Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Yep alerting the forum to upcoming release of 10% disc WISH cards certainly good posting - and greatly appreciated - don't take bc's post to heart Ralphy - hell even I posted a less than perfect post ....... once! (Not likely to be repeated either)

OK.

Criticism noted.

I'm sorry for wasting your time.

By such overt criticism you've made it clear that you don't value such information, so I'm happy not to post information about such offerings in the future as it confuses you.

Thank you Dr. for the posting yesterday. PLEASE do post again if you see similar offers. I know I've been waiting for this to come up again.

It's a shame that some members feel the need to be so negative.

Who's being negative? The fact that you need to go in-store to buy the card (rather than buying online) is an important detail.

Thanks to Dr Ralph for posting the offer, and for the speedy clarification of what item to buy.

Certain posts from certain members have been particularly snappy recently. I would just ignore and move on. Your post was appreciated.

Are you saying I was being snappy? I was merely attempting to clarify the cards, as Big W cards are now often locked to Big W, and it was not made clear in the original post where these 10% off cards could be purchased.

Does anyone have any experience of MyWineGuy?

They seem to have some decent stuff at okay prices. (sometimes beatable elsewhere, but certainly prices I would probably be happy to pay).

Delivery takes a while (usually despatched the following week) but no complaints on service. Website makes me want to buy things, all very nicely presented.

Have bought a few things from here and apart from a slight delivery lag it's been an ok experience.

Hi mate.

Ditto. I have brought a fair bit from MyWineGuy. It's the posh arm of Cracker Wines, so big brother is not top of my buying list. However, Simon Green (Fine Wine Manager at MWG) does a good job, sourcing some fine wines at decent (but not ridiculous) prices.

Others have quite rightly pointed out delivery issues, and this has been addressed by switching to Australia Post. I'm sure that will help, but the practical reality is the wines appear to be sourced direct from the wineries and are dispatched in one batch after about a week of plugging the deal. It means a 2/3 week lag between order and delivery. It doesn't bother me. As most of the wines I buy from MWG are for the cellar. But it may annoy others used to the super quick turnarounds of rival companies.

I've never had a bad wine from them. And I suspect Simon would oblige if there was a faulty wine.

Hope that helps.

And to put my money where my mouth is - I've just ordered a 6 Pack of the Woodlands Margaret River Reserve Cab Blend 2012 at $38.99 a bottle. Not bad for a 96/97 pointer with such pedigree.

That looks like it would be a fine wine, and a style I like, and one I would generally jump on - but I need to pass on this one due to attending Buzz's Barossa tour at the end of the month.

While reading up about it, I see that the 2013 is $39.00 in a 6 pack direct from Woodlands + $20 delivery outside of Perth metro. The '13 received the same 96 points from Ray Jordan, received +1 with a 95 from Jeremy Oliver but Tyson doesn't seem to have reviewed it yet so it is missing the 97 point score the '12 has.

It's surprising this wine's RRP directly from the producer has dropped from $55 in '12 (quoted by MyWineGuy) to $39 for the current release '13, after Woodlands were awarded "best winemaker" in the Margaret River (if I have understood it correctly) in Ray Jordan's 2016 wine guide

I think myWineGuy is wrong. Halliday quotes Margaret as being $45/bottle in WineCompanion for the 2012, same price as single bottles of the 2013 on the Woodlands website. So, no change 2012 to 2013 as far as I can see.

The comment was a little tongue in cheek and I agree the $55 is a mistake/wrong.

As soon as I started looking, $45/bottle jumped out after seeing MWG were quoting $55.

As MWG are only selling in cases of 6, I quoted the comparative rate charged by the producer when purchasing 6 ;)

The Lion Nathan family and friends wine club ("The Den") have 2010 Blackwell shiraz on offer for $27.50 per bottle (x6) (i.e., same price as 2013 vintage).

I've only heard good things. Should I pull the trigger?

Comments appreciated!

I went through a case of the 2010 half bottles, which I throughly enjoyed.....and restocked at the Den today. Well worth IMO.....if you like big B reds. Some say the acidity is a little high in the 10 but I have not had an issue.

Done! Thanks for telling me what I wanted to hear.

Looks like there are now three cases on their way to the sunshine state!
