Hardly irrelevant given we're in a mess now due to failure of political leadership starting at the PM.

No, it's asking for your personal health details. And you can get vaccinated quite readily without sharing those details with them.
So I guess you're opposed to being asked if you're fit to travel in an exit row?
 
oh the fakes are/will be a huge problem.

I would be opposed to using our personal unique health id number thing as a key to verify. Really what is needed is like a QR code or something linking to a separate identifier that medicare or AIR or whatever can verify as legit. Something that can not just be used by QF or whatever organisation needs to check but obviously by foreign border control people and the like when it comes time to go.. ie your vaccine passport. It needs to be digitally signed though and secured to prevent photoshopped fakes and also to be able to be verified.

Now sure, a bouncer at a nightclub is not going to care - you flash a phone with a green tick or whatever not their issue but for things like crossing borders this really will have to be a thing.

(and this is where the IATA travel pass comes in)

I don’t really care if QF does or does not delete the Vaxcert itself after verification. It is basically a receipt.

They likely store the info ?Cert? somewhere. There will also likely be a sunset trigger - say after a year as people will need boosters at least once a year.

They say that are storing the document number, and that is all.

SO are you saying that you don't trust QF is actually throwing away the cert after (auto) verification?

Now there probably is a flag in their CRM database somewhere sure, but the cert itself?

I could sense some sort of legal action if this came to pass (noting QF will obviously require an upload to the Travel Pass app when that time comes - but that's a separate issue)

I mean it makes sense to me that the record that you have been fully vaxed and ok to fly be flagged on your Frequent Flyer account

QF already has so much of our personal information from passport numbers to what we spend on credit cards etc to get points so is it really outrageous that they have our vaccine status?

At the end of the day we are going to have to show we are double jabbed to fly at some point so having that on your FF account makes perfect sense to me, who wants to be lining up at a airport counter to show your vaccine status or downloading the info every time when it can all ready be locked and loaded.

The new world we live in weather we like it all not I guess

Aside from the empty fluff of further supporting the already well-worn and obvious "everyone get vaccinated [so we can get back to business narrative]" and a smidge of good PR for a few minutes. There is no real incentive here, and the "rewards" are effectively useless unless you're one of the half dozen major prizes winners.
I'm sure they're interested in the data on what proportion of high status flyers are vaccinated and any potential data analysis there, but it is pretty likely we will hit that 80% mark nationally, and likely frequent flyers will be higher than that, so kind of pointless unless they're worried Gold/Platinums are somehow disproportionately anti-vax (unlikely).

At the end of the day, this is a nothing offer, and only really worth it for a chance at the major prizes(which the odds are pretty good for people in ACT/NT/TAS).

Really only tossing up between points for the $20 voucher here...

This is purely a marketing exercise and an engagement piece.

In any case you're exaggerating my statement. My original statement was that this is a low offer for what they're asking you to provide, and I gave comparisons of offers you get with no requirement asked of you. Nothing to do with blanket opposition.

Does it really matter why? Take your pick of prizes and then forget about it. Better points earn than Red Planet!

I suspect there are real privacy and access control issues with the AIR and private entities accessing this data. I am not entirely sure a GP or hospital can (but happy to be corrected on this).

I mean if QF (or whoever) can access this information relatively easily this is open for misuse in a number of ways, and I am not sure this is a wise idea.

And really it would mean giving your medicare number or whatever to QF. I doubt many would be too happy with that, and not entirely sure the AIR or gov would be. This way we're uploading OUR proof of it and does not require any connection to this data.

I understand of course what you're saying but I believe data privacy concerns, access rights and other issues are at the core here - and this is pretty much a world wide issue which is giving rise to things like the IATA travel pass app to try and solve this issue. And I'm pretty sure that works in a similar way.

again happy to be corrected but I am not too sure too many people would be too comfortable with a private company being able to query medical information directly.....

Yeh I applied on the Tuesday afternoon and it came through today. I guess the best use will be a return for free sale. In the past we've seen OOL-SYD or MEL-SYD return for free priced around $55, with the $20 off it works out at $35 for the return trip or $17.50 oneway. It'll probably be more expensive to get to the airport if I'm able to get something that cheap.

I could go and get the study which shows that actually small incentives can work just as well as big ones (yeah, despite what you think sometimes just the narrative is what's important), but clearly you are in the camp of damning Qantas whatever so I won't bother.

Given some of the comments on this thread your wording amused me and I did have a laugh. My twisted sense of humour immediately took me back to when my daughter was younger and when at carnivals/ shows having to pay to put ping pong balls in a clowns mouth and "everyone wins a prize". These days it seems like everybody wants "something" for nothing and then complains that the "something" is not good enough.
