Thinking out loud here in case there are any others thinking like me:
Fly to AKL on a Friday, check into the AKL Hilton, long lunch Sat, fly back Sun, hangover Mon?

If the lunch is on a Saturday, and if I do not end up on the G550 (and TBH the chances are probably against me being on it), and if the dates suit, this sounds absolutely perfect! No rushing around. :)

Easter weekend would give many the 4 days off..

I see Boss Reggie is in the house - amazing you can be awake & online so soon after flying in to LHR.

Maybe ask BR where he likes to stay in AKL? The timing sounds good.

Many years I learned how to stop or at least make hangovers very tolerable. And NO it doesn't involve drinking less booze. I discovered this about 15 years ago. Read this:

Hangover Prevention and Cure

IT WORKS. IT REALLY WORKS. When I go out to a heavy drinking event I take 1 x 100 mg of B1 before each drink. In the morning, NO HANGOVER. Zip. Zero. I have shared this with lots of people, especially a few really heavy drinkers and it has never failed to work. Once in a caravan park I shared it with a group of bikers that had a big tent next to us. In the morning they pounded on my door until I opened it and told them what it was I had given them. I gave them a bottle (100 pills). They next morning they gave me a $100 bill. Said it was to pay for the bottle of B1. 100% true story.

So if you see me taking a small white pill in before each drink in AKL you know what I'm doing. BTW when taking B1 you never seem to lose control. It is as if a part of your brain stays in control. But hey it is still party time.

Oh BTW there is another side effect. Your blood alcohol level is lower than expected. I know as I tested it on a police breath analyzer during 2 parties. My friend, who was a copper, bet me that there was nothing that could slow down the rate of blood alcohol increase as you drink. Well he lost his bet and now he and his mates use B1 when getting on the booze.

A bottle of 100 x B1 tablets costs less than $10. Try it and you will see it works. I use Beatmin. Always carry one bottle in my car and one in my PC bag. It is sometimes a behind the counter pharmac_ product but is lower cost and seems to work better than the vitamin brands:

And time for a leisurely breakfast Sunday, and maybe lunch too. One of the trials of being a good eater.

I'm interested in the 8 seat G550 option.

I don't know how the quote appeared in my post. A slip of the fingers ... Or ipad

But such a fine looking plane ride it is. You are too kind Bossreggie. Much +K to you!

I'm a most unlikely starter, but look forward to the trip reports. And boy am I slow to find these threads...

Cheers skip

Currently very interested...
Like Princess Fiona's suggestion
Don't need to take leave to do this if on Sat (have to work to pay for this;))

Definitely interested in this & Option 2, obviously subject to final dates. It would be a great opportunity to meet everyone & put a face to handles that have been a great assistance with parting of their knowledge on this forum since I joined earlier this year.

I like the Princess's idea.

My birthday is 28th March and I want to see Wanda Sykes in MEL that evening.

I'd probably avoid Easter weekend as I always take +1 somewhere at that time.

I'm good to stay at Hilton or Pullman. Hilton makes it easier to stumble back to our rooms!!

If there are enough people staying at either hotel I'm sure we can arrange some type of pre drinks drinks!!

I'm keen for a saturday lunch too,
Another accomodation option, in addition to the Pullman and Hilton would be the MGallery, which is currently being renovated to become a sofitel, not sure what dates though.
The Hilton will probably by far be the most expensive of the 3 (unless the sofitel decides a few renovations make it worth 3 times what they're currently charging.)

The Hilton location works best, the Pullman isn't too far, but it's up a hill, and the MGallery is probably about 5 minutes walk around the viaduct.

One potential advantage of the Pullman/MGallery for people with accor status is a late check out of 4 pm so if people fly out on sunday evening, it'll be better

Another cheaper option for those who are coming just for the food, and are looking to save, the Mercure Auckland (not the Mercure Auckland windsor) is about 2 minutes walk, and can be had for 100 NZD (maybe 80AUD?) a night, and they have an unofficial policy of upgrading A|Club platinum to any available suites, which could be nice.

The hilton standard rates are about 450-500NZD a night for the base room, the pullman is about $250NZD a night for the base room, and the MGallery is from $160NZD, but isn't showing pricing from beyond the 10th of Jan, so it may be related to a brand change, or it may just be not in their system.

Hopefully that gives some people a better idea of a few options there are...

Dare I suggest the weekend after BR's birthday.

In Friday 30th March and out April Fool's day.

Great news - my wife is planning a trip to Bali with a friend, leaving me with the kids for a few days. This dramatically increases the chances that I'll be allowed to attend (subject to available award flights).

Have only just stumbled across this thread, and would be interested in coming along, dates pending.

I am happy to pay 1/8th or 1/16th of the charter or the nominated rate. Additionally I would be happy to travel one way only and allow another AFF'er the opportunity to sit in my seat on the alternate sector to experience the G500, subject to Bossreggies approval.

Definitely a maybe subject to dates.
Have spent my last two days on AFF trip reporting rather than reading.
