Double Status Credits to HKG

Red Roo,

Can you please confirm if this double SC bonus only applies for flights from Australia to HKG, or if it also works for flights from HKG to Australia?

Also, I'm assuming that it will count if the OZ-HKG leg is the start of a longer journey, but it would be nice to confirm.

Does anyone have any advice from past experience on what to do with my already booked and paid for JASA at the end of December? Can I cancel and re-book the same flight to qualify for the double SCs?

I don't have experience with it, but I imagine after you cancelled you would then have to re-purchase by paying (with points) whatever the going rate was for a JASA at the time of cancellation. This may not be what you originally 'paid' (I suppose it could be less rather than more, but unlikely I would think). It should be easy enough to check before cancelling. Oh, and this is speculation on my part, not having ever cancelled an ASA before.

Do you think this double sc offer is only for those who have booked from today (after registering first)?
I dont think the t+c are clear on that.

I got the e-mail too. :)

Seems pretty clear-cut?

"Recipients of this email will be eligible for this double Status credits offer by firstly registering via the above registration link in the main text area of this email and then booking and travelling between 17 November 2011 and 17 May 2012 on an eligible Qantas International flight between Australia and Hong Kong..."

Cheers,
- Febs.

Looking to book to HKG and PVG next April so this would have been perfect. Too bad I didn't get the offer...

Too bad I didn't get the offer...

If they were smart they would be targeting members who have recently been flying CX, particularly J or F. Not that I haven't already got a booking with QF there either. But surely they lose a lot of market to CX on their HKG routes.

Received offer, always go CX CNS/HKG/CNS every year in April only 7hour direct flight, so going with Q have to go via BNE, make it about 12 hour with transit, but double status probably points worth it. Pity wife didn't receive it she is silver, this would near get her to SG. Then Hainan Airlines worth a look into Shenzhen in Y or J much cheaper and only extra hour to HKG by bus or train.

I was planning to ask a question of targeted members along these lines when I saw your post!

I was going to ask whether those targeted had recently flown CX to HKG (not necessarily in J) and whether those not targeted had not done so.

I was targeted, and I did fly CX in Y to HKG in October.

It's a great offer for those that got it and a good opportunity to take a JASA.

So I've booked a JASA for next year: MEL-BNE-HKG-BNE-MEL for $577.35 + 120,000 points (+$30.00 credit card fee).

So for the 4 sectors: MEL-BNE + BNE-HKG + HKG-BNE + BNE-MEL
With the offer, this will earn: 60 + 120x2 + 120x2 + 60 = 600 Status Credits.
As a WP, it also earns: 2,148 + 10,788 + 10,788 + 2,148 = 25,872 + 8,000 (loyalty bonus) = 33,872 points.

So for $607.35 and 86,128 points (nett) I get a MEL-HKG return in J class and 600 status credits. Nice!

And if the trip is taken before 23rd December, it would also earn a WP double points - so up to: 2,148 + 10,788 + 10,788 + 2,148 = 25,872 x 2 = 51,744 + 8,000 (loyalty bonus) = 59,744 points. Even nicer!

I got the offer obviously. Flew CX via HKG in J early Oct.

Their service and new J product is amazing BTW. Every single HKG trip I have taken prior to that has been with QF.

My next one will be with QF again. Only because they started running the A380 though.

I got the offer, and have just flown QF PER-HKG, but my flights HKG-ICN were in Cathay J.
Great timing, because I'm going back to HKG in Jan (already booked unfortunately) and also in March for work. Might think about doing a JASA via Sydney. This offer is too good to waste!

Good luck, how does 240K points, each way, grab you??

It was a good plan though ...

Possible on several dates. For 120,000 points + $577.35. And remember that JASA availability is quite dynamic.

I wonder if it had anything to do with an online survey that was sent around recently from Qantas.

I did state that I flew 2x to HK via CX this year.

Thanks for all your questions on the Hong Kong Double Status credit offer. I hope this post clarifies most of the general queries:
- The offer covers eligible flights between Australia and Hong Kong – that is both directions
- Flights must have a QF flight number on your ticket and be a flight on which Status credits are normally earned
- The offer is available for flights booked and travelled between 17 November 2011 and 17 May 2012. Bookings and travel outside this period will not be eligible
- Members must register between 17 November 2011 and 17 May 2012, this can be after the booking
- The offer is only available to those members who received the email
- Refer to email for full terms

If you have any other queries please post or PM me:).

Cheers,
Red Roo

If you have a connecting domestic flight as part of the booking does that get the double status credits as well?
e.g. If you book MEL-xBNE-HKG do you get the status credits for just the segment to Hong Kong or does MEL-BNE get it as well?

Thanks Red Roo :)

You might want to tell the guys in the Platinum call centere, I just got off the phone (should have checked here first) and they weren't 100% certain (although they put a note on my file to say I'd been told that I would get the points both ways, excellent service as always).

Possible on several dates

Indeed it is.

I think I just booked the SC run of a lifetime. 520 SCs (potentially 560 if the domestic connection flight also gets double) for a cost of 18,000 FF points and $540 :)

Heading out next Thursday at 11pm, arrive 6am Friday, head into town for lunch then back to check out the new lounge before a 8pm departure and arrive back into Brisbane 10am Saturday morning :)
