Everyday Rewards launches Everyday Extra subscription product

Some pretty disappointing changes (enhancements) to the program are on the way as of 1 July 2023:
  • The price of annual subscriptions will be increasing from $59 to $70 per year (monthly will be staying the same at $7 per month)
  • Rewards will drop from 3x points to 2x points with every shop
  • The 10% discount for Woolworths and Big W will no longer be able to be used online - in-store only
They're obviously expecting some negative responses to the changes, so they have also announced:
  • Anyone who subscribed prior to 29 May 2023 will get free access - 3 months if you're an annual subscriber, 1 month if you pay month-by-month. Your first billing date after 1 July will be pushed back to reflect your free access period
  • Annual subscribers also have the option to cancel their subscription immediately and receive a refund for the remaining balance (available until 31 July 2023)
As someone who does 90% of their shopping online, this is a massive devaluation and I'll definitely be cancelling.
Indeed. The reduction and loss of flexibility to use the discount online is annoying, but little impact to me personally; just the 1 base point reduction. I use my 10% discounts in-store on shops that will no less than double recover the monthly sub cost (so, it has been a minimum $99 shop; which will need to become a minimum $117 shop - but usually they are more like $200 shops when I redeem them anyway). Rarely redeem Big W, and don't use WW online.

Cheers.
Matt.

Semi-related (and slightly off topic), looks like they've done a sweep of all their subscription products as they've announced changes to their Delivery Unlimited product too, although potentially with less of an impact to Extra changes ($75 minimum spend now required for free delivery instead of $50, and bag fees no longer covered). 2x points for online orders unchanged, and 3 free months offered as retention for annual subscribers.

They gave all staff a once per month double staff discount (so 10% at Woolworths and 20% at Big W) option on their staff discount cards, then a few months later, folded that into a free Everyday Extra subscription to all staff.

After around 8 months, they must have figured out that adding ~200,000 free subscriptions is costing the Everyday Extra program too much.

I am aware that, for insurances etc;
"Only one 10% discount is available each month, regardless of how many eligible Everyday Insurance, Woolworths Mobile or Woolworths Credit Card products you hold."

but is it possible to have a 10% discount/ month with Everyday Extra and also a 10%/month with an insurance product?

Yes if you have EE and an insurance product, you get 2x10% discounts per month

Yes - we have four 10% discounts per month we use. Two mobile phone plans for MrsK and I (extra $ savings also having switched from Telstra), life ins, and the Everyday Rewards. That makes it worthwhile for us, as we have a big Woolies just nearby and I shop in store.

This was in the team message from the CEO about the changes announced today:
"As you may be aware, we have been piloting Everyday Extra and are now transitioning to rapidly scale it, hence the changes."

I received the email this morning for Everyday Extra, but haven't seen anything yet for the Delivery Unlimited which I got to try and avoid going into the stores. Any ideas when the Delivery Unlimited changes come into effect for existing subscribers? With the changes as well for EE, hard to know if the Delivery Unlimited is now worth it or not if we're being forced to shop in store for the 10% off each month

Must be tough times over there at Woolworths, as they grapple with checks notes 8% Q3 and 4% half yearly increase in revenues.

1st of July - same time as the Everyday Extra changes.

I don’t understand why the discount can no longer be offered on online purchases. IT issues or do they have data to show that online buyers spend less and less likely to buy preferred products and promos?

I suspect it was due to the fact that some people were "double dipping" and using the 10% discount both in store and online.

I suspect it's data driven rather than an IT limitation

I'll still receive more value from renewing my Extra subscription than if I cancel it. I have not used a 10% discount on-line in the year that I have had the membership, so that is not bit loss for me personally, though could be for some people. I'll still well and truly cover the annual membership fee just from my 10% monthly Woolworth discount. The lower points earning is annoying and frustrating, but still better than 1X points for non-Extra membership.

I am not at all surprised that the introductory offer is being "enhanced". Disappointed, but not surprised.

Yes I got the email. I have only used the discount instore and make sure I use it on a big shop. The changes are disappointing but still worthwhile for me.

Can confirm that I too have received the same email regarding the “ enhancements “.

However I noticed when I went to Woolies & Big W yesterday even though I had already used my 10 % discount this month I was offered a “ 5% team member discount” at Woolies and at Big W with clothing being discounted from what I can gather at 10% - so it seems they might have some profiles inaccurately set up.
For the record I don’t work at Woolies -and haven’t for decades, but have for its one of it’s competitors in the last decade. 😜

100% - it seems their is a lag between when one uses the discount instore and when it says the discount has been utilised on the app- meaning the discount can be used x2 per month for each Woolies and Big W - meaning if your quick enough that’s a $200 discount per month.

Seems like the easier option was to annoy customers and force them to go instore, rather than admitting they have an issue and fixing it to avoid the issue in the first place.

It explains why, when I have been instore on the odd occasion, that I get the prompt when paying to use the 10% discount after already using it online days earlier
