EK upgrade "Love" on QF / EK coded flights - success rate?

If I was a Skywards member using EK points on an EK flight, I think ODU at the counter can work.
Because I wasn't a Skywards member, mere QF SG and I told the girl at the EK AKL check in counter this, (there were 2 of them at the one counter), it didn't work to get me up from J to F on the return to Au.
Edit: RichardMEL, did they constantly ply you with wine on the flight?

Yeah well not many checkin staff are going to just upgrade upon request for free, why would they? ? They dont have that sort of discretion anyway. I'd be embarassed to ask

You'd be surprised how many are not embarrassed to ask. Slipping a box of Ferrero Rocher and btw asking how's the loads in F today...

As a QF-WP, I've flown a total of one EK sector in Y (DXB-PER, QF code, Oct 2014) with a gate upgrade to J - 100% Y>J success rate, woo hoo! Flew six sectors in J this year (all QF codes), no upgrades to F. Can't complain too much though!

Looking forward to some love - albeit just service related! - on my F award PER-DXB-MAN return in January. :D

always good service on EK? Thats laughable (in my experience).

OpUps on trans tasman just aren't as common as elsewhere in the network, flights are rarely full.

True and true but I felt I should say something nice. Definitely had a feeling he was putting down QF with his comment (not that this is surprising in the least)

In general though I have had exceptionally good EK experiences including a wonderful birthday surprise last month and some other things. I do agree they can do better (as can every airline) and they're not the holy grail (and things have gone downhill since I first flew F a mere 5 years ago) but it's still a very very nice product (specially in F).

I'm QF SG, Upgraded Y to J in August at the gate flying DXB-DUB, Y was oversold so lots of non-status pax go upgraded too. Seat was great especially after flying from MEL-DXB, service was very cold, crew were seriously unhappy for some reason.

they probably didn't like eachother, I've seen some very inharmonious crews before...

no love for me on EK406 MEL-AKL (booked J on a super SUPER cheap fare - $440 for J). Anyway J was pretty full but that's OK.

Of note the CSM appeared and welcomed me as a QF Platinum then quipped "I hope you like Emirates too!" - I think he was trying to suggest I head over to Skywards or something. I just said I enjoy the always good service on EK and he let it go.

No love on EK406 or EK407, though doesnt help that my SG somehow went missing from my boarding pass (QFF number there, just no status).

I was flying LHR-DXB-BNE in October - paid Flex Y, LHR-DXB in Y, but I was more interested in DXB-BNE obviously.

J7 Y0 in the days before departure, then in DXB it went J0 Y0 while I was in the DXB FLounge. At the FLounge gate there were plenty of triple beeps, including mine (thankfully!).

At the entry to the lounge I did ask if there were any better Y seats than what I had (I just had a random window seat towards the front) and she said "I'll put you on the list". I honestly don't think it had any impact on my upgrade though, as surely those are processed by a computer as required, not by a lounge agent.

I think our luck is largely due to our Adelaide departure. Then add on WP for the other upgraded flight over Xmas holiday period.

I'm 2/4 but all QF Coded flights.

I got some insight coming back from SIN the other day. The EK lounge attendant apologised to me for not being able to upgrade to J. I was surprised but she said they normally upgrade if possible in the usual status tiers but because the J section was already filled out with EK status pax there was no room to accommodate.

EK 406 today Y-J at check in for this SG yay

should probably clarify it was the MEL-AKL sector at OMG-o'clock

No. I am 3/6 J to F. All on QF tickets.

Thanks for the confirmation.
