A bit old but in late Nov I got a J to F upgrade on boarding EK plane with QF flight number in DXB after transit heading for Brussels. Very pleasant surprise! I only recall one QF op-up to F in 15 years of travelling J flights at least 4 times per year.

Mrs Bobe and my self both SG were bumped up to J from Y recently from SIN - MEB, QF flight No, EM metal ,never flown EM for years and the last time about 8 yrs ago, worth thinking about using them!! And doing a good sales job!

So how is Empire Airlines?

My first ever gate upgrade was EK ticket + metal DXB-ADD using my QF Silver (I am Blue EK). Pretty happy with that as I have not flown an EK ticket for about 3 years

Sincere apologies.

You were flying EK from SIN-MEL. I am assuming you weren't flying Empire Airlines from Singapore to Essendon.

If you are going to use codes then please use the right codes for airlines and routes.

Just got upgraded saver Y to J on EK413, AKL to SYD. QF SG but only 80 SCs this year or more precise since October 1, 2014. Not bad for a NZ$188 ticket. Lady at check-in said Y was oversold. Unfortunately, I never checked the seat maps to see if the decision has been made prior to checking in. QF flight number.

Choice! Did you have a pre-selected seat prior to checkin?

Previous comments suggested that upgrades across the ditch are rare.

No upgrade love for this QF SG on today's EK Auckland to Sydney flight.

Just finished PER-DXB-DUB-DXB-PER run in J. 0/4 upgrades to F; 2/4 acknowledgment by CSM; 3/4 good service.

First had spare seats but so did business on each run, although DUB-DXB was pretty full in J.

Lacklustre service on that flight, no matter how busy they are, should not have to ask 3 times to fill empty wine glass or ask 3 times for coffee.

The worst part was landing in DUB over an hour and a half late (circled for 40 minutes), then being parked in some back holding area requiring a bus to the terminal. (Nice to have a "business class bus though) No kidding bus took 20 minutes to reach for terminal after having to wait for planes and service vehicles on the way. Then dumped at door and had over a 1km walk to get to transfer desk for chauffeur and hotel. Surely bus could deliver somewhere closer than that! Affected all passengers, flight connectors and those stopping in DXB.

On arriving at hotel, had to wait until it could be cleaned due to previous passengers leaving (it was 3am by this time). Hotel bed was excellent when we finally got into it.

Apart from that pretty comfortable even though angle flat beds don't allow much sleep.

Received my first Y->J op-up three weeks ago from SYD-AKL. This was on an EK-coded ticket and was offered at check-in.

For those who have received multiple op-ups before, do you find this happens more when there's an EK flight number on your ticket or QF?

My only 5 Emirates flights have all been with QF numbers on ticket. Have had 2 upgrades J to F. One on a B777 and the other on a A380

No upgrade on my SIN-MEL flight earlier this month. Was booked on the QF code (not sure if this makes any difference).

I was pleasantly surprised when the chief purser in Y came by for a personal greeting and thanked me for my loyalty.

As a QF WP, i've done a couple of EK Flights on an EK Ticket and QF Ticket
JNB>DXB EK Ticket - Exit Row, Express Pass and Welcome
DXB>SGN EK Ticket - Op-Up Y>J at Gate (advised there may be one at check in)
SGN>DXB EK Ticket - Op-UP Y>J at Check In, Welcome and Express Pass
DXB>JNB EK Ticket - Exit Row, Briefest CSM Welcome as he walked past the exit row

MEL>AKL QF Ticket - Exit Row and only welcome on boarding from cabin crew. Although the ground staff member checking me in made a phone call and said "there's a note to ask this passenger if he's travelling alone". I wasn't :| I had friends on a separate booking. Maybe I was shortlisted for an Op-Up?
AKL>MEL QF Ticket - Bulkhead and a truly welcoming welcome from the cabin supervisor.

I have wondered for future trips across the Tasman whether i'll book through EK instead of QF.

That being said though, I did receive a lovely Op-Up from Qantas after a very delayed QF35 from MEL-SIN Y>J.... on a BA TICKET!

I've only flown Emirates twice - 4 legs in total - all in the past 3 months and all on a QF ticket. Out of these 4 legs, I've had 3 upgrades from business to first suites!!! BKK--> SYD, SYD-->DXB, DXB--> MAN.

I've been a Qantas platinum for almost 10 years, and NEVER had an upgrade. From now on, all bookings on EK where possible!!!
