Applied for the platinum card on Friday. It was pending approval, so i submitted my previous 2 payslips in netbank.

Didn't get hear anything further from them (SMS or email) but just checked my Netbank today (Wednesday) and it has been approved!

The card is already appearing in the commbank app waiting for activation too.

denied. last june Comsec rang me and begged me to take out a margin loan. badgered would be a better word. in the end i took out the minimum and paid some piddly amount of interest in advance for the tax deduction. this was at the end of three calls, telling me i really needed to do this. anyway, i can actually borrow enough to lose my shirt but i dont. but i cant have a credit card? huh? anyway i dont care, except for the 40,000 qf points. i was going to ignore it but i am in a bad mood so i decided to try and point the stupidity of this out to someone...(glutton for punishment) ... they can see all the divs that come in.. they cant see my super but i sent evidence of that... it makes no sense. i dont really care... its a game.. but i did point out to them that when i was up a ladder citibank rang because i wanted to close my account and would not be put off before i caved and borrowed 12,000 interest free for 2 years. commonwealth and bankwest are getting a bit old and grundy in their approach. anyway it turns out if i had just lied about my other credit potential liabilities it would have been approved. i dont have any credit card debt. i was told sometime that they add up your potential liability so i answered truthfully about that. but the point remains, they have my comsec account which shows that i have more than enough to answer any debt.(still really love the franking credits, tho.) it wasnt my income that was the problem, it was the potential liability but from the discourse, i realised i should not have admitted to the potential liability of other cards. that is news to me. but this in no way vitiates the potential liability i could have if i accepted the margin loan they offer me

I don't think it pays to be brutally honest when applying for a CC the sole purpose of which is to gain points. That in itself is a game, then so should the application.

I will be applying for CBA as soon as I ditch the NAB card in a week or so. It is only for the points. Like you I was courted, wined and dined by CBA around a decade ago. They got my business, well the half I didn't leave with WBC, and then some years later I took a call the innuendo of which was I was about to be wound up my CBA held properties. I called WBC and asked if they were still keen to improve relations. They were and CBA didn't see me for dust. Be careful with any loans, they are quick to round on you. If you need a business banker intro at WBC, give me a call. ;)

I believe we are in the company of kind-of FF royalty Fran. Welcome to AFF, I am looking forward to any pearls of wisdom.

earning points and miles has been a great passion of mine for many years.. and ive derived a lot of benefits as a result. hence my arrogance on the phone with cba. frankly, 40,000 points isnt worth much trouble. was asked to report to branch and dispute...haha..not bleedin likely.

Hmm....that's interesting. I did the same, but my pending/conditionally approved has disappeared and there is no reference to the card at all. Perhaps a knockback letter is in the mail.

Threaten to transfer all your shares and margin loan to a new broker. June is coming up so your fixed interest should expire soon. Also you can easily get much better rates than the advertised ones. Probably won't result in them giving you the points but commsec is the most expensive broker anyway.

The "truth" about your other credit card liabilities is that "truthfully" it's none of their business. The game is about taking advantage of them before they take advantage of you.You have to look out for your own interests, it's a dog- eat-dog world!

My card came out in the mail on Friday. Is the direct earn to QF already sorted out, or do I need to call Commbank Awards to sort it out?

I think the T&C's mention that if you record your QFF number points credit automatically. T&Cs state a $10 fee applies to sign you up to the direct sweep to Qantas and this is automatically debited from your account.

If your application was like mine, we are yet to provide a QFF number so a call we be required. I also want to confirm the anual fee waiver as my schedule doesn't mention it or the bonus points.

Is there a time lag on inputting data so that if you apply for 2 credit cards at the same time they are each unaware of the other application?

edit: Maybe I should ask if anyone has applied for 2 cards at the same time? What was the outcome?

Thats interesting. I applied via the link but completed application in NetBank. I Don't recall there being a spot for the FF number.

After your card is active you need to opt in through the awards site to credit the points to your QF account and you will enter your FF number at that stage.

From OzBargain:

So I applied for this card (through the links provided) and was approved. When the cards arrived, they were not the Platinum cards so I called CBA and they told me I didn't meet the criteria so approved me for a lower card, without any of the benefits this one has. Well done CBA. Need to call back and cancel/complain tomorrow. Thought I would let people know as this could happen to others I suppose.

Has this happened to anyone here? Applied for 3 credit cards up to around April so might skip this one...

This happened with NAB although they called me before issuing. I asked them to review as I would only want the Platinum one and within about 3 days they called back to advised I was approved. I think my income / expenses passed with flying colours although because of my credit score being low due to a lot of recent applications they pushed me down.
