Dan Murphy's and Other Wine Deals

What happened to the other 3? Don't bounce so well? :p
certainly the dishwasher didn't break em..tougher than most.....same with my old faves, the villeroy and bochs...one outta four left.
as aside, last night I poured the fox Gordon cab/temp into a glass , gave it to a mate and he liked it. I then got the riedel out, pour in another dallop, he tasted it and thru the process didn't actually see me pour it in..i asked what he thought of it...he replied are they the same wine? not bad....and he wasn't pissed either....he preferred the riedel, his wife ,same exercise went the other way..however both said it was a different wine.

burmans, I did this stuff a few months ago with a wine and three glasses.
actually four glasses.....that is why the riedels are now my favourite glass.
they were about to go on ebay 6 months ago after sitting for years.
I am the worlds biggest sceptic and I know it makes a difference.
But I didn't pay sixty bucks for them either, they were free.

anyway, I hope we have enjoyed a lot of free referral wines. four mates have been unsuccessful logging on, so tomorrow I will deal with it.

cheers

Good glassware does make a difference. The classic example being the small wine glasses that they use in the domestic lounges. Good wines can taste quite average out of those glasses.

FWIW, I often use a latte glass from the coffee machine like a hipster (if they let me...).

A hipster bar in a laneway in Melbourne used to serve wine like this which gave me the idea.

So, are you really telling me that until you went to a session that sold the benefit of Riedels you didnt see the benefit!

no, there were no sessions, just three free riedels vinum shiraz when I bought three cheap penfolds a decade ago from the local safeway liquor store. the riedels were etched 'penfolds' for the promotion. I used them a little but changed to some german crystal glasses, very big roundish bowl. they were very good. so the riedels literally sat for ages in the black tins because I am generally a creature of habit. didn't give them a look, not even a taste AGAIN, 8 months ago and they were going on ebay. But I pulled out a nice wine on a Saturday night by myself, and did the tate test with four glasses. While I cannot remember whether the riedel was the best that night for that wine, but since then, I started usuing them and have been very very impressed. It does make a difference to the bouquet which glass you use...undoubtedly. it does make a taste difference as well and my mates yet again confirmed this on sat night with his description of two different wines being tasted. no they weren't.

what I don't like about riedels is the excessive marketing, but I only have them for the reds.....I am going to have more fun with all the new glasses very soon. maybe this Saturday night, before the Angels at the shoppo. Maybe it's a kind of beer nite before we hit the doors after 9.

Hi all. For anyone interested in the Rosemount Estate GSM at half price,

Mystery McLaren Vale GSM 2013

Indeed it is.

Mystery McLaren Vale GSM 2013 from Winestar for $19.99 (free shipping if you buy 12):

Mystery McLaren Vale GSM 2013

Described as:

'The wine is around 60%/30%/10% GSM and 100% McLaren Vale, has the most beautiful lifted perfumed nose of bright fruit then the anticipated spicy notes. Generous bright and dark fruits in the mouth, velvety tannins, cleansing acidity and a long, long finish. This would shame many a Chateauneuf du Pape! '

Appears to be the Rosemount Estate GSM RRP of $40, although often found for around $30 in shops so hardly half price.

From memory this has been on VM earlier this year for a similar price.

I bought a six pack from the fo, and had it in early july. I thought it was alright, but didn't blow the roof off. But after discussion on aff, I think the rhone style of winemaking was the biggest influence. It is milder and less spicy than a maverick for example, and consequently had more finesse. Sometime you know that they need more time so I await anyone elses review. More gold on it than mr t's neck shows this is a great wine.

Some decent whisky prices around at the moment for Fathers Day. Lagavulin for around $80 at Vintage Cellars.

Father's Day is THE time to stock up on whisky/whiskey. Plenty of deals about - OzB has them all documented (for the most part).

Chivas $38 and Yamazaki $71 to mention just 2.

Some lousy brands have great loyalty schemes. Dan's is the reverse. I've yet to find anything useful in it except for rembering my details on the website

The cheap beer 6-packs are worth it for the (zero) joining fee :-) Some of their secret label wine bargains have been excellent value too.

Could not agree more - absolute dud of a loyalty program - and go talk to some key staff in store they are critically aware of customers thoughts. Sheer stupidity.

The MD of WOW liquor is now the MD of WOW Food ... things could change either way.
