Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

I think anyone who buys or resurrects a second fridge/freezer needs to have a visit to the room full of mirrors.

There are no supply shortages of toilet paper, pasta, mince, etc.
The only identified resource in short supply is common sense

A quick survey of my rather pathetic larder gleans an estimated 30 days of meals (sic) and about double that of alcohol (natch).

I would venture the opinion that my reserves are on the low side of average - so what are people worried about?
Maybe people don't want to cook if they are ill for 2 weeks? And I don't usually freeze toilet paper.

@Denali similar to you we do big shops infrequently
For that reason we do have a second freezer which does help in general
But do you have mirrors coz apparently people who have a second fridge or freezer need one?

My post went sideways but Moody did post about people going out to buy one or plugging in an unused one but if they did, they might have had their reasons like large family or like me, they simply do not want to leave home for 2 weeks.

I only found out this week that teeny tiny, eats very little mum in law has a deep freezer. No idea what she uses it for. She no longer makes big family meals so wonder what she's got in it.

I still wonder what people are doing with all the bloody pasta they've bought.

WOT? Did I understand correctly that you don't usually freeze toilet paper but now you are!
Well, yes! Don't you? 😁

I was referring to a post that I consider to be unnecessarily snarky that said that people who have a second fridge or freezer needed to visit a room full of mirrors. Simply because they didn't use one. And for some reason toilet paper got thrown into their comment.

I have a second freezer but it only gets fired up at Christmas.

Saw a post on FB about people in USA putting up their Xmas lights to lighten the general mood. Does that mean I should now fire up the Xmas freezer??

I was quite specific to call out unusual shopping/hoarding that necessitated the purchase or powering up of another fridge/freezer.

As the saying goes - if you’re not part of the solution .....

And Red capsicum over $10/kg

I saw the broccoli at $10+ per kg and opted for a nice bunch of Mexican asparagus for $2.00

Seasonal and weather growing conditions effect and remember major supermarkets have also cancelled most specials so they can make more money, cough - sorry, to help where they can to stop panic buying as well :)

Broccoli is usually a winter veg, so it's normal to be more expensive at this time of year.
