I would like an answer to this very question as the registration page says "Once registered, you can make multiple bookings..." yet the T&C's say " This offer is valid when you register and make a new eligible flight booking between..." which doesn't specifically say you need to register first. Do T&C's trump the other blurb?

My wife registered about half an hour after I booked some flights and is preparing for an argument with QF on this.

Normally I'd take anyone's point of view when it comes to Qantas T&Cs, as they are often badly/ambiguously worded, but here I think its pretty clear. From my invite e-mail:

Simply register and then make your bookings between 1 February and 5 February 2018, for travel from 12 February 2018 to 20 January 2019. You can enjoy this offer on an unlimited number of eligible flights booked during this promotion.

I think the intent is pretty clear, and its consistent with just about every other 'register and book' type promotion.

I purchased a couple of gift vouchers. Did a screenshot of registration. Went back to screen shot T&C and was confused by it saying you need to book and redeem vouchers during promo period for eligible flight meaning this probably won’t work. Thought it was only emails that excluded them but it’s on main T&C. On phone so may have missed 10 pages or so relating to this

OK...after a mad flurry of phone calls this am, I have booked today a work trip Syd-Lhr rtn in QF J in November (membership year end 31st Oct) which will net 1120 SCs during this promo so essentially securing QF WP status til 31/10/2020 !! Unfortunately, as the QF sale fare is $1200 more expensive than the cheapest (Etihad- BFOD rules :( ), I will have to pay the difference of $1200 ( but tax deductible!). So overall happy with the result

They appeare to have changed the T&C on Feb 2nd (IIRC) which is sneaky.

the big question is on the interpretation of this addition.

Is it "redeem gift vouchers within the promotion period" to get DSC *or* redeem vouchers within the "promotion booking period" to get DSC?

Where "promtion period" is Feb 12-Jan 20, 19 and "promotion booking period" is Feb 1-5, 2018.

*OR*

is it just another way of saying if you have a voucher that can be used PAST Jan 20, 2019 and book flights past that date, they will not be eligible for DSC(which is already covered earlier under flight changes or booked outside the promotion period).

I think the last one is not what they intend, since it's already covered.

So the $50 question is do they MEAN (and will it be processed this way) if you book flights(ie: redeem voucher) after Feb 5, using vouchers purchased between Feb 1-5 for flights between Feb 12, 2018 and Jan 20, 2019 that it will NOT earn DSC?

(fight club died a long time ago imho)

Here is the T&Cs change:

It was:

See Airline Earning Tables for details. Bonus Status Credits earned from this offer do not count towards Loyalty Bonus or Platinum One Loyalty Bonus earn requirements.

It's now:
See Airline Earning Tables for details. Flight gift vouchers purchased but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking during the promotion period will not earn double Status Credits. Bonus Status Credits earned from this offer do not count towards Loyalty Bonus or Platinum One Loyalty Bonus earn requirements.

Ok so the promotion period is until January 2019 I would take that as so as long as they are purchased by end of today and redeemed by mid January being the promotion period then they should still earn DSC surely.

Further more it could be argued that the vouchers were bought under the original terms and conditions of the offer and therefore should still be eligible for DSC regardless of what changes they make.

This offer is valid when you register and make a new eligible flight booking between 12.01am (AEDT) 1 February 2018 and 11.59pm (AEDT) 5 February 2018 and travel between 12 February 2018 and 20 January 2019.

It's all how you interpret the wording. QF must have the same person writing these T&C's for the past few years as they are always so ambigious in these things.

The problem is, seeking clarificiation only emphasises the situation to QF.....

Pretty poor form changing the T&Cs after the promo has started...

I have a screenshot of the old T&Cs but I probably won't bother with vouchers this time around anyway. I've already booked enough QF travel over the past 4 days to requalify for SG next year without using them.

I do think the topic of gift vouchers has been discussed a little too much here... that can't have helped...

A friend said to me today - he reckons the reason email confirmations are not sent out is so the airline can tweak the T&C on the fly.

Note also that the email confirmation does not have any T&C printed in it - just a link which takes you to the “current” T&C.

I’m sure people have registered on the basis of different versions of T&C

IMHO there is no point trying to get clarification from QF. They will just give the official answer that DSCs won't be earned, and it only raises red flags if lots of people call to ask the same question.

If the trick still works, then it works. If not, then it doesn't. Personally I won't be relying on vouchers this time around but if they do work, we'll find out soon enough.

I tend to agree. Works or not won't make much difference to me personally.. but it annoys me the poor wording
and that QF changed T&C mid promotion is really poor IMHO. Plus yes I noticed the confirmation email just had a link to the page too which again means the goal posts can be moved.

btw for those who didn't get email confirmations I continue to believe the difference is if one clicked the email link to register, or did it via the webpage (which I did) who got the email.

Couldn’t agree more. Lots of people seeking clarification from QF would draw attention to the issue. Then it can only go downhill from there.

Edit: And the Call Centre response would be worth nothing anyway.

I tend to agree.

Just as MASAS were discussed at great length & then subsequently dropped due to too much attention drawn to them publicly , it appears very likely that Vouchers will go the same way either this time around or at the next DSC promotion.

Given that QF can't seem to manage to interpret their own T&Cs, I don't know why everyone is getting so worked up.

Just have a look at some of the utter garbage their Social Media team are posting about the DSC offer. At one stage they were telling people it was a 50% bonus, and I've also seen them "confirm" that DSC don't count towards P1.

Let’s go here:

Buying a comfort (extra for space) Y seat will earn DSC during promo period based on previous DSC promos

Price = price of 2 seats plus price of 1 taxes and surcharges.
.
So can get DSC from equivalent of 2 flights but only have to fly once and cost less than 2 Y seats

And as per above don’t go asking 131313

And in that one phrase, the QF marketing folk will have their ammunition when senior management ask if offering DSCs are worth it - ie people will pay more to fly QF if there's a non-monetary reward in it for them.

EDIT: Just bought another voucher - website now says expiry 22 Jan 2019, email says 5 Feb 2019 - so sometime between 1043h and 1520h, the validity increased by one day. I'll need to use one voucher as my forthcoming EU trip will only have 3 squiggle flights (damn you, QF10 via PER!), so will need to fly somewhere to obtain my fourth.
