Re: 2 x SC for all! (Book by 6th Mar, Travel Mar 17-Feb 19, '18)

I'm trying to get my head around the voucher idea, since I have never used one before.

We are in the process of planning the next family holiday, me, Mrs_O and Master_O. Do I need to buy a 3 person voucher, today, for a nominal $50 per person which I can then redeem for the flights once we have confirmed dates?

Assuming the dates we fly are within the timescale for this offer, we will receive the DSCs?
Also interested in this. Looks like from what I've read previously people have said that it would be a gamble but it worked in the past? So if you bought vouchers today and the say booked in a months time would you get the double SC offer?

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

:( so sad that I made my SYD-LHR J return trip a few weeks before DSC :(

Is it worth cancelling and rebooking?

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

Is it worth cancelling and rebooking?

Fares have gone up $500, plus the cancellation fee, makes it hard for me to justify it. I've definitely thought a lot about it - even as far as cancelling it onto a voucher, only to realise that the credit gets put onto the same PNR so I still wouldnt have been eligible for the DSC, so I called up and begged them to reinstate my flight...

If I could call up and pay the 'change fee' however to move the flight to a new PNR to make me eligible for DSC... I could do that :)

Sounds like it would be a lot better value to book a status run.

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

Righto, I'm looking at MEL-BNE-HKG return in J, which will be 720 with DSC, which would get me to exactly 1400.... Best pricing seems to be around $3594ish - is this as low as I can expect for a Qantas J flight to HKG?

Very reasonable. Travel twice per year to HKG from MEL and even a Sale Fare would be approx - $3300.00 at best.
I do wonder how much QF would sell for when VA make their HKG flights official.
$3600 is good IMO. I have paid $4500.00 on the odd occasion

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

Thanks, I note that going via BNE (from MEL) doesn't really add much extra cost at all, so practically a free domestic J flight! :D (what's that saying here, why go direct when you can connect!)

Re: Double status credits 2/3/17 - 6/3/17

Put in a call to QF ah hour ago and utilised the call back system (44-58 mins expected time). Perfectly in the middle, it rang me back and now chatting to Zoe from the Premium Desk in NZ. She confirmed there had been system issues with Bus Reward booking, but it has been escalated to IT and they advised the CSR team that it was fixed this morning. Well it's not for me :(. She is now trying to see if they can make the booking for me.

Update: Now with Business Rewards (well Corp Sales to be exact) CSR. He is aware of issue but there is nothing he can do and was told by 3 different people that Business Rewards are the people to help me. Now PASSED back to Business Rewards who categorically advise that their role is the onboarding of new account and maintenance of existing accounts so now she is putting me onto Res.

What a ride. All this for DSC and to get an A332 PER/SYD and use points to upgrade. Should have booked with VA....:o

Well you do miss out on accessing the excellent FLounge in MEL (if already hold WP or above status) but visiting the new lounge in BNE could be interesting for a change.

If I was going to HKG I would probably book MEL-HKG-BNE-MEL.

Quite good value for those based in ADL and to a lesser extent SYD and PER.

For those based in MEL there are better options albeit more time consuming if just looking for a run.

Ahem,,,few posters have mentioned challenge in getting SCs ex-Syd. I could do with 885 SCs to reach platinum for the first time. A weekend run earning 450 SCs (900 with double offer) will get me over the line. OR, 50 SCs (100 with double offer) to retain gold.

Suggestions appreciated.

anyone think the below thing will have any issue when i arrive in CHC?
Will i have sufficient time to get back?
Will custom question me?
What if the flight into CHC is delayed?

1 QF 465D 01APR 6 SYDMEL*HK1 1900 2035
2 QF 133D 01APR 6 MELCHC*HK1 2345 0410 02APR 7
3 QF 134D 02APR 7 CHCBNE*HK1 0615 0810
4 QF 525D 02APR 7 BNESYD*HK1 1205 1340

total $1717 for DSC of 480. this makes $3.58/SC

i probably going to pay this by points, do you guys recon this is better off by paying cash?

Final update: Gave up, used my TA TravelGuru to make the booking. Points upgrades in place - BNE/SYD confirmed. The only thing I am happy about is the DSC ;)

er you do not have to enter NZ to do this, just make it a international connection thus NZ Border passing is not required.

It's likely the inbound 133 turns to the 134 out of CHC (but maybe not) it's probably not going to be much of an issue IMHO.

Customs might wonder what you're doing in NZ for all of 2 hours and 5 minutes, however, as you are technically "Transitting" you might not even need to leave the terminal or clear customs if you are able to have Qantas issue your tickets for the entire journey.

See the Christchurch Airport website for more information

Assuming you booked the entire journey on the same PNR, if the flight into CHC is delayed I presume QF would accommodate you onto another flight to get you back to SYD. In this event you would just have to ask for your original routed credits (if they rebook you onto CHC-SYD direct.

450SC in a weekend? phew that's a fair call IMHO. You'd be looking at a fair spend I reckon.

SYD-LAX in F under the current sale r/t would do it easily of course and SYD-DFW in the J one but that would take the WHOLE weekend

MEL-SYD-SFO r/t would get 440SC pre DSC in J with the current sale.

a r/t to DXB would also probably do it. 2 weekends in say Singapore/DPS/CGK could also get you there.

One wonders if the value of the effort to attain WP is worth the effort for you tbh.
