Recent BTC meals:

Lamb cutlets with rosemary jus and potatoes. Delicious. The lamb was pink and very tender.

Indian style braised lamb shank. Was a bit surprised at the presentation, but it was great flavours.

Lobster Thermidor

I know this sounds possibly a bit snarky, and I don't mean it to be, but I'm curious. I look at this (currently trying to find Suites availability to Europe and back to surprise Mrs Phoenix) and that lamb looks spectacular, the Lobster Thermidor looks a bit "Meh?" I've been lucky enough to eat an amazing amount of different crayfish from freediving/spearfishing over the world for many years. Is it really that good?

30,000 feet in the air
Pre cooked
Possibly preserved somehow
You are eating in a confined cabin

Vs

Freshly caught ones by you

No brainer for me

Honestly I can say, you can have too much Crayfish/Lobster in your house (I miss the 10 bag limit in NSW, yet environmentally I'm certainly happy it's gone). Whilst I've made some amazing meals with fresh lobster, this dish is always raved about on every frequent flyer forum out there, and any dinner you don't cook yourself is always going to be amazing (especially with Krug and such on the side) The Lamb looks more like a full dish to enjoy, or, should I just try and endlessly stalk those two suites tickets to Europe try both and judge for myself?

next time you have too much lobster, please invite me over, I will make it all disappear without a mess :)

I am allergic to all crustaceans so Lobster never an option for me

BUT FWIW:

On 217 SIN-MEL on Mar 29 the dude in 3A BTC Lobster Thermidor - presentation was SPECTACULAR - his verdict was EXCELLENT - but as always YMMV

I have had F BTC Lobster Thermidor some ten years ago. It was very pleasant but a lot of it was the novelty (for me) of eating lobster off a china plate on an aeroplane. I ordered F BTC laksa on a different flight and found the cabin crew were really interested in a white guy ordering hawker market food. Got me a whole heap of conversation and attention. Later in the flight I wanted ice cream (not on the menu) and the cabin crew sourced me some from Y. They were very apologetic, but it didn't matter because that's what I wanted right at that time. And on another flight in F, I have preferences Tiger beer over Krug. F is about having what you want, when you want - not just having expensive stuff for the sake of it.

I have managed to luck into some more F redemptions and am planning on the lamb shank curry and the hokkien mee soup.

Mr H your exps are just std fare in SQ R / F - hold a Gold or Maroon BP (jeez I detest the new generic all white BPs) and you are ‘King of the Castle’ - ‘your want is their desire’ - want any F & B item not on offer up pointy end but is available down back then just ask - it will be whisked to you before you can say ‘Hazel is GORGEOUS

*Come to a MEL AFF do and all will be revealed.

Reading this made me just book it for Sunday night ex-Sin in Suites.

Just curious, departing Suites out of Sydney next week. Do they still have coloured boarding passes?

Also, my partner is allergic to crustaceans and raw seafood. I know we can BTC a suitable main meal, but I've noticed often the entree/first course is caviar or another seafood dish, which might be unsuitable.

Does anyone have experience with finding out the full menu before a flight, not just the mains?

Your screwed - White BPs as far as the eye can see.

What flt are you on?
I can attest to this - all white BPs at MEL, regardless of class. Not a good look IMO, poor form by SQ. I wonder if feedback can be submitted?

On my last SQ218 F, I BTC'd Lobster for my partner and me. That flight, lobster was not available, we got an profuse apologies from ground staff and FAs. Best of all, we got SGD$200 vouchers for NOT HAVING BTC Lobster.

So, from now on, I always BTC Lobster and would recommend it out of Melbourne. After all, local lobsters taste better than Lobsters out of SIN (sweeter and taste fresher from Melbourne). If you don't get it, you get a shopping voucher instead, it is a win-win situation.

I can attest to this - all white BPs at MEL,

The check-in staff joked that this is the new Non-Discriminative and All-Inclusive Initiative by Australian Airports to make F / J Pax feel like part of crowd.

The lobster thermadore seems to get widely varying reviews. I hear some people rave about how good it was and then others bag it as being bland, over cooked etc. Sadly my experience was the latter: rubbery, not much flavour and nowhere near enough sauce. Is there a particular port to fly out of that is more likely to have a good one? I was ex-FRA FWIW.
