Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

I currently hold 2 seperate Amex cards and the DJs card. Application for DJ wasn't recently.

I have a friend who just applied using my link ( with 2 existing non DJ Amex cards) and I just got an email saying I received the referral points.

Doesn't answer your question but I've not heard of any issues with this until I read your post. I'd call again and try calling the platinum or reserve line in the hope that you get an Aussie or American. My money's on you getting the card without cancelling others

OK, I called the Platinum line and spoke to a local in the applications team who confirmed what I was told. I asked if this was a recent change and he said, 'no, it's been like this since the GFC. It is the responsible lender rules. Max 2 credit cards."

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

Update: I received an SMS today requesting I call about my application. I was told (by the Asian subcontinent based call centre) operator and her supervisor that I would have to cancel one of my existing credit cards (Edge or Reserve) in order to proceed with the DJ credit card application.

Should I HUACA or have the rules changed?

Out of curiosity I just called AMEX and made an anonymous inquiry. They said very unambiguously that DJ AMEX card applications are considered separately to other cards and that it would have no impact how many other AMEX cards that you had currently.

This just isn't true. I have had 2 other AMEX besides my DJ AMEX within the last 12 months concurrently. I'm sure others can confirm the same situation.

Well, I have NFI what I am being told then. Maybe I'll try again later tonight and see who I get... Although there are now notes against the application saying I need to close an existing account or cancel the DJ application so I'll probably hit the same wall.

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

Well all I can say is that I got this DJs card late last year and I also got the Platinum version (upgrade from basic) this year all while holding 2 Amex cards.

Other family members ditto but more recent.

So what happens in practice in my case is inconcsistent with what they told you. Something tells me Amex is either tiding up whats out here in the community or actually implementing new rules.

Perhaps it's worth testing the 18month rule as well ;) to see if that actually is implemented. Just not sure if that's worth a mark on the credit report if I'm wrong.

I have never held a DJ card before so I am not excluded by the 18 month rule.

I would give it another go. May help your case if you threaten to cancel all of your existing accounts.

Also, as far as I am aware you are the only person that has reported this problem.

Or you can cancel one card. have the new one approved. then go back (within 2 months) and have the cancelled card reinstated which is how I currently have 3 amex cards!

If you want those other 2 cards I would not support this approach.

Unfortunately I can add another data point to this discussion :( I applied last night (currently holding the edge and explorer) with a recollection from hours spent on here that DJs cards were considered different. Received a card this morning saying it was all sitting there ready to go through, I just need to cancel one of the other cards  I've been given 45 days to think about it...

Thanks for the report.

Things may have changed. But if so, this is a very recent happening and it is inconsistent with what I was told today.

Applied on Monday (Dr Ralph Ref) Just got asked to submit some pay info for anti laundering reasons but no mention of too many cards (Explorer/Edge linked). Will wait and see, if you get a bonus Dr.Ralph let me know.

Will do. And thanks. Appreciated. Will be timely as I'm short 10,000 SPG points for an up coming stay in Boston.

Please let us know if they do mention anything about the 2 card limit at any stage.

Confirmed that I would need to cancel one of my existing cards to sign up for the DJ card. If I had applied for the DJ store card then that would be acceptable as a third card? Not sure what Amex have to do with the store card though.

Thanks for the update. Sorry to hear of the outcome for you.

Seems hit and miss at the moment.

For those that hadn't noticed this card is now up to 50,000 points if you sign up via a referral link (mine below). Definitely a card that I would recommend. Numerous airline and hotel reward partners that you can transfer your points to. Great earning rate too!

Remember that you can still have this card even if you current have or have had another AMEX card in your possession within the last 18 months, except if that was already a David Jones AMEX card.

Note: Offer ends August 31.

Submitted an application using your referral last night and got reference number.

i phoned them this morning as the application form didn't suit my personal circumstances ( deferred benefit scheme super) so I just included annual income.
they had no record of my application and suggested ring after 24 hours or submit new application.

This afternoon I got SMS to call them.

They had a problem as they said I already had DJ store card.
After discussion with first rep I was transferred to Sydney based rep. I advised I cancelled store card Many years ago.
Turns out I was in their system when DJ card taken over by Amex. Even has date of birth as 1900!

I advised I wanted to cancel my application if this store card problem would mean no bonus points.

Was placed on hold a couple of times before being advised the card was approved and I would get the full bonus.

i will be away when card dueto arrive so won't be doing qualifying spend until early Sept.

hopefully points post for both you and me Dr Ralph

Has anyone been able to link their David Jones to an Ascent or Ascent Premium rewards programme?

Yes I would like to know as well .

Re: David Jones American Express - New Offer - 40,000 MR (20,000 SPG) - Annual Fee $9

The terms and. Conditions seem to state that although the applicant will get bonus points if he held other Amex cards the referrer won't . Is that true ? Has anyone experienced it ?

The referrer will receive points if sign up was done via a referral link.
