Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Maybe a case of 6? Surely not 12. $14 would be ridiculous.

can you prove lucluc?
Why is it ridiculous? I assume it's the same wine, Schoolhouse Headmaster?

I've mentioned the business multiple times for deals and it's been ignored.

I've bought super quality wine through them as their local and basically 5 mins from me.

2018 vintage seems to have wax, 2019 does not. Maybe they used wax for export?

Both vintages rated very similar, by the same judges aka checked Winestar. I double checked the winery website and their the same wine.

I'm not sure why 2018 is more expensive, I assume they're charging for the wax fancy seal 😂

No I think it’s a different wine.

I'm pretty confident Schoolhouse 2019 is offered through Skye Cellars for $170 a case/12. That's like $14 a bottle, and people are paying $20?
Thanks heaps @olympicwiz, @Mynameislucluc @Cmjritchie . I think the one at Sky Cellars is the less premium "Headmaster" but I could be wrong. CW Schoolhouse Headmaster Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 - CW Wines

How's it a different wine, when you're listing a different year? 2018 & 2019. There isn't a seperate year for either of them, that's the only 2 listed.

Wax to me, is export.
2018 is rated better 95/96, vs 2019 94/95 by the same critics.

Both state "our premium Coonawarra vineyard". It's the exact same wines different vintage. Email the winery, 100% you're paying $6 for a wax seal & slightly better rated vintage

Ok. Ima just leave this here...

Headmaster is there second teir wine in the Schoolhouse range.

Im not even quite sure why we’re still talking about this?

no doubt the Headmaster cab is good to and $14 from the shop you mentioned is a good price for a decent Cab Sauv from the coon.

can we all move on now?

You can leave it there.

Pay 50% more, for basically the same wine rated 1pt higher.
If there's a slight difference, it would be slight & not worthy of a 50% price difference.

I emailed the winery to clarify it for me, as I'm genuinely interested in the difference.

Yeah sweet, it’d be good to know for future purchases if there is a difference..

thanks for emailing the winery for us all to get some clarity 😊

Wild duck creek allocation period is coming up and tasting notes for new release due in about a week. Any suggestions from the group?
I received the tasting notes in the mail and confirmation of my allocation. Shiraz pressings and Alan's Cabernets were scaled down (I got 3 + 6 vs 6 + 9 originally requested that actually worked out fine). I called them up and ticked what was left available.

So much for the China factor - it looks like they have sold out most of their wine via the allocations.

Bingo. Took all of 2 minutes research to work it out:

Headmaster RRP $55 (reds)
Non-Headmaster RRP $80 (reds)

It's not going to be just the wax but if people wanna believe that, go nuts.

2nd tier which is rated a single pt less by the same critics, and $7 less a bottle.

It's your money.

How did it taste
This is what I wrote (I’m no Sam Kim):
Ok, mine got delivered so I had to open one up. I’m not much good with the descriptive, but am quite happy with $17ish per bottle. It’s not as good value as the Rose Kentish that I got from Dan’s recently, but it has complexity, fruit forward with a bit of pepper on the nose. Bit of an earthy aftertaste that I’m not a fan of, but maybe with a few years it will improve. It’s got a diam 3 cork, and the “wax dip” is actually plastic.
—> of course the rest of the Rose Kentish wines I got were damaged ...
