Whoever it was who recommended the $20 Burge Filsell Shiraz 2013 from Danny for a six pack, I have enjoyed one tonight with roast pork. It's a very nice wine, still a little young but not bitey. Not too acidic. very nicely balanced Great deep colour. Nice finish, not too sweet, a little perfumed which is good. I would say a reserved nose, then again I am using the villeroy and boch not the needle(riedel) this time. I really enjoyed the difference from my last, the glenlofty 2012. This is not a comparison as such nor a complaint, it is an acceptance that you respect a bargain if it comes along. And I think this Filsell is also. At this point I think that when you get the glenlofty for under eight bucks and for the quality on offer, it would be hard to find a comparable $7.80 VM wine...anybody have anything close out there.......HOWEVER, I am more than happy with the Filsell for the price. And delivered to the door but not by Paul Kelly unfortunately. For the quality of the Filsell, this is still cheap and I am just glad that these wines are available to be enjoyed.

My local BWS has quite a few multi buy specials. For example 2 x 2012 St Hugo for $70. Not quite as good as $30 from Dans recently but still quite good. There were quite a few buy any 2 for $x specials available.

This I do not understand. Is pepperjack the carlton draught of red wine? So many other (better) choices if people were a tad more adventurous!

That's a harsh assessment. Pepperjack is a good, reliable, well known wine at a fair price.

The Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport is charging $72 per bottle in their AV8 café for Pepperjack. They seem to think it's a big deal

I kind of agree with carwashhair on this one, sure is a well known decent wine, but I'd tend to agree this is an example of retreating to the known. In the current market if all you are asking is good wines at a fair price, your are missing out on all the very good/excellent wines at excellent prices.

Its all relative really. And I dont see this as harsh, personally would agree that Pepperjack is a perfecty ok, even good wine. But when there are so many wines around cheap these days, why would I drink ok/good when I can drink very good/excellent at the same price points?

I would have thought that Penfolds Koonunga Hill, at usually under $10 a bottle, was the Carlton Draught equivalent.

Surely Pepperjack is at least Heineken level!

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly with the good Dr. I always have a few stored around at home, especially if I can get my hands on their cellar released vintages.

I was in New York recently and spotted Koonunga Hill on a winelist for $60(USD)!!!

Yeah, well personally would equate Koonunga Hill with those botlles of beer on sale in the corner because noone wants to buy them.

Given it is usually around $30, I can see why the masses are rushing Dans, maybe picking up something for Father's Day. I picked some up for a friend, used my wish card to pay so effectively got my 2 for about $12 each.
