EK upgrade "Love" on QF / EK coded flights - success rate?

These days I book QF EK flights on the expectation I won't. *sigh*

But I am glad my op-ups are going to a good home, Pushka! :)

I'd say 'come fly with me' and see if that changes. Sadly, its nothing to do with me and all about MrP.

Same here: after a good run at the start I have not had an op-up on EK for a couple of years (even on flights that were oversold--I kept talking and checking with the lounge staff while people got upgraded from J to F and then others upgraded from Y to J, but mine did not budge :-( ). This pattern has contributed to me tending to buy CX/BA in J these days more often than I buy QF/EK in Y.

About to board EK413 AKL to SYD and Y is FULL according to EF with J being about 70%. I got a op up on the way over on 412, so am not holding my breath, but an at gate red light would be welcomed :-)

You can easily check whether you have been opup'd on EK. Just go on their website and go back into OLCI. If your seat has changed it'll show it as having been changed.

On my EK flight, I booked into QF J on that flight, AKL - MEL, I did ask nicely.
I think I nearly made it with one EK check in agent, but then, there was a very strict girl standing behind, and she abruptly asked, "using points?", I said no, and I got the reply, "sorry cabin full".
I didn't peep up into F on that 380 to see if it was true or not.
But the F counter at AKL did have a number of pax checking in.
I think that there is some magic somewhere that makes op ups work as a QF flier on EK flights.

You're missing the point of this thread (IMHO).

While there's absolutely nothing wrong with asking at check-in for an upgrade, the assumption there is that you have an instrument (eg: EK miles, or cash) to pay for it.

This thread is about EK Op Ups, or courtesy upgrades, due to status or other reasons (most likely oversold cabins).

Some here clearly are shown more "love" than others, or random chance seems to work more in their favour (or certain ports, eg SIN) seem to be better about it. I've never had it flying J trans-tasman, but that's OK it really doesn't bother me. Sure would be nice, but when I haven't got it I'm not worrying, and I certainly don't book a flight with the expectation that it will happen :) that's just me.

Op up to j on qf coded ek akl-mel last week (at counter bagdrop after earlier olci).
Had similar on syd-chc previously.

I fly a fair bit TT with EK and haven't had an OpUp once TT.

Had quite a few in other parts of the world DXB-HAM J-F and SIN-MEL J-F

I've got some TT EK legs this week, see if I keep the streak or break new ground

Op-up on AKL-MEL the other night from Y-J, on a QF code. I could see Y was likely oversold, had OLCI ~20 hours before, got new BP at check in desk.
FWIW I'd seen the same kind of overselling on that route before and this is the first time it's happened so I did not have my hopes up at all.

Received an op-up from J-F on EK435 (travelling on a QF code) AKL-BNE last night. Received my new boarding pass when I entered the lounge in AKL.

Finally got a J->F upgrade, Today, now, on EK435, AKL-BNE.

Was wondering how I would keep myself away from ICE to enjoy this, and as it turns out ICE is down on A6-EEG and just had flight attendants try to do safety demonstration in person.

Saw I lost my seat at 11am, so at check in asked to be put out of my misery and be put in 1K, was told sorry cannot do, but will put you in 3k if that helps with any misery you are under.

Re: EK upgrade love

Totally agree globetrotter Qantas need to step up there game as I think there will be a mass exodice. They say your the reason we fly. Mmm well treat your customers with the service they deserve. I think down the track QF will regret the partnership.

we are down the track and I don't believe QF has expressed any regret over the EK Partbership?

thoughts?

Re: EK upgrade love

We had a good run the last few weeks with Y to J op-ups for myself and Madame on three of four sectors: BKK-DXB, DXB-MUC, BUD-DXB, DXB-BKK.
All three looked well oversold.

They also allowed us an extra guest in the DXB F lounge (after consulting a supervisor) and broke out the Hennessy Paradis on one flight where the standard J issue XO wasn’t available.

Re: EK upgrade love

Report received that mum has been op-upped Y-J on BCN-DXB. QF flight numbr, QF silver, connecting in DXB to a J fare to Oz, one booking

Upgrade Fairy today

Just had to share….first time ever. On a paid J flight DBX to BNE yesterday, both of us gold QF FF. As we were about to board were given 2 first class boarding passes for our EK but QF ticketed flight. We were delighted!
