Shanye, you have had a great win here, with a lot of help from MEL_traveller. I can't believe your attitude, at worst it is xenophobic with regard to travelling through Egypt, if I was doing what you are doing I would be disappointed I wasn't allowed to have a couple of days stopover to go exploring! "Australian looking", what does that even mean? Are you white, black, brown? Speak English, French, Thai, Japanese? It doesn't even matter, your just another person.

Also the argument you are now pitching about it being an indirect flight doesn't stack up with the rest of your itinerary you have as it is all over the place! To get 4 seats in J (let alone in Y) at such short notice on what looks like a great product is a win all round. Right now I would accept what you have and what a great deal you have got and go ahead and enjoy your trip. Stressing yourself out by just trying to make it 'better' is ridiculous.

Also, ever heard the saying that "if you can't afford travel insurance you can't afford to travel"?

Hi Travelislife well said I couldnt agree more with you and sugest that the OP is bordering on selfishness. Personaly had some one gone to the amount of trouble that MEL traveller did I would be absolutely delighted with them and the outcome. I noted that in one post the OP mentioned he was hated on another site perhaps he does this all the time.

And well as for no Travel insurance as cant afford it wonder how then he will pay for any medical emergencies or other issues or will he expect the good old Australian Governement to bail them out. Selfish is all I can say and how very very very disapointing.

I've lost count of the number of times you have said this in the past 24 hours.

It's true though! Yet people keep bringing up the 'infant' - there isn't one! There are 2 children!! Arggghh! :D

I must have got confused as the op was saying the child would be under two at time of travel. maybe that was for the original itinerary last year...

Hi Mel,

Would just like to say you are more than helpful on everyones posts and have saved this op from ruin! Well done and I speak for many of us when I say thanks for the time and effort you put into AFF!

There have been sooooooo many itineraries, it's understandable!

thanks for the kind words... I am just happy to be able to give a bit back when the opportunity arises! :)

Rightly said..it should be a Big thankyou to Mel_traveller on this one.

I'd also like to echo my congratulations to MEL_traveller. You really came to Shayne's rescue on this one. Well done!!

Mel_traveller is better than my TA...

the question in my mind is how did this person who has never travelled overseas achieve so many miles to do this complicated+super bargain+ J/F booking?

Read the other thread and you will learn that you will never need to ever step in a plane to earn miles. Most of it would have been purchased miles, some of it through other promotional/marketing progams eg. buy X thing or stay at Y place and earn Z miles.

...the same way that all the rest of us have been doing it for 2.5 years now! Albeit normally paying the correct amount of miles for our trips...and in many cases being satisfied with relatively simple itineraries.

Can I ask why this isn't classified as a RTW flight? Isn't a flight from SYD to Europe back to
SYD via the states not deemed a Round the World flight?

I think in terms of US award redemptions a RTW flight is one that allows multiple stopovers en route. Shanye's itinerary involves a destination and 1 stopover as per US normal return trip rules, although it looks to me like they are the wrong way around...if 140k has been charged. I don't think simply crossing both oceans constitutes a RTW.

Ok well that seems a pretty decent award booking to me.

I have always booked my flights originating from the UK - I know that travel
to Australia via the states from Europe is banned but could I in theory
return to the uk from Syd via say ICN and the states?

Thanks for the great advice as normal

Thank you .

This is a worrying thread. I have bookings in June on the 777-300 on TG922 from BKK to FRA for four of us all in F - two adults, a 6yo and a 4yo. Like the OP I have spoken several times to Thai staff in Sydney who are well aware we have two young children in the F cabin and they have never said anything about any restriction.

Reading the thread I see the rule banning children expressed in a number of different ways - is it both F and J or just J? And is it all 773 aircraft or just the ones flying to CDG and Tokyo?

I'm going to ask about this in the Thai forum on FT because I can't believe nobody has encountered this before.

Plan Your Trip : Reservation & Ticketing Terms & Conditions

Due to safety reasons, Business Class traveler on TG676/677 BKKNRT VV, TG930/931/932/933 BKKCDG VV and other certain flights operate with 777-300ER , THAI is temporarily unable to accommodate infant(s) and children under 8 years olds who travel alone.

well done bcworld finding this!! although it is ambiguous!

my reading... no infants in business class period, and children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult (that is, no unaccompanied minors unless over 8).

so I wonder if there is a further issue with shanye's ticket.... either thay consider one adult with two children too much (and deem one of them unaccompanied), or was it the issue of the PNR being unlinked?

I have a feeling it might be the former... that one adult must be responsible for one child in the herringbone configuration to ensure seat belts etc are on and the child does not move around the cabin.
