I would suggest against doing that, it worked last year. But I did it for some mid-year vouchers and adding the number completely screwed things up. I had to ring in, the phone operator had to put me on hold for about 10 minutes to work out the problem with supervisor help. Basically they had to remove my number from a couple of places, according to the phone agent. Once done the vouchers worked again.

This is a real pain as adding the number made tracking vouchers very easy.

I agree. The same happened to me. I thought I was being clever by adding my QFF number so that it would appear in My Bookings list, but it screwed up trying to use them. I just keep a list of them on my spreadsheet now and add the number when I'm booking.
FWIW, I never had an issue doing this - oh well, maybe avoid it if you have any concerns.

It worked for a long time. But must have stopped working at some stage. At a guess the issue I experienced was about 4 months ago.

3 purchases done, now to see if the points post.

Was an idiot last night, bought $200 worth of Myer gift cards and forgot to split it.

Back to Big W this morning for another $50 wishcard.

Sorry to be slightly dim on this topic.

What's the story / benefit of splitting the bills again ?

I bought $750 worth of Myer cards last week - on one bill !

Could I have done differently ?

Eager to learn !

DId you get the 10% bonus thats on offer this week?

Man, I think we may be speaking in different tongues here !

May I kindly ask ... what bonus ?

Are we on the same page ?

I use Citi Select VISA.

I am not aware of any bonus(es) this week from SELECT.

Sorry, I must be off on a tangent to L Wilson somehow.

Thanks again

Myer is offering a $50 gift card for every $500 bought at present.

Oh, thanks

I am not aware of that.

Too late now - for me, anyway.

I bought my gift cards some 10 days ago - without any bonuses !

But, Lindsay Wilson was talking about bill splitting.

Presumably, he referred to multiples of $500 ?

Thanks, markis10

If we buy $500 worth of gift travel vouchers get 5000 points, but can pay $182.50 and buy QFF 5000 points what are we missing?

If you think you are going to spend at least $500 on travel with Qantas in the next twelve months then it's effectively 5000 points for having $500 tied up in vouchers until you use them.

My take is that if you plan to have some QF travel in 2013-2014, then instead of paying for the tickets in cash (CC), you might as well buy some travel vouchers now.

True, you lose out on some economic benefits of your $$$ working its magic in the stock market / ING online saver account etc...

The benefits in return is that you get 5000 QFF points (which as you pointed out is worth $182.50).

Now, that is an instant return of 36.5% on your investment of $500.

I am waiting for my Macq Visa Platinum card to arrive - hopefully before 27th Dec - so that I can get 2 QFF points per dollars spend - in addition to the QF point bonus.

If not, I will use Citi Select with points going to KF instead.

Have I sum it up right for you yet ?

Bit the bullet and bought 2x$500 as the Mr and I will need tickets home from our RGN run (whether from RGN or Canada remains to be seen!). Despite having read the whole thread, didn't really think about travel insurance, and used a different credit card than what I booked our outbound tickets with. Oops. Got carried away with having no AMEX surcharge!

Might be time to look at that annual policy. Hmm.

Unfortunately, you can only use the gift vouchers for travel originating in Australia.

I was meant to split the transaction into 2 x $100, as there is a concurrent Amex promo for 3 x $50 transactions at one of 6 stores (including Myer) gets 3K Membership Rewards points. Sorry to confuse matters, I just realised I posted in the wrong thread :(

This is a great way for Qantas to maximise their free cash. Coys love gift voucher, there is a fair percentage that dont get used.

Double oops.

Oh well, they'll get used in 2 years! No worries about that.

Bought a couple of vouchers this morning.
Never received the emails, but did just get 2 emails reminding me that since I'm flying to the USA soon, I need to add extra info to my booking.
WTF? I don't have any bookings to the USA. Think something screwy is going on at Qantas.

They are very slow at issuing these. Follow it up with a phone call if not through in 24 hours

Found this in the voucher conditions:

If not used within the 12 month validity period, the voucher value will be forfeited unless the original fare permits a refund.

So if you buy a refundable ticket that begins after the expiry date and you get a refund before the flight, what will the new expiry date be?
