Best QF Status Run options after 1 July 2014

Re: Best Status Run options after 1 July 2014

The thread is posted in the QF sub-forum so it relates only to QF.

The fact its in the QF sub forum is irrelevant. The purpose of a Status Run is to acquire status credits (from any source) as cheaply as possible and credit them back to QF. Almost any other Oneworld airline will deliver a better status run outcome (Best Status Run) than QF - hence my suggestions about separating the thread.

Re: Best Status Run options after 1 July 2014

Whilst I don't purport that it is a futile effort, eventually these things will get out, one way or another. AFF is not the only forum or circle where these kinds of things get discussed, and certainly not all of those forums have or will have the same thinking in this regard. Blogs have a good tendency to let things on a bit. Consistent bookings of certain routings or patterns will be noticed eventually, and even if they don't, they will manifest themselves in the overall analysis when airlines / FFPs do their data mining. Whether or not the relevant companies (e.g. Qantas) are sharp or read widely enough to see these is irrelevant.

You'd think with all the people rorting the SYD-MEL Discount-Y 10SC earn each day, QF would have pulled out of this route by now...

BD

I don't get it.

Maybe the thread title needs to be clarified, but I read this thread as a collection (or discussion) of status runs which can assist to build up QF status; not necessarily that these runs have to be on QF services.

Same. Its in the QF forum and specifically references the post-July 1 changes. VA has it's own thread, and I'm sure others can be started. Mixing programs in one thread would be mighty confusing.

Re: Best Status Run options after 1 July 2014

It's not mixing programs, its just listing all the possible status run options to get QF status...

It's one program, multiple options.

Re: Best Status Run options after 1 July 2014

From my perspective, the thread became the new "AA Status Runs" thread, though others were also talking about Asia runs and domestic runs. Personally, I'd rather see these various aspects in different threads, because when I'm hunting for an AA Status Run, or another time, an run I can do through Asia, I don't want to have to sort through all the various posts to work out which is what.

There's already at least one AA run thread I think.

Exactly, but scroll back a few pages in this thread and there's lots of posts about working the new system in relation to AA status runs... as an example using AA status runs, there's a few options I can think of
1. move these posts to the other AA threads
2. start a "New AA Status Runs under the Fairer/Simpler QF changes" thread
3. leave the posts here amongst posts that have people talking about AA, Asian and Domestic status runs.

Re: Best Status Run options after 1 July 2014

While I understand the frustration of having seemingly endless opportunity for SC runs listed in far away (and far from romantic) places, the base position is likely to be a status run thread limited to Australia would have few bargains. Read the BA tier point thread for similar results when considering the UK (or even Europe).

While AA has had a few double EQM offers, with both AA and for example, CX, the only real way to earn One World Emerald is to fly (a lot). Perhaps QF puts too much emphasis on paying to fly in the premium cabins with respect to earning status. OTOH the points earn from those same cabins don't reflect the ultra high cost of redeeming.

It's pretty clear to me. This thread is in relation to the best status runs to earn QF status credits. If you can do that on Air Nuigini Nui, then post here. But if you would like to post a run to earn status credits on VA, there's a sub-forum for that.

I hate the endless starting of a new thread everytime someone sneezes but, in this case, it's two distinctly different branches, albeit of a similar tree.

Re: Best Status Run options after 1 July 2014

BTW, JT, I thought this thread was entitled the 'best QF status run options'?? I take that to mean status earning via any means, not just on QF. If not, we should separate the thread into QF metal and non QF metal.
My motivation for starting this thread was to explore options for status runs to credit to QF, regardless of carrier, as you suggest.

Yes, Qantas Frequent Flyer Program Best QF Status Run options after 1 July 2014

Re: Best Status Run options after 1 July 2014

Yeah there is no way that QF would possibly introduce a specific "Intra USA Short Haul" section in the earn chart? Ohh wait....... :)

And that was designed to block which specific routing?

QF are quite capable of pulling out each individual FF# and the bookings credited to those FF#s. It wouldn't be too hard to run some basic analytics over that to see the general areas where they could clamp down.

So, by all means, get your jollies by speaking in codes here, but let's not pretend that QF cares about a specific route. That route might not have any YUPP next month. Or it might. What QF will care about is structuring the program, as a whole, to discourage behaviour that it doesn't see as profitable. And that means making broad decisions (like new distance bands, or cutting partner earn), not worrying about specific routes that may, or may not, have earning potential in a month's time.

The main legitimate reason I can see for obscuring routings would be to prevent the offering airline (in this case AA) from realising that it might have made a mistake. But if AA legitimately wants to offer this price, then I just don't see the point in being obscure about it.

Re: Best Status Run options after 1 July 2014

Changing the basic US segment boundaries from 1200 miles to 1500 miles automatically reduces trans-USA F flights (on AA) from 240 SC to 180. Should I decide to want QF status (still undecided more thanks to AA lack of soft landing than to QF superiority (or service from PER)) reaching SG with a couple of trans-continental connections is likely no big deal. Especially if you arrive in LAX/SFO and want to go to BOS/JFK/WAS/CLT/MIA anyway. And consider the base economy fares in the USA have gone up when compared with non-flexible F.

In any case, there are closer/less expensive status runs to be found if that's what you need. I'll start to worry when QF charges as much for tickets in SIN/HKG/PEK/NRT as they do in SYD/MEL/BNE.

Re: Best Status Run options after 1 July 2014

There is a local 7 segment run which is still possible, albeit a little less economical with the reduction from 1000 to 800 points per segment. When booked, the price range should be between $330-$380 to make it a consideration under the new scheme. Its a great trip for those that need to cover off on the required 4 segments and experience a range of aircraft.

What would be the earn for a WP in terms of points and SC?
