ J
19-01-15 CMB-bkk-MEL 2 x TG J

The return trip for the first pax is SIN-bkk-SYD(-MEL) via UA miles booking with SIN-bkk in TG J and BKK-SYD in TG F (and a rev VA Y MEL-SYD).

After much procrastination (as in over a year's worth  )
Inaugural booking :
TG F SYD-BKK-LHR
46K miles and $1183 US for end June 15

Was very painless :)
Booking with e-ticket visible on TG website.
Even scored a complimentary call from the Woolies Card Fraud Squad within 3 minutes of the online transaction

Well with all the furore over downgrading etc I thought I must check all my bookings. We have 2 Avianca awards coming up-TG F SYD-BKK in December and J RGN-SIN in January. Both awards were ticketed in January.both seen on respective websites. With the TG dramas ~ 3/12 ago rechecked and OK.But last night our TG booking contained only our names.no flight details so i fired off an email to SYD reservations.get a reply that we are waitlisted for the flight. What the.Promised that head office has been notified. On the Thai website I can get 2 discount F tickets so hopefully OK.
But I would strongly advise checking your bookings probably at least monthly.

For you or one of the princesses in waiting? ;)

With the Thai removal and reintroduction of First I have found using email has got me back to F with minimal effort.

I emailed life miles via their web page and they told me I'd need to get thai to rebook me into first then let them know so they can resyncronise the booking.

Emailed Thia yesterday half expecting things to go nowhere but today was advised they have got me back in F with my original seat choice. Now just have to wait for life miles to confirm they've synced things back up.

Fingers crossed.

I wish it was me but it is indeed my eldest daughter off with friends to Europe.
One of the girl's fathers is a CX pilot so she too is travelling alone.

Can only wish her friends will be able to travel just as comfortably. ;) :p

One great thing Thai do well compared to a lot of airlines is that most of their offices Australian and overseas respond promptly to emails and generally want to try and help. It is a great asset which I hope they don't change. The staff in the Melbourne office are great to deal with.

You must have been emailing different people to me, I found it such a struggle to get a refund and cancel a flight (J,fully flexible) with them. Took ages and they never replied within 2 weeks.

Does paying the change fee allow change in origin and destination within the same zones?

Which number do people call Avianca on?

I've been trying the US number but it just rings for a bit then disconnects.

Try ringing UK number, I have had more success with it than US number

Saw my VOIP provider has flat rate calls to Columbia so have called their standard number.

Hoping the call centre staff has understood what I'm trying to do.

At least Thai is showing the reservation in First. Avianca just need to do their part to get the reservation fully confirmed.
