I am staying in The Oaks on Palmer on one and The Chifley on the other :-)

Was going to try the Mercure, but it seemed a bit of a walk away from the interesting bits lol

Like the Oaks. The new Rib joint nearby isn't bad either.

I'll be having lunch on QF662 on the 17th. Are you flying back the same day?

Last time I was in TSV I found a nice little Thai place for lunch, so that will be my plan again. Not staying this time; by the time you arrive I will be well on the way home.

I'm currently at the HI ... and would NOT recommend it unless, of course, you have status with IHG ;) Where is the Hilton when you need 'em??

I'm at Rydges on the 4th, $89 incl. breakfast. I'm staying at Holiday Inn for the first time 17th-19th Jan on a PP BOGOF.

Was thinking the Holiday Inn, not sure if my platinum will die by then. Probably. I am keen for Accor nights. But could do Rydges. ummmm

edit: Rydges want $129….

I flew a number of flights in early & mid Nov on the 1.5x SC offer and no BONUS SC appear in my activity statement yet.

I'd be interested to hear what they say if you do call, but it might just be something along the lines of "wait the full six weeks".

That said, I made a few assumptions with my recent flurry of planning that I just realised break down if I have to wait six weeks.

My plans are in a similar boat.

Yeah, time to give up?

I'd rather have too many offers than too few, but I guess some people are never happy

All I said was it is too difficult to keep up. Didnt say anything about happiness or giving up.

I love seeing you guys doing your best to keep Qantas afloat. Just make sure they are around for a few more years though so I can still enjoy spending all my hard earned points.

Tried looking for JASA flights ADL-BNE-TSV in end Dec - mid Jan and it seemed to be showing 72000 points return. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I agree that the number of offers by QF is confusing, I am finding it hard to keep up. By the time you understand some of the offers and are ready to book they have expired.
The offers do add to the fun of flying, but at this time of year with all these EDR, Flybuys, various hotel deals, QF etc offers I am more than a little dizzy... more champagne anyone?

I am no expert but that sounds about right. I would expect 36000 each way in J. (or U class)

I got lucky as it's gone up. The price I quoted is for a Rydges Priority Guest member, free to join and get 10% off, which makes the current rate $116.

The thing you are doing wrong is not spending 100s of hours studying this forum ;).

The minimum for an Anyseat J return for that route is indeed 48,000 points which is why it is so attractive, especially when it reaps 480 SCs.

Here is your homework:

That's the classic award price. If you call up for an any seat award in the U fare class, the minimum points cost is lower.

$129 was the priority guest price.

That's what it looks like when you search, equates to 48k +$363 when you get your xASA.

Oh I thought you hated people cheating their way to platinum with double sc offers.

Why would I hate people for trying to do the best for themselves?

Well you have certainly made your negative feelings known about these things in the past! Now you say you love people giving Qantas money... you can't keep up with Qantas and I can't keep up with your ever changing opinions.

I have never said anything about people trying to achieve the best possible result for themselves.

By the way I still do not think all these offers are a good idea (reminds of a headless chook running around for 5 minutes before it is all over) as it cheapens status. You do not see it that way. We are not going to agree. But that is just my opinion and it is not going to change anything.

Happy to report I've used my DSC offer and booked a JASA SYD-BNE-TSV rtn for January. CSA was a bit unsure about why I'd phoned to book it (I explained the rules that they had to be phoned in after June this year...) and she went away to talk to some of her colleagues to make sure she booked it correctly. I think she was trying to work out why I wasnt doing a cheaper deal for cash or something. Anyway, it was 48kpts plus some cash , she waived the phone booking fee.
Still not entirely sure I'll get the 400SC (as I'm new to the booking-mileage-run game) that I should be getting and which I need for Platinum, but we'll see in January.. any gotchas I should be looking for on the itinerary?

Thanks
Al
