Indeed, I get the impression Aussies are too busy emptying supermarket shelves to go on holiday!
cheers skip

Not at the supermarkets I frequent. And at Costco, when don't shoppers here have full trollies?

I think it is more that hand sanitiser has a run on.

Just sent out in comms from Brad the WoW Group CEO
Business As Usual on Monday 23rd of March

As at 8PM Sunday 22nd of March

Team,

Firstly, another big thank you for all that you’re doing, and continue to do, to look after our customers and fellow team members during these extraordinary times.

As many of you might have already seen in the news, several State Governments (including Victoria and New South Wales) have begun adding further social restrictions to prevent the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). I know this may create uncertainty for many of you regarding the role you (and we) need to play over the coming weeks as different rules and preventative measures come into place.

Tonight, I am writing to let you know that on Monday 23rd March, it will be business as usual at Woolworths and we will continue to focus on our incredibly important role of supporting our customers with their everyday needs - whether you work in a Woolworths, Big W, BWS or Dan Murphy’s Store, Support Office (who may already be working remotely), Customer Hub or, critically importantly, one of our Distribution Centres.

While it will be business as usual on Monday, it is highly likely that some combination of the Federal and State Government will announce new restrictions that will come into effect from Tuesday onwards to combat the spread of COVID-19.

While we anticipate that these new restrictions will be material, we do not expect them to apply to all (most) of our business, which we expect will be defined as “essential services”. As you might imagine, we are seeking urgent clarification on this, but in the interim, and in the absence of further communications from me or your line manager, I would ask that you all assume that you (and we) are “essential services” and we continue to work hard (but safely) on behalf of our customers and indeed the country.

I will continue to keep you updated as more information and clarification is made available by Federal, State and Territory Governments. Thank you again for continually being Better Together as we all collectively work as one team to put our Customers, Team and Country 1st.

Stay safe
Brad

Absolutely, given that people are expecting to be spending hours on the loo from all the panic buying of loo roll we've seen. With all that extended use, sooner or later the seat will break and they'll need a new one stat.

The article says that stores may have to close if they are part of a shopping centre. So freestanding stores may still be ok to open.
I think they mainly wanted to stop the pubs and clubs that were being heavily patronised. There's no firm decision yet but it would be kind of karma if Gerry had to go full online only.

Australian Government keeps the liquor stores open (including those attached to pubs).

From live broadcast
Stage 1 of Response – Australia wide. Reviewed monthly (likely to remain at least six months). Following will be closed:
- clubs, licensed premises (hotels) excluding off-licences (bottleshops), entertainment venues, casinos, nightclubs
- restaurants, cafes (open for takeaway only)
- places of worship/ churches
- indoor sports venues

Schools remain open, but parents can teach at home, and schools directed to try and provide assistance
VIC schools still close Tue with holidays forward a few days

"Do you have any mince out the back?"
"There is no meat out the back"
"... then do you have any beef?"
"o_O. There is no meat out the back"
"what about po..."
"The only meat in the store is on the shelf"

Do they have any fries left?

Alcohol now being hit in NSW and Vic at concerns that bottle ships won't be deemed an essential service
Does anyone have any idea whether things like landscaping/gardening services will be able to continue? They are outside and don’t go anywhere close to anyone else.

Under "national rules" - yes. Individual states (e.g. Vic NSW) may implement their own stricter rules.
