Josh, John Borghetti (henceforth in all posts "JB") picked this up with cabin crew on his first flight, but it hadn't occured to me that this also applies for Guest Contact Centre staff. Will pass this on. Enjoy your first flight with us in a few weeks - hope you get an E190 - my favourite bird in the fleet to travel on (and my pet - did the business case for purchasing them).

DO NOT start calling me Mr!!!

Thanks crazydave98, good to see I'm on the same wavelength as JB, I'm pretty sure that my flights (DJ1313 HBA-MEL & 1332 MEL-HBA) are both on a 737-700:(

Although that being said, I'm interested to see in how this Live2Air thing works

Cheers,

Josh:p

In regards to use of my christian name or surname I prefer to be given the option EG: "Good morning Mr Ellis may I may you call David ? " adds a personal touch while maintaining professional standards.

Cheers
Dave.

I think that's a good suggestion. Something else we need to do is simply have recorded in member's profiles how they prefer to be addressed, and then if we're really smart that would also come up on the screen at check-in, the Lounge and on the boarding pass. Will follow up during our product redesign.
cheers

The traditional way of addressing people is that you call them Mr, Mrs, Dr, Prof, etc until such time that they indicate to call them otherwise. Some people like the anonimity of being called Mr, Mrs etc; whilst other like the personalisation and friendliness of being able to call each other by their christian names. Each to their own ;)

On flights, as I know the cabin crews' christian names (from their name tags) and if I talk to them on more than one ocassion, I will ask them to call me Lindsay. Therefore, I would have no issue being called Lindsay by flight crew that I know (or remember me from previous flights).

Good to see that JB is picking up on the little things crazydave98....they mean a lot. Nice to see you pushing information to the relevant areas.

I can only say that must be the walking exception then. In the last 5 years I can count the number of time my bag is out before non tagged bags on one hand. But then again a small sample size as I probably only have 25 flights in that time with checked luggage

Sometimes there are a group of early non-tagged bags that come out early - but the tagged bags do come out generally earlier than other bags. I suggest that if you took this benefit away, you would notice it! In any case, my bag has been the first bag out several times.

Maybe taking it another way, why would DJ bother introducing such a thing if it just causes people to fire up if a couple of non-tagged bags come out early in the process.

I am DJ gold, but I'm not giving the finer details on how I managed to achieve it, they are on as need to know basis;)

Enough Said:!: Move Along

From http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/community/open-discussion/flawless-dj-service-23170.html

Thats reassuring to know with my first DJ flight less than a month away, DJ staff have always been nothing but polite to me on the phone and I just hope their service is consistent right across the board.

Frequent Flyer Gold Status without having flown a flight - novel concept, I can see why its on a need to know basis :D

Hi Dave,

The Velocity database already appears to have a Preferred First Name field (that isn't used for anything so far as I can tell); perhaps use that?

+1 awesome suggestion - just the way I like it as well. :)

I must admit that on the few occassions that my bag is out early it is in the first 5. But otherwise it is out with or after the second batch of non tagged luggage. Doesn't matter anymore, since I'm a carry on only person from now on.

I have to agree that I don't see any point in DJ offereing such a premium given how hit andiss it is on QF. But then DJ might actually get it to work.

Thanks for doing a good job on that. My first flight on "new" Virginblue was on one of those and the experience convinced me to come back.

Btw I almost came back after my first flight on virginblue (old version) in 2001. But I realised that I didn't have a chance with any of the crew. ;)

Ahem. Lucky for you. Most of the crew would have been very under-age in 1991 and you could have got yourself into a lot of trouble!

Ohh I thought I wasn't that old. Should be 2001. Very funny

I have no idea how you've even made this connection. 2 different flights with 2 different crew. You get this from the references to old and new virgin. I could have been more clear. But IMO I had 2 first flights on virgin due to the significant changes that have occured between 1991 and 2008. Maybe that is a bit of a stretch and I certainly could have been clearer on that point. But still I'm not sure how you could conclude that the crew from the E190 flight that had to have happened in this century would have been crewing the 1991 flight at age

Sorry, but it was a joke on the fact the airline didn't exist in 1991. I think you're about 10 years premature with your date there!

It's great that JB has already picked up on the little things that need improvement when he has flown, such as the first name basis thing. I feel it is far to casual to be professional.

I'd like to see VB introduce a pre-recorded safety demo onboard...video or not, I think it'd be an improvement to atleast have the audio pre-recorded, and crew still demonstrate the features as normal. I think the way in which the demo is presented at the beginning of the flight is critical to the impression that's created early on. Infact on the Boeing, I believe the audio is already loaded as part of the boarding music system, and has been for nearly 2 years now...dont know why its not used...crazydave can yu shed any light?

Also saw an interesting artle in the Financial Review on Tuesday about the likely hood that JB will change the uniforms, according to 'spies at HQ'

I personally can't wait for the 'new' VB to be revealed !

I can confirm that we're already planning on changing the service standard across cabin, ground and Guest Contact Centre to use of surname as the default for Guests with the ability to select first name if they believe it's more appropriate. This was due to come into play from July 1, but John has asked for this to occur sooner - so this will happen over the next week or 2.

Shouldn't that be 'Mr Borghetti has asked for this to occur sooner'?
