EK upgrade "Love" on QF / EK coded flights - success rate?

Mine were QF codes too. The two sectors that were not QF codeshares (DXB to Venice) were the 2 sectors we were not upgraded, but booked through Qantas and they knew MrP was WP as he received a greeting.

Lucky you, NZJuiorDoc.
I tried J to F at checkin on 27Dec, QF tix on the 380, no luck AKL - MEL.
Didn't try again at the gate though.

I am 1 for 6. All QF codes. One of the 6 was a Y Trans-Tasman (never again). No upgrade. The rest were medium/long haul J flights, one of which was upgraded to F (SIN-MEL) as a QF P1. Superb.

A far, far better ratio than on QF metal as WP or P1.

I didn't actually ask since I was too bogged down the days prior to work in Melbourne. Just waltzed up to check in at that ungodly hour with my QF-codeshare and she handed my a boarding pass saying business and "you'll be flying business today" with a smile :D

It is substantially harder to get an op up without first demonstrating specific 'loyalty' to EK. My op ups only came in after the 5th flight or so ;)

probably ties in a bit with what the CSM said to me the other day about hoping I loved Emirates as well as QF. :p

anyway op ups are not so much about asking for it (in my view anyway) but receiving it as a lovely surprise - either due to "rewarding" status/loyalty, or in an oversell situation.

Interesting - I have flown a bunch of paid EK J and F mostly between AUS and NZ, and once coming home from LHR (all on QF codes) - so maybe that does hold weight. I was definitely in their iPad (well HP tablet thing) with some notes.

I dont think there is any reasoning. Our upgrade was our very first EK (QF code) flight as WP.

I do wonder if my problem has been the fact I've been on QF tickets

One out of two EK flights for me.

My flight BCN/DXB on EK was part of a Classic award booked as EK186 in N class. You can't book a QF codeshare flight for award travel on EK.The rest of the ticket was QF2 & QF508 DXB/xSYD/BNE in X class.

There was a delay due to 2 unserviceable exit doors that could be MEL'd however quite a number of pax had to be moved away from the area around these doors which meant upgrading them.

The CSM came through the cabin with a list (I'm assuming some kind of manifest listing ppl by their status) asking pax to follow him and we were ushered upstairs while the Swissport ground staff reissued our boarding passes.

My other flight was SYD/AKL on EK412 which was another Classic award in N class. No upgrade but the flight mustn't have been oversold as I had 59K with a spare seat.

Not sure whether it was my shadow or the guy in 59H who had an array of both QF and VA bag tags on his carry on.

There seemed to be plenty of legroom in whY as it felt very spacious.

Not true. My very first EK flight with them ever, resulted in a Y->J op-up due to oversell. That was on EK7 DXB/LHR.

I second that; I had about 75% rate of op-ups right after I started flying on EK metal, but nada recently. In fact on my last flight on EK metal, the flight was well overbooked (both Y and J). I was in DBX lounge and was following the op-ups on my mobile (expert flyer) while talking with the lounge angels (they were entertained that I could get access to so much data; and we were competing to see whose system gets updated faster :-) ). Many people got J->F, and some got Y->J, but I was told there were 7 QF WPs in Y and *none* of us got upgraded. The only QF people that got upgraded were a couple of CLs who got J->F. That was a DXB-MEL flight early December.

I'm now 1 for 5 with our first upgrade being from J to F for Mrs and I from SYD-AKL yesterday. We were on the QF codeshare.

Flight was looking full from a few days out in both Y & J, and so hopes were up. Nothing at check in, but got the special red light on boarding! Also my first taste of DP 2005, as a result... very, very nice.

Cheers,
Matt.

Now 2 for 6... Mrs and I upgraded again at the gate from J to F coming over from AKL to SYD tonight. Very full in Y, no doubt oversold, and many pushed forwards. F still remained about 1/2 full, even after upgrades

So far twice both J --> F on 777 aircrafts (within last 12 months) as J was seemingly full in both cases. First one was DXB->DUB, second one was SIN->MEL. Both much appreciated as the J offering on the 777s is far below what one would expect considering the remaining sectors were all on A380 in J. All booked on the QF codeshares in either I or D booking class.

Been flying heavily for the past 4 years and have been QFF WP for 3 of the 4 years

Have had 3 OP Ups from Y to Y+ in my 3 years on QF

Have flown a 10 return flights on EK between NZ and Au and not gotten any op ups (QF Ticketed flights), however flying Syd - DXB return last year and been upgraded to J both ways (QF Ticketed flights), first flight J was very empty, 2nd flight Y was over booked. Also just got a Y to J upgrade flying from DXB into Riyadh (EK Ticket) in the last month as well so odds on EK Op ups are a lot better in my experience anyway

Clearly NZ - Aus is not a route that is upgraded. Not enough seats sold.
