Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I got them on chat and sent them a BWS clearance link to match (he usual 1/2 of the full freight RRP). They had it in stock but sent me a fine print stating that they won't be matching online clearance prices. I cannot locate it so perhaps it is no longer an obstacle.

With clearance stuff it’s probably better to try and PM in store if possible.

Dan Murphys will never match Clearance stock, it's always been like this.

They matched my St Hugo's $10, only because LL did not have it listed for Clearance. It was listed as 4 for $40. Believe me, they rang LL in front of me and rang another Dan Murphys store to check.

Store manager was not happy, I went to a 2nd store and he matched & told me not to visit anymore stores or tell anyone 😂🤷

You could get lucky, but honestly I found 99% of Dan Murphys store managers rude.

I got heaps of VC and FC clearance stock PMed at DM last year. As I said it’s very much state and store depended.
Yep that was my experience too last year. A nice store that matched a screenshot of VC's MM Quintet and Yalumba Octavius prices (even though by then VC had sold out), but then another local store refusing. A total luck game.

It’s very much state and store dependent. For example in VIC I found many store managers checking carefully the fine print then go online to see if the item is currently in stock while in QLD at most stores I have visited the managers are happy with just a screenshot, not caring if the vintage is matching or if the competitor has any stock left. At some more remote stores I was even told DM don’t usually PM clearance stock but “since you are here we’ll let you grab few bottles, just this time…” :)

Online price match:
Don't even bother. Waste of time.

To price match, there has to be a DM store within 15km of you that has the exact wine and vintage you want to price match, otherwise they will decline the price match request. Even though you are requesting an ONLINE price match - which should mean a match against all inventory available online for Dan's, not a bricks and mortar store inventory within 15km of my house.

The call centre person that takes your call has no discretion, they need to "escalate" any requests to a manager, and you'll have your time wasted by being on hold for aaagggges.

Dan's online price match is a blatant sham.

Store price match:
Some of the store managers seem to take a price match request almost like a personal insult, with the money coming out of their pocket.

I've found that usually better to make a price match request in a store located in a less affluent suburb. There's usually less care factor, and the manager/employees know less about wine and are more likely to ring the price reduction through.

Thats been my experience too. They seem to get quite annoyed by it and they just use the 'thats lower than cost' line and refuse it and tell me to go to that store to get it if its so cheap. They have actually been quite rude about it. I couldnt even get my local to match another Dans that was 5km away.

Being part of Endeavour Drinks has given them the impression they are bigger than everyone else and as such can act woefully. Customer service used to be by phone but now has to be via live chat only. Also Cashrewards is also not participated in any longer.

Unless they are willing to price match something out of stock, its not worth doing given cashback can be added on top for the other retailer.

"I beat all my competitors every month, every week, every day, every hour, on every price, on every product, on every bottle..."

They do actively price match (or beat by 5c) their competitor set (LL/First Choice/Boozebud/Vintage) including catalogue offers. More for the everyday consumer in that you can shop Dan's and buy whats on the catlogue at those other retailers.

I very rarely buy from them now and will pay that little bit extra to get the product elsewhere

This ☝️ is VERY true. Some of my best PMs were top shelf wines in less affluent suburbs.

Another way to say it is the more dust on the bottle the higher chance to get your PM approved 😂

….and that is the intent of the statement. Cheaper everyday on their competitor’s every day prices, including published specials. I think most of the complaints in this page are about them not price matching on clearance items or pricing errors…

It's interesting to hear all these bad experiences. The nice chap who price matched some great wines for me last year replied when I asked 'do you price match?' said "no, we price beat!", then helped me clear them out. But it is hit and miss and one does feel grubby when refused.

Via email from Cellar One:

I last ordered in August 2021.
