Best QF Status Run options after 1 July 2014

I managed to snag a P fare from SEA to PHL (via DFW) for $479 in early April for travel in mid May. It was quite a good deal as the costs to travel via ORD is the same as DFW and results in 30 less SCs. So the cost is US$1.99 per SC.

Is the SJU or AUA run adversely affected by the QF changes?

Any North American segment is affected by the changes; those under 750 miles significantly so.

So you need to look for routes with segments greater than that distance for best earn.

Thanks for all the tips! :)

I will try and play around a bit more tonight. I imagine I was trying too hard to tie the trip together with my actual destinations.

Okay, my grey matter just kicked in :o

I was thinking WTF, until the penny dropped. Then again, I'm a simple soul...

Pity I'm not up for a status run :(

Is WTF an airport code too? :D

Re: Best Status Run options after 1 July 2014

My once nemesis, went to see Dubya, then Tosh, just to get dopey.

Fairer and Simpler: 220 SCs for $324 USD @ $1.47/SC. Seems available year round and in reverse for the same price. Several other originations in nearby cities offering similar yields. Forcing 3 AA stops with Matrix helps.

As a reminder, please use some discretion rather than reposting in plain English for QFF to Re-simplify. Happy SC hunting!

Re: Best Status Run options after 1 July 2014

Hi all,

We have 10 days in EU and then arrive in YYT on the 28th of June.
Initially our intention was to drive over the lovely countryside and take in the scenery on the way too and back from my cousins wedding (5th July) in GEG.
I've been trying for months (well I tried a few months ago and then forgot about it) to book the ferry but just found out the only hire company that had a car available for the time I needed it doesn't allow the car on the ferry anyway so then it gets a whole lot of messy as you also can't drop the car at that ferry port blah!
So now I am back to thinking about a SC run, anyone have any ideas on a cost effective run (for 2) YYT to GEG and return - via any route.
The best I have found was US$1200 each in first but that was United and return to ORD. I don't mind driving but we have to get to the wedding in time, I was thinking something like YYT-SJU-SEA-YYZ-YYT but I don't understand the changes and obviously I want max bang for my buck. We are both WP at the moment, but my partners membership year ends 30th June so he will be NB unless he gets a soft landing (or we do a decent amount of flights 28th-30th June).
+1 wouldn't mind seeing Miami, and I'd like to go to Bermuda, but I don't want to spend $10,000 on the trip… not this time.
The purpose of the trip was to go to the wedding and see Canada..
Is there any EU runs?
We fly into and out of FRA but this would be pre July 1 hmmm..

Re: Best Status Run options after 1 July 2014

Ex Canada tends to be rather expensive - you really need to look at America solely South of the Niagara River.

Yes the problem that I am having is no matter what its turning into a chore to get out of Newfoundland… when I booked it was fine, but the +1 didn't tell me what he wanted to do so I left it, now its been left too long… he still hasn't decided but it needs to be booked or we will end up stuck.
Getting to GEG from any port in America was also quite costly.
We used USDM and have saved $1000 on the economy ticket the others in my family bought (and we get to fly J and see EU) … Maybe I should look at USDM changing the ticket if there is new availability into say BOS and taking it from there.
Also ITA matrix keeps showing me US flights that I can only book through AA (US airways website doesn't have YYT but they codeshare? the flight with west jet) and for whatever reason I can't book the flight on west jet directly either.
It's like no one wants my money :(

Hmm, not an expert on the flights, but am on GEG. I would suspect you may be better placed ending the SC run in PDX (Portland) or SEA; then driving. SEA/GEG is flat and straight, so an easy highway drive.

AS (with AA code shares?) PDX or SEA/GEG return, nested within your SC run might work

Another alternative is using Boise (BOI) as your gateway to GEG - an easy drive on the Interstate.

Just playing devils advocate here but do we know if the earning booking classes for partner airlines will be 'simplified' post June 30?

Relative newbie here but I like investigating possible status runs (in J) and have found one that sounds interesting.

Can anyone confirm my calculations are correct, post simplification?

On a partner airline in J going 190914-031302-030407
Would this get 320SC return, or am I getting confused by the simple table?

If my calculations here are correct, I have a few more that might be good too.

I hope I am reading your post right

If so, have you considered that from July, between Europe & certain part of Asia, it is only 80 SC for J on partner airlines?

I thought I would use this as an attempt to decipher the new earning tables. This is my calculation, using MileageMonkey for distances, with all travel in J and using the post 30 June earning table. Happy to be corrected:

190914-031302 is 1,709 miles which earns 80 SC's (All Other Flights: 1,501 - 2,500 miles)
031302-030407 is 5,276 miles which earns 80 SC;s (UK/Europe and some parts of Asia)

Total SC's = 160 one way. Return would be 320 SC's.

Therefore, Shantsa, I'd agree with you.

Thanks for checking Kerrodt

FYI that is a cost of $2100 for 320SC

Another less pricey option is $1000 for 240SC on same airline in J for 190914-031302-131205 return or $430 in economy for 120 SC

and if you tack on 131205-112112-081107 return in J on a different partner airline you could get an additional 320SC for $1150

Happy to have these checked!

Hi all,

I will be in the USA in October, and I'm looking for a Status Run that will give me 360 SCs to retain WP next year. I'll be arriving/departing LAX, but I'm heading to the East Coast - DC/Philly/NYC; any suggestions for a suitable SC run appreciated!

Thank you :)

Hi all,

Thank you :)

As LAX-DFW-BWI/PHL/JFK on AA are all in the new under 1500 mile category, the 4 segments in P or A will net 360SC. BOS-DFW should add an extra 30SC as it is more than 1500. Make sure that you check both AA and US, although at the moment, AA seems less expensive, especially when connecting in DFW.

Happy wandering

Fred

Okay.. so firstly, apologies if anyone is annoyed that I'm potentially giving away a good route, but I want to check what others think, and am hopeless at riddles.

So I can find LAX-DFW-ORD-MIA-SJU and return for $1811 USD which nets 660 SCs. Not the best ratio at $2.74 per SC, but not too bad overall. Connection times are not too tight, meaning I think I'd get away with taking luggage with me, rather than trying to find a place to leave luggage for the trip. For me, this trip reduces the need to find a positioning flight to somewhere, and I can do it all within 48 hours (leaving midnight one night, overnight in SJU and getting back to LAX the following night), and then get on with the rest of my holiday.

My primary aim is to get the highest number of SCs in a run, with value for money a secondary priority (that is, I'm happy to get less value per SC if it means I'm netting more SCs overall).

Any thoughts or suggestions otherwise? (Happy to receive any PMs with other possible routes... and if people really want me to remove the routing, pls PM with a riddle suggestion).

Looks like your getting the hang of this game Kevrosmith!

Here's another option for you... Outbound to Somers Isles 280 SCs for $597 @ $2.13/SC. Return leg to Sin city 280 SCs for $555 @ $1.98/SC. Total of 560 SCs for $1,152.

Doable within 48 hours if your that keen!

You guys have got me intrigued.... I'm in PHL for a month. starting from 0 so it might be an interesting time for me...

How do they generally calculate SC's if its greater than 750 miles? It goes to other flights?

Another question: If I'm in B1/B2 and I head to the Caribbeans, I'll have to clear CBP when I return right?
