Unless its Flying Club Gold and not Velocity Gold, in which case the Gold vanishes in two weeks

No the signature line at the bottom says VS-Red.

I am going to guess Amex points for Status swap from recently but I think that took 50000 points so he must have a hefty amex bill.

Naaah, crazydave98 should be on first name terms with JB ;)
Yes, Mr Wilson, that may be true. However, will Mr 98, crazy as he may be, be addressed by his company CEO as crazydave or as Mr 98 when sharing a coffee in the lunch room?

Could you please explain to me how one under 18 could achieve an AMEX card?

Josh:p

I see, never even knew that you could do that, so no again

Anyways we are a bit OT now, so back to the 'Dear John's'

Deflector shields to full Scotty ;)

An AFF thread going off topic - another novel idea

I used to have a lovely time with my father's amex when I was Josh's age, although he didn't agree with me what an emergency was - 'dad, of course the Sportsgirl sale is an emergency':)

Likewise with my mums amex.

Now she has a card linked to my account so I guess it has come full circle.:(

Further dragging this thread off topic, I love my Platinum Sub card ;)

I use it to pay for parking, while my sister uses hers at the movies :p

Well, i got called "Mr" for the first time by DJ crew last night. I assume this is because JB has sent the message down from on high and not because i've just requalified as Gold for another year.

Maybe it's a generational thing but i find it kinda wrong and unnecessary.

Received a rather stilted "Welcome back, Mr Gremlin" on Friday afternoon. FA was telling me that they've been told to do so. She seemed a bit flustered by it and said it was hard to change habits overnight.

I don't mind it, but I probably prefer first name basis. Having said that, I think it presents a more professional image so overall it's a step towards an appropriate repositioning of the brand...

Hi all,
This is my first post here! I have been watching this thread with interest since it started. Yesterday I had a need to travel for business reasons, and thought it about time I gave Virgin Blue a go, after hearing about it's push to attract business passengers etc.
Maybe it was too soon to expect any changes with the VB experience, but here is a quick rundown of my experience yesterday, an early afternoon BNE SYD sector.

  • Kiosk check in quick and easy
  • Ground staff that scanned my boarding pass used my first name. I was dressed in a suit as travelling for business, so would of expected and preferred a Mr xx_
  • Flight Attendant at boarding door also used my first name when checking my boarding pass. Obviously the new apparently directive to use the passengers surname hasn't gotten through yet, which is a shame.
  • Seated in rear half of aircraft. Plane was dirty, plastic cups under the seat infront, and rubbish still in my seatpocket. Also window was extremely smeared with greasy finger marks. There was also a terrible smell about, almost like dirty nappy, although no children around.
  • Cabin was extremely hectic during boarding, with people not following the directions of who should board front or rear. Front boarding only seems much more effective IMO, however letting everyone off through both doors is quick. Overhead lockers full early, and lots of stressed out passengers, mainly in suits, trying to find room.
  • Male Flight Attendant making the PA's spoke to us on the PA like we were at the circus...I think they need to be taught how to make a PA so it's not so intrusive. Also all the PA's began with "Ladies & Gentlemen, Girls & Boys..." Children generally don't listen to the information in the PA's, their parents do...not to mention there were no children onboard rather an aircraft full of suits. Ditch the "Girls & Boys"...seems petty but I find it very irritating.
  • Used the IFE while it was free...although BIG thumbs down to the uncomfortable headsets provided...the earplug type...they are actually too big for the ear, very uncomfortable, kept falling out whenever I moved, and bad sound quality. Over ear ones would be a much better suggestion.
  • All the Cabin Lights stayed on BRIGHT the entire flight - it was just really uncomfortable in such bright lighting.
  • After landing PA again was irritating, and contained about 30 seconds about the football that night, which got no response from the cabin. As we disembarked through front door only, ground staff were standing in the front galley and aerobridge with blue streamers all over themselves and blue zinc all over their faces. Its great that they are so passionate about football, but is it really the place to do it?
I booked a QF flight back that evening, which was around $30 cheaper then the similar timed DJ flight. Was welcomed aboard using surname, served a hot dinner, wine and in general the professionalism was outstanding in all areas.

I guess it seems like all I wanted to do was bag Virgin Blue out...I don't, I just wish they would correct some of these things to make their experience far more enjoyable...I think they would get a lot more of the corporate passeners onboard that they want!

CrazyDave I noted you work for Virgin Blue and are relaying these messages to help make a difference - please add mine to the list! I will give it a little while and hope that things can get better at VB before I try again.

Cheers,

AirlineGuy,

Thank you for your comments and sorry to hear that your first experience with us was not up to expectations. Please give us another go in a few months when we have some of the kinks ironed out. JB is particularly attentive to details such as aircraft cleanliness, addressing by title and professionalism of PAs and they will get sorted.

cheers

CrazyDave98,

2 Questions;

1) Any news about Virgin blue joining Star Alliance?

2) Will V Australia launch a domestic carrier to rival QF, with J and whY seating offered?

Hi Dave and Mr Borghetti

I'm a big DJ fan and, putting my money where my mouth was, I became a (small) Virgin Blue shareholder.

I'm excited about the growth prospects of the airline, but there is always room for improvement. These are the things I've noticed.

As I think you've pointed out, it'll be important to boost corporate business. I work in the Commonwealth Public Service, so I have a bit of an idea about people's travel habits in a well-traveled department. The problem is that people are locked into their Qantas Club membership and their status. I have found though that once people discover how great the Lounge is compared to the Qantas Club, they will always prefer it. The food selection, the always-there Barrista with great coffee, the space, they're are all great positives. Another problem is the travel agent our department uses doesn't always offer a Virgin Blue quote, and people have no idea that V Australia is a full-service airline. Plenty don't know that it exists.

I don't have a particular problem with being called by my first name, so won't comment on that. I have found that professionalism and the inflight experience on ex-Canberra flights are great.

Cleanliness is indeed important. Most noticeable are dirty marks around the air vents and crumbs in the seats.

The self check in kiosks can be a little slow at times.

It is disappointing to see premium economy so empty. I think it would be great to upgrade the highest status Velocity members on flights where possible to allow them to try the Lounge experience. I imagine you have some plans to improve Premium Economy, but won't go into it.

You need to sell the benefits of flying Virgin Blue over Qantas. For example, everything seems easy with Virgin - it's hard to put a finger on why, but it just seems easy. The food is so much better - yes you have to pay, but I would much rather pay for a a great Muesli and Snowy Mountain cookie than the Qantas option of a thawed out muffin full of preservatives for free.

More looking guests in the eyes and engaging with guests rather than just chatting with the fellow flight attendant while serving food would make a big difference.

I'm keen to fly V Australia. But I think you need to be careful that people get the Rockstar treatment you promise. A friend of mine who flew to Nadi in January sent me this review:

So thought i would send you a quick review of V Australia. Well on the plus side the funky lights inside the cabin were pretty cool and turned colour when we were landing. They also had a cartoon safety demonstration which was more entertaining than the cabin crew version. The seats and cabin was roomy and there was a bar at the front but for business and first class. On the downside the food was terrible, service (the worst service i have encountered)...they skipped my row for coffee and tea on both legs of the trip. The service was painfully slow and while the entertainment was great the staff kept making annoying announcements all the time which was frustrating. All in all...would I fly them again? Depends if it was cheap enough. I wouldn't pay extra for it than a normal virgin blue flight considering the short distance to many of the destinations.

Of course this was when the route had just started, so I'm sure things have improved. And I've heard some great reviews, although another friend did this route last month and reckons she got food poisoning. She posted on her Facebook "just returned from Fiji...with food poisoning- thanks V Australia". That's not good publicity. Maybe it wasn't the airline food at all, but you need to make the food so good and so fresh that she would rule it out.

A shareholder discount would be much appreciated!

Hope this is helpful in some way.

I disagree about the food. On the Perth runs, there never seems to be enough hot meals. They have to be making some sort of profit (even a small one) on each meal, so why can't they cater accordingly? Its frustrating jumping on a flight straight after work, to be left with a choice of a Mars Bar or a Cup of noodles.

Even though I'm a self funded regular traveler, I don't even bother doing a price check with DJ anymore (I used to). At least with QF I know I'll get a meal (nothing special but it'll fill me up), a Wine/Beer and and Icecream (easily pleased). And I normally travel on the A330, so theres free IFE. Perhaps that's something DJ could flick to "free mode" on the longer flights?

I'm happy to take your advice on this, as I've never even been to Perth! All my flying is on the east coast.
