Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

I had similar - when I first logged on St Peters was $50 then I looked back an hour later and it was $55

Just did some more checking: Devil's Lair Chardonnay was $25/bottle (which kinda matches the other offers out there - VM, myWineGuy etc) so I wasn't interested. Now it's $33/bottle.
So, I think there's definitely different levels of membership here.

Local DM had stocked up the deleted lines/clearance table. Quite a varied bunch, some of the items I picked up;

2012 Rocland Estate Grenache $15
2011 Shadowfax Geelong Pinot $19.79
2010 Tyrrells Vat 47 Chardonnay $27.50
2010 Bannockburn Geelong Pinot $27.50
2006 Toolangi Estate Pinot $20
Zuccardi Zeta 2007 & 2010 $20

Other wines I noticed but didn't buy, 2006 Bannockburn Chardonnay, 2011 Yarraloch Stephanies Dream Pinot, 2010 Shadowfax Chardonnay, 2011 Tscharke The Master montepuciano, 2011 & 2013 Hardys HRB Chardonnay.

I thought BigW cards were now locked to BigW and not able to be used at Woolies etc...?

Nope.

The electronic ones may be. But the physical ones are not. The back of the card lists all WOW businesses.

I bought several thousand dollars worth at the end of 2015 and am still using them. I used some at DM and woollies last week.

If you have any doubts I'd suggest you buy a $100 card and test it at a Woolies. If I'm wrong, or they've changed things since yesterday, then the worst that will happen is that you now have a 10% off $100 gift card to be used at Big W in the next 12 months.

Thanks Dr Ralph - also saw Accor discounts, might help out at my BIL birthday at one of their restaurants

Thanks for that. Buy in store?

I have searched AFF but can't find any posts about Naked Wines. Does anyone have experience with this mob and, if so, are they any good? We have received a $50 discount voucher for them.

I have never used them myself, but people whose opinion I trust says stay away.

FWIW, I am sick of Cellarmasters, Virgin Wines, etc, and suspect these are just another similar outfit.

They seem to promote payment plans or regular weekly payments that build up account credit that can then be used to select the wine you want - one of my staff buys regularly from Naked and loves it but is not interested in VM - she has never had an issue and has been regularly buying mixed cases from them for 10+ months. Becoming a NW "Angel" does reduce their price and may even give free delivery(?)

I have a $100- NW voucher and a $28- NW newbie discount and for me it is a waste of time - the delivery charge for a case of mixed wine I'm not really interested in is in the order of $40 for me and when this is added back onto the price the case is about $100 - it also seems most of the wine is very expensive / inflated or unavailable for me to purchase because I am not an "angel" I could get something that suites me better from WM for less if I wanted a mixed case.

NakedWines seems to have a completely different business model to CM, Virgin etc. They have a roster of winemakers that your money goes to, they produce wines, which you then get to buy at a discount. So, you're not really able to buy the range of wines you could get via CM - instead you need to see if there are winemakers on their roster that you think will make wine you like.

Largely my experience too. I keep getting $50 vouchers, but don't want a cheap mixed sampler pack of wines I'm not interested in and the ones I do want to try are all exorbitantly priced unless you've already committed to being an "angel". Unless their model changes, I am doomed not to use naked wines! I suspect they probably would not want my custom anyway...

Food for thought:

$50 off something you don't want or don't need still means spending money you don't need to spend...

Thanks Steady, that's great feedback. Will give a mixed red dozen a go at $50 plus $12.95 delivery with the voucher but reckon I'll be sticking with WM and DM too unless the wines astound me.

The $50 voucher is ubiquitous.

Everything I have heard about this organisation tells me to avoid it.

This wasnt clear in your original post (electronic versus actual).

OK.

Criticism noted.

I'm sorry for wasting your time.

I'm happy not to post information about such offerings in the future as it confuses you.

wow - thin skin? This is very helpful Dr Ralph- and something that you and I discussed about a month ago on this thread - I for one will be taking up the offer and am thankful you brought it to the attention of this thread!
