Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.
 
Been constant complaints of pepple from down south clearing out the shelves in the local supermarkets. Haven't sighted any, probably because I'm in self isolation :rolleyes: . Not just buses, but convoys of vehicles too. No mention of race, just regarded as marauding, mindless bogans.

So this morning Woollies has imposed a two can limit *total*. Not just by product. So if you have a can of tomatoes and baked beans, you can't also get a can of fruit. Crazy! Coles allowing 2 cans per product type.

Just had a look at the Woollies website and the wording hasn’t changed - 2 cans per category....maybe some stores don’t understand what that means.


I usually do my shopping early Sunday morning because I don’t like crowded supermarkets at the best of times (too many stupid people). Coles was fine, must have just missed the loo paper restocked - but I don’t need any. But no yogurt, no mushrooms and no kitty litter. Woollies had all of these.

The kitty litter is a bit interesting though - what the **** are people buying extra kitty litter for? I don’t believe there are any more cats in my suburb than there were 3 weeks ago. I have a 100% indoor cat, so am just stretching out the change out schedule.
 
Coles had pasta this morning but a brand i have never seen before. Maybe supply has run out of normal pasta. $2.60 for a 500g packet.
 
Really want fresh bread but don't want to unnecessarily go out.

Regret giving away the bread maker now... But I have yeast so can make at home if I have to

Local FISH shop at Ashgrove (Rufus King Seafood) has pasta and sauces overflowing onto the footpath! Must have been a lost container on Stradbroke! :D
 
At a local Woolworths this afternoon. No toilet paper on shelves (haven't seen any on the shelves in 10 days). How did I know that some had just arrived? Heard an announcement over the PA for a security guard to come to the back dock. I watched that security guard arrive and within 10 seconds the toilet paper started to flow, one packet at a time :)

I was offered a packet and declined as I don't need any. People were stunned that I said no. One person asked me to take some and then offered to buy it from me after I went through the checkout. As that person already had their one pack limit I declined.

Went to Aldi (Keppera) today, had TP, tissues, mince, dairy - no pasta, no soap, and had some small packets of rice ie serve 2 persons. Not much frozen stuff, but staff were restocking freezer area.
 
I saw the broccoli at $10+ per kg and opted for a nice bunch of Mexican asparagus for $2.00
 
Sister-in-law contacted me yesterday to say she was having trouble finding toilet rolls - I think she has been too busy cancelling a trip to France next month to notice....

Anyway I did say if she became desperate I would let her have some of our small stash!
 
I think anyone who buys or resurrects a second fridge/freezer needs to have a visit to the room full of mirrors.

There are no supply shortages of toilet paper, pasta, mince, etc.
The only identified resource in short supply is common sense

A quick survey of my rather pathetic larder gleans an estimated 30 days of meals (sic) and about double that of alcohol (natch).

I would venture the opinion that my reserves are on the low side of average - so what are people worried about?
 
I'm not judging people that have a 2nd fridge, some people have large families or buy bulk when half price.

I usually do a big shop once per month of meat/chicken meals and smaller weekly drop in for fruit and veggies, cheese, milk. I would have that now plus 3 extra cheese blocks (hubby eats cheese every day), 1kg of mince and 1kg of sausages. My fridge is upside down so feel my freezer is small. If I had kids, especially teens, I would want a deep freeze
