Can you believe this [No XL PJs in F]

From CNS to BNE 0600 yesterday on DJ E190, two pax about the last to board, took their allocated seats. Then they got up and swopped seats. A few minutes later, both got off the aircraft. The captain announced that the passengers were not well enough to travel, the flight would be delayed some 15 minutes for luggage to be removed. Did he have to provide reason?

... the dummy spit by 2 passengers, which delayed departure for 400+ passengers is not in the slightest bit rude?

What dummy spit? They did not get what they paid for so declined to participate in the rest of the flight. Anything more than that is conjecture without foundation. Yes, this surely delayed the departure (but not the arrival time - yay for short flight!!) but the fault was 100% with Qantas. How can you possibly charge for F seats without catering the basics for them??

I'm siding with the pax on this. They paid cash for the ticket - at least $15k round trip and it's not like no large passengers ever fly ex USA.

It Sounds more like they had a series of poor experiences with QF that day and pjs was what tipped them over.

If they wanted to 'suck it up' then they would have flown Business or UA.

That is a dummy spit. They were offered a solution on board, yet declined.

No, that is not a dummy spit. That is a perfectly valid refusal to accept the cough that an organisation assumes you will swallow. The ¨solution¨was clearly unacceptable to them. (probably in part due to the delivery of same)

As for the pilot, I am sure he will suffer too for this incident, which is only partly his fault. Maybe someone here can come up with a justification for Qantas not being able to offer pj´s to a $20000+ pax?

It;s not only a dummy spit it's staggeringly selfish. Delay the plans of 400 odd other people because you were slightly inconvenienced? I'm not sure which alternate reality you are posting from but in mine that's incredibly poor form and fails the basic test of decency towards other people.

... Delay the plans of 400 odd other people because you were slightly inconvenienced? ....

Following that logic where does it end? If they missed out on champagne? Their amenities kit? A seat that reclined? Oxygen? What is not a ¨slight inconvenience¨? And why should someone who paid a zillion dollars have to expect less than what they paid for? Why didnt the captain get on the intercom and say that they had charged a couple $40,000 but couldnt provide them with the basics that were expected, so the couple were offended. Would have been a far more honest company announcement.

Clearly we have such differing world views that there's no point in even arguing it. Wow is all i can say.

Sorry 777, I just got bored reading all the lynch-mob, hate posts against this mystical couple. A thread where everyone just tries to outdo each other slaying some unknown person just seems pointless. So I argue for the unrepresentted party. Professional habit :)

Perhaps they only have a certain number of sizes on board? After all, every airline seems to be trying to reduce weight, so maybe they have a certain number of each plus a few to spare?

I can appreciate you're expecting some PJs, but to get into a heated argument over not having your size seems rather OTT IMO (and asking to be offloaded? - to me at least, that really is overkill.)

On several flights, I haven't eaten simply because they've run out of beef/chicken and the only other thing on offer has been fish. Yeah, I was p***** - why didn't they have enough loaded to accommodate me?? The spiels for all classes of travel on the QF website, state what you're going to get - well I didn't get a choice of meal? Does that mean I should have acted like spoilt child? Certainly not. I'm a mature adult and conduct myself accordingly.

If I had $20k to throw around on flights I'd be thrilled - but the lack of availability of PJs on a flight, certainly wouldn't be grounds for me demanding to be offloaded. Perhaps it was the last straw? Who knows, but in the grand scheme of things, it does seem to be a storm in a teacup - and quite possibly blown up even further by the media.

I think you nailed it twice here. The Last Straw syndrome, and a media blown-up story.

Really, the effect of this incident was minimal. Qantas failed to provide jammies for a premium pair of pax, and so instead had to pay for an increased fuel burn to speed the aircriaft to arrive at the same time. So the remaining pax were not inconvenienced, and Qantas footed the bill. Slow news day.

Maybe QF need to change their policy on when to hand out PJ's.

Wait until the plane takes off prior to handing out the kits..........therefore, silly people likes these two will then have no choice but to HTFU & get on with life.

I think you are allowing the media to lead you. They are good at that. Think carefully what actual ¨facts¨you know here are.

As I mentioned earlier, why not have the opportunity to choose your size PJs when you book your flight - just like making a meal selection? (Vegan/Kosher/PJs: L/XL)
That way, they'd have your selected size on hand and nobody would be inconvenienced and you'd cut down on additional weight too. . . . (Or is that just using ones brain too much, to come up with a simple solution?) ;)

I have been in QF F twice-OK an upgrade from J with points.First flight-F pj's for mrsdrron but none my sizeL/XL is what they supply so you dont need to be a hippo to need that size.Second flight they had none-told someone forgot to load them.On neither occasion did it cross my mind to leave in a huff, nor even to complain to the FA.I just turned my thoughts to the upcoming meal.So sorry Juddles having been there, seen that I consider this reaction a huge dummy spit.
On both occasions it was QF1.

Maybe they handed all the larger PJ's out to the CL's & WP1's sitting down the back;)

Hehehe - didn't think of that. (I'm guessing this could start a whole new thread - "If you aren't flying F, are you entitled to L/XL F PJs if you're CL or WP1?" ;)

Thanks for the input - you seem reasonable. Having done just a ¨little¨ travel, it would take me quite a bit to ask to get offloaded from a flight - can only recall two times I have done that in the last 30 years. So I suspect that these people suffered a combination of things that culminated in the ¨dummy spit¨. Unfortunately the story peddled by the media (dummy spit over pj´s) is too attractive to the masses to ignore.

I'd say about as much as you!

Only facts we have here is that a news story claims a couple allegedly asked to get off plane and a pilot claimed it was due to pj´s. We know nothing what led up to this incident. EVERYTHING else is fabrications of posters.
