Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Firstly, I don't think it is. Price is wrong.

Having said that I can comment on the wine. IF you like your big Barossa Shiraz, then you'll like this. Personally I preferred the Greenock Shiraz as a little more restrained. MSV is actually a fantastic place to visit if in the Barossa. A platter on the patio with a tasting is the way to go. They also have a decent back vintage selection available to buy at decent prices too.

I'm nearly certain it is the Murray Street - didn't look at price, but the Halliday review matches. Good to have your additional thoughts - lots of people here seem to enjoy the BIG Barossa flavours

The price might be wrong but the halliday review is identical.

I didn't even look at the review. I just know what the wine should cost, saw the price mentioned and knew that part wasn't right.

If you like that style, buy. Good price at $27, but not quite the discount it is made out to be.

I'm going to stick my neck out here but if like me, you like your shiraz writ large and bold, and have an eye for a bargain then you would be mad not to grab a dozen of the Luchador Tremblor Shiraz on offer at GWD today with the Valentine Day discount code still applicable, single vineyard, I believe Chris Ringland was the maker of the 2013, and the 2015 vintage was a good'un $98 a dozen delivered but you'll have to be quick! https://www.getwinesdirect.com/red-wines/Luchador-Tremblor-Langhorne-Creek-Shiraz-2015 I've just ordered a dozen myself as it doesn't come around very often and I have very fond memories of the 2013....

edit: just in case you think they only make made-to-order quaffers the 2011 ousted Grant Burge's Filsell 17.8 to 17.0 in the Royal Adelaide Wine Show of that year

That's just DM playing fast and loose with the "usual price" and/or trying to perpetuate the myth that back vintage wines increase in price (2014 current vintage at the winery). The 2012 is available for $55 from the winery (via Wine Cloud, not the winery site) or $41.99 at Wine Box Warehouse..

For once I think I've worked out a "secret" wine deal all on my own, it's the 2013 CABERNET SAUVIGNON Thompson Estate Vineyard being offered by James Dominguez Cellars today down from $50 a bottle to $18.82 Secret Wine #89. This actually does sound like an absolute gift coming from a Halliday 5 Red Star winery, the masked one says: "85% cabernet sauvignon, 5% each of malbec, cabernet franc and merlot. Good hue; this is pure cassis, not blackcurrant per se. This fruit is given another dimension by its oak and silky tannins. Screwcap. 14% alc. Rating 95 to 2033 $50" bloody tempting!

Just opened the 2012 last week and it's very good.
Bought this last Sept from Cellarmasters Halliday Red 6 pack for $120.

Yep, the wine has a good pedigree. Bob Cartwright is the winemaker at Thompson for this wine. He was the head winemaker at Leeuwin Estate for 28 years until 2005 so we're in good hands.

!!

In that case, Roger, drink them as you please. God willing, you'll have many a fine year to enjoy these nice 09s over the coming years as and when you decide to open them ...

Cheers Wozza. :) ATM I'm on a forced abstinence as wine/ beer just doesn't taste like it should to me. Since April last year I have drunk maybe 3 beers and 4 bottles of wine total.:( Given the improvement of my medical condition over the last 4 months :D I am hopeful that in a couple of months time I will no longer need the medication and my taste will return to normal. If that occurs I think I can leave the ACJs for a couple more years - there's plenty of older wine I need to drink slumbering in the fridges. :D

Interesting the 2013 only received 87 at Decanter World Wine Awards. 2012 has more flattering reviews.
Tasting Notes: 2012 Thompson Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, Margaret River, Australia

Not quite as illustrious as the 2012 but not too shabby either ;)
