Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

Unless you can store it properly, my advice is forget it.

I was given a 85 Grange in 1990. Storage hasn't always been ideal (and that is the kicker for whatever the conditions they must be consistent) so I have doubts it will be a good wine when eventually opened.

As a newbie to the NRMA/WOW gift cards and Dan's...

Can they be emailed or do they have to be sent out? I'm looking at a time dependent offer and so would prefer email.

I had lost 2 Hill of Grace 1990 where the corks failed and was told tough cough by Stephen H. As a result it has been a decade of passing on their wines. Penfolds Grange recorking clinic secured my business since then together with Cullen's Diana and Moss Wood. It is probably time to have another look at Hill of Grace seeing I have $1800 of 7.5% off Groupon supplied Big W e cards which combine with Pricepal. It is definitely a maybe.

Wine Direct are running a 30% off sale on a pick your own dozen using the code choose30 at checkout. This 30% is off their regular prices which is already below rrp for all wines, they also offer free delivery for a full dozen. They also run a referral system similar to Vinomofo with $25 credit for both the referrer and the new customer (PM me for a referral). Using the credit with the 30% off gives some really good priced deals (listed price x 0.7 - [25/12]);

Richard Hamilton Shiraz or Cab Sav or GSM 2013 - $8.50 ea
Bird in Hand Sparkling Pinot $13.40 ea
Turkey Flat Butchers Block GSM 2013 - $11.30 ea
Evans and Tate Sem Sav Blanc 2013 $14.80 ea

winedirect.com.au - Great wine, great price, real people

Last day for this deal, the TF Butchers Block is brilliant at $13.30 ($11.30 with referral credit)

Well I decided to lift the embargo on Hill Of Grace after a decade. I used the Groupon plus Pricepal plus the six pack discount to get the $639 sticker shock down to $539.81 a bottle. Every little bit helps. I did use QCU Qantas CC so that was a 7000 point earn a while ago to get those BigW gift cards for Dans from Groupon as that was a 7.5% off deal.

Out of interest did you buy these cellar door or from a reputable retailer, or second hand through an auction? How did you store them and for how long? Were they corked (ie. tainted) or had they lost their seal due to heat etc. I can understand your reluctance to get burnt twice!

Does anyone know how long after purchase one can expect to have a bottle replaced by the vendor. Are you expected to keep a receipt for years?

I bought them from a reputable dealer and I have had them in my cellar.
Stephen H said he was aware of some cork failures but offered nothing. That happened at a Hyatt dinner in Perth where he was the speaker quite a while ago. Have not had cork taint in other of his lesser wines.
I had a corked 1981 Grange replaced by Penfolds at their recorking clinic.....one out of almost 3 dozen.

Over many years this can happen. So Penfolds replaced one and so did Cullen's.
i won't leave these latest 6 linger in the cellar as I am 65 and my sons don't drink red wine.

I still reckon you should be able to confidently store wine the calibre of Hill of Grace for 25 years, given appropriate cellaring. Do they offer them under stelvin now?
