China - what is actually the reality there?

China is supplying 'the world' at the moment, not withstanding some major countries tear strips off them for starting it "on purpose" according to them. Anything to avoid being blamed for inaction.

And it is mainly one country that is making such claims, and where the incumbent is in a Presidential Race. And after having made so many bad decisions needs to keep the blame focused elsewhere.

I was reading an online article from the AGE news service by Peter Hartcher and came across this:I have to presume the implication is true given it's source.

Good article. Thanks for sharing, though more for the whole article and not just the interesting point you highlighted.

I was not a ScoMo fan, but he after some initial misteps has stepped up to the plate exceedingly well. Crucially he end up acting decisively, swiftly and well on most things.

Credit too to Labour for the bipartisan approach. And also in the way the State Governments have worked with the Federal Government. When watches the USA at present is is very sad they way their politicians of both parties are still seeking to point score. Sadder too has been the ineptitude of their President with respect to CV19. As the article mentions too Boris led the UK down the wrong path for way too long.

Without wanting to get political, I think our system, where the country is lead by the leader of the party(s) that command a majority in the lower house, and minister appointed from the same party(s), serves us well in these type of circumstances. I'm no monarchist, but I will take our constiutional monarchy anyday over a republic with a popularly elected president (irrespective of political persuasion). The system we have lends itself well to clear leadership and no opportunity for leaders diluting responsibility.

Impossible for us to know what’s happening in China. Credit to NZ on how the situation has been handled there.

I feel that in the most part the word China in Hartcher's article (who is always worth reading), is interchangeable with 'America'.
I believe Hartcher was pointing out a contradiction:
Wuhan has been opened up, just this week, after successfully eradicating the virus
... AND ...
Beijing is allowing entry of a maximum of 1000 people from Wuhan per day, and only after they've been tested for the virus
Both cannot be true; the presumption being the word "successfully" in the former is inaccurate.

Sorry CE that report further muddies the waters.Paragraphs such as this-

"Most of the severe patients (in Wuhan hospitals) have turned negative in nucleic acid testing, so the anti-virus treatment is no longer needed," said Yuan Yufeng, vice president of Wuhan Leishenshan Hospital that mainly treats severely ill patients."

So if they are now testing negative for Covid why then are deaths reported as being due to Covid?

Then there are other reports out of China.
"According to a report on Monday by RTHK, Hong Kong’s public broadcaster, residents said hospitals in Wuhan had refused to test patients who showed symptoms. Kyodo News in Japan reported at the weekend that a local doctor said the number of cases had been manipulated before President Xi Jinping’s visit earlier this month, prompting the beginning of “a mass release of infected patients”.

So this report was from 24/3 nearly 3 weeks ago.So why so many cases still in hospital?
I do hope Lily doesn't get into trouble for that report. And this one.

“I’m walking past someone, then they see my blue eyes and jump a foot back,” said Andrew Hoban, 33, who is originally from Ireland and lives in Shanghai.

Experiences range from socially awkward to xenophobic. An American walking with a group of foreigners in a park in Beijing saw a woman grab her child and run the other way. Others have described being called “foreign trash”. A recent online article, under an image of ship stacked with refuse being pushed away from China’s coast, was headlined: “Beware of a second outbreak started by foreign garbage.”

Don't believe this at all:

About as believable as this:

This however, this I do believe:

100% - the Africans and Indians cop it very tough in China. When I was in China in my early 20s we saw some ludicrous examples - e.g. the German kid who got a job teaching English and claimed his accent was South African, compared to the African-American native English speaker who couldn't get the same type of job no matter how hard he tried (even with a literature degree background).

I learned a long time ago that we all pretty much practise our own brand of racism. Whether it is conscious or just insidious. Don't have to scratch Aussie much to see a bit of the old policies we had.

I'm thinking this is aimed at me, precious petal that I am. As I have said in other posts, it is the political system in The Peoples Republic of China and their official news outlets that I don't trust. (You can add the DPRK, and many others)

Sure you can ask the locals what is happening, as per up thread, but is what they are saying compromised in any way by the party propaganda machine?
I'd like to ask them about Tiananmen Square, what do they know about it, if indeed they think it even happened.
Ask them why their government finds it necessary to build islands in international waters.
Ask them about the treatment of minorities, granted a lot probably don't know or don't care, they are too busy trying to make a living, fair enough, they may be very nice, friendly people, but in my honest opinion, their government sucks big time along with many others in the world.

One good thing is that we know not to trust their official news outlets. In the anglosphere (US, Australia, UK) a lot of people do trust the official news outlets of the PRRM 😁 , but I don't think we can either.

Agreed, I don't trust Faux News at all either.

Not aimed at you or anyone in particular. Just a general comment. I lived in a place where Australians were definitely the dominant and top of the polepeople and the other nationalities were much lower down. It was a bit of an eye-opener for me.

I think it's a pretty good insight to understanding the 'reality' in China.

A wechat post today copied a western opinion piece that China owes (the world) an apology. The accompanying comment from the poster - young (late 20s), well educated, good english speaker with a great job - was 'I thought westerners were our friends but now i know they're not and I was so wrong'.

I meant to say that “we all”, I meant all nations not just us. I think it’s quite a natural thing.

Sometimes I think the tag racism is thrown around too much when it comes to asking the tough questions.
