EK upgrade "Love" on QF / EK coded flights - success rate?

Slightly OT again, but I have been flying LAN in Y (as QF WP) for the first time over the last few weeks in South America. Pleasant flights, all on time, nothing special. My last LAN flight was last night from LIM to JFK - Op Up to Business at the gate!! Too bad it was a old 767 but I'm not complaining!

Ive been given a one class upgrade on my previous 4 EK flights.

So thats 3 J-F and 1 Y-J :D

The Y-J was booked on an award flight :P

My wife and I are both SG. No upgrade, got Exit row for both EK flights (DXB to FCO, VCE to DXB)

As mentioned by others, EK recognises QFF more than QF does itself. Even SG receive a personal welcome from CSM and Fast Track card. To top this up, EK at the gate op up to J from DXB to AMS. EK metal but QF code. EK J service cannot be compared to QF J.

EK J service?? It can very easily be compared to QF J, EK J often has appalling service, witnessed it numerous times. They are great in F but I don't find them all that brilliant in J. My last flight took 120 mins to get a starter out.

We had really poor J EK service on a flight Syd - BKK. But that is 1 in 6 with poor service, but three op-ups (50/50) at the gate. So those odds work for me.

If things are great 20% of the time, reasonable to satisfactory 70% of the time and meh 10% - I'm happy overall. No airline is perfect.

This does raise the question....is the EK op-up rate for Gold/Plats now the best benefit for international Qantas FF'ers? I'm sitting at 20% upgrade rate with EK...compared to 1% with QF.

I concur with this. As an SG, I recently flew QF1 and QF2 in J SYD-DXB-SYD, and connected in DXB with EK1 and EK30 to and from LHR (with me on both via a QF codeshare), but flying in Y. Both meant lengthy but not unpleasant waits of approx 5 hours in the EK business lounge in DXB.

On EK1 I was given an exit row seat, and a fast track card. Fast track card with EK30 (although I didn't use it), and because there were few pax, I was given the middle row of four seats to myself in Y. CSM greeted me both times. I get that as an afterthought, occasionally, when flying J on QF. When I explained to a crew member on QF2 what I had done with my flight home, (Y from LHR-DXB, J from DXB-SYD so I could get a decent night's sleep before a full Sydney day) he looked most disapproving. What's it to him?! Fair dinkum.

Earlier this year is flew weekly MEL to AKL for 6 weeks on QF flight numbers.
If was on EK metal for my return flights and got op upgraded at least 4 times from Y to J including once at check in.
If it wasn't WP I'd always aim for EK metal as their lounges are much better than the QF J lounges.

Recently took my first two EK flights ever. Flashed my silver card at HKG EK checkin not really thinking it would make any difference - indeed EK desk literally said "that doesn't work here".

Get to the gate, BP scanned, "beep beep" .. "sir you've been upgraded to business". Not that I'm an expert on the rarified premium cabins, but EK's J on the A380 (1-2-1 config) struck me as being somewhere between regulation J and regulation first. Totally chuffed.

On checkin for the other EK flight I said "hoping you might have an exit row for me". Of course they did. That hasn't happened on QF for 3 years now. Been upgraded once I think on QF in 20 years (Y to PE), working for large corporate dyed-in-the-wool, loyal-to-QF companies that paid QF plenty.

The result: I will now look seriously at EK when flying (except of course DXB routes). Wouldn't have looked at them before unless I had to.

The lesson: Make your customers feel special and they'll look to fly with you whenever possible. Make them feel like nobodies and they'll treat your airline accordingly.

A long time coming, but I got my first op-up yesterday, J to F, BKK-SYD on QF code.
A blessing, as I really wasn't looking forward to the B777 J cabin.
Having followed the numbers and seat maps, it seemed to me that J had been oversold.

Recent first trip with EK, on QF number, Perth - Dubai - Dublin and got upgrade on both legs, very nice, thanks EK.

Will get my first flight on EK later this year, only in Y though. Hopefully my WP status may provide some luck.

Is there any anecdotal evidence whether being booked as an EK or QF codeshare makes any difference in those receiving op-ups?

On the return leg Dublin-Dubai-Perth, both economy very full, but no joy of upgrades, so a bit hit and miss.

2/3 Y-J over the last 2 years. All booked on QF flight number. I've mostly avoided EK flights where I can and stuck with QF metal.
Boy am I glad the recent one came through. That one flight on the 777 in Y was awful. Space was fine as I had an empty next to me, but boy was the seat uncomfortable. I had a numb bum after 2 hours.

I've noticed both times that I was upgraded, Y was showing zero availability in expertflyer, with >0 J seats available. So it's not been a surprise when they've been offered.
First was on boarding, second on check in.

Lots of talk in this thread about upgrades where economy was oversold... but, are there many or any cases of the op-up appearing to have happened on lighter loads? I've got some EK trans-Tasman flights this week, and they are rarely full

I'm not going to be any use, schedule changes meant it was easier for me to get QF the whole way.

Your right is saying that the EK flights Trans-Tasman are rarely full, although I am aware of a MEL > AKL ( EK A380) being oversold by 19 last year and as a result some passengers had to be upgraded to J.

The checkin agent who told me this, said that the chosen passengers who are upgraded were understandably quite delighted on scoring an upgrade :)
