Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I normally look for people who write in-depth reviews, or have written plenty.

I dismiss any short reviews, or low count reviewers.

I think anything above 4.0 is solid, sometimes I'll buy 3.8-3.9. however I rarely go below, because I find even reading bad reviewers most people will give a 2-3 and rarely a 1.

It could be a nice wine and for the price, it has to be worth at least that! A few commented on being grossly overpriced, may of scored higher if it was cheaper.
I try very hard not to score higher because it was cheaper and I often wonder if some of the critics do actually do that when they throw in the line along value for money. I'm not that old, but no longer young, to have come to the (rather profound) conclusion that, other than to try, I can only drink one glass at a time hence to spend a night drinking wine that is OK (based on price) is a lost opportunity that I could have spent drinking something nice that I can then say "I enjoyed that wine and I want some more of them"

Yeah Vivino is definitely to be taken with a pinch of salt but if you hit anything above four stars usually you are heading in the right direction.

I must say that it gives me a google giggle reading some of the reviews...there are some w@#kers out there! Myself included 🤭
Definitely take Vivino with a pinch of salt. Wolf Blass Brown Label is 3.6 and I have tried a few vintages and it’s excellent wine. I do think people take into account value for money in their scores on Vivino, so generally someone would have $50+ or a lot more at a restaurant for the wine, which could make them less happy about the purchase.

I don't know this wine but the second label Bordeaux's generally aren't great from my experience. There are some lovely Bordeaux wines but I think with bordeaux you get what you pay for and you always pay too much.
I travelled in St-Emillion and did some wine tasting. I certainly prefer an Australian take on the Bordeaux blend than the Bordeaux blend. Maybe it has got to do with the local hospitality!

Got this as a dan murphys special
I know nothing about French stuff.

If I cellared this would it become a amazing wine? What about drinking now?
It looks decent to me. In regards to cellaring it kind of depends what vintage it is...

I personally love Bordeaux, the terroir, the earth that you feel in the glass, I don't really find it in a Aussie Cab Merlot at similar price (comparing with the price you get them in France...).

As for the hospitality it is certainly a question of perspective and experience but yes Bordeaux chateaux are usually pretty arrogant.

Completely understandable. I liked the fact that they don’t release them as young like we do in Australia.

Hey guys, any idea’s on this mystery from winestar?

Edit* Actually it’s this

Yes it's the Schoolhouse. I was eyeing this off as well but with a 12 bottle minimum I'm a bit shy as I have not had it before. The reviews seem reasonable but a couple of comments on Vivno around it being "smokey" make me hesitant. Does anyone have any experience with the Schoolhouse Cab Sav?

I believe that @kevviek had some in the past and reported a positive experience. They are also frequently offered on VM in a sixer.

I'm pretty confident Schoolhouse 2019 is offered through Skye Cellars for $170 a case/12. That's like $14 a bottle, and people are paying $20?
