I wonder if you guys and gals that buy giftcards, spend more they usually would spend? Just wondering, because studies on people with Credit Cards show they spend more? Discuss?

It's ok I was just in the office when a couple of customers needed some for Christmas and neither had the $8k minimum by themselves. I took the opportunity this month to pick up a few Qantas points by paying.
There are a couple of problems with Gift Cards.
There is an expiry date so you can pay out real money and about a year later they can expire unused.
If your wallet gets swiped I would doubt that you would get these cash cards back unless you were lucky enough to have recorded the full numbers so that the card could get cancelled and replaced. I am pretty sure gift card recipients just try spending the cash unless they have a mantelpiece at home to let it grow old and have it expire.
Coles Gift Cards do not work on petrol nor alcohol at most of their divisions so unless you go to their supermarkets don't bother buying them. My in laws only shop at Coles so I get them Coles Gift Cards to use.

The Coles Myer branded ones don't have the restrictions re petrol and alcohol, just like the Wish cards.

Thanks Markis10 I had ignored those because we don't go to Myer. You have upgraded my knowledge.

General offer or targetted offer?

I had that free Berri Juice offer last week. Frankly can't drink it.

Today I got an email: "Free ‘be’ by Berri 350ml". Looks like I'm a product tester now -_-

I'm assuming quite targeted given we do purchase Juice often, but usually none of this cough.

Receipt looks like

Targeted email over night....usual stuff can only use once, only for xx_ card No, one week to redeem - not dependant on any other purchase.

Just got an email from Coles; click here to activate triple points Friday-Sunday. Woolworths better match! They had triple points last year on the weekend upcoming.

Received same Coles offer. And it includes First Choice .Nothing from woolies yet

I usually check the Woolworths promotions web page on a Friday for details of the weekend offers. I got the triple flybuys points as well.

Woolworths have another general 15 cent fuel voucher offer. Spend $100 in one transaction to get the voucher, but check the exclusions on the WW promotions page before you shop. The promotion is valid until Sunday 16 December, so there's a little bit of time to plan a bulk shopping trip if necessary. I don't know if I'll take up the deal. My prediction is that next weekend (14-16 December) will be a Coles/Flybuys high value fuel offer weekend.

Thanks for that.

I need to stick with the WW vouchers as I cannot use the Coles ones. Using these we get about 120L at a time so it's a $18 saving.

Big W are having another big promotion on Thursday evening(13th December) from 5pm til closing time. The link to it was included with the targeted offer I received but it appears to be a general offer to EDR members. There are many terms and conditions but the simple explanation is, spend $100, swipe your EDR card and receive a $10 gift voucher sometime next month. The voucher will be sent to the address EDR have on file for you. It's limited to one gift card per membership.

With all these 15, 20 etc c/litre discounts, I guess we can expect to see the underlying fuel price rise (or remain high) by at least 10-15c/l for the next month :(

I guess it could be coincidence, but every time they offer the big fuel discounts, the fuel price seems to go up by a similar amount for a few weeks.
