Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Typically, if there are no classic award seats available, the Any-Seat awards will have a very big number in the points required column

Would it not depend on the loadings on that flight and the time of year though? Just because no classic availability wouldn't necessarily mean a ridiculous number of points required.

I was just going through the application process and noticed the lock in the address bar has a red x over it and the http is red with a red line through it, is that usual? I noticed it is the same when I log on to my everyday awards account also.

Likely based on the information given and the credit score of the applicant - some people get instant approval (eg yours and mine) whilst others may need to provide more info (Mrs Paddy)

I usually get asked for info because of my age (early 20s), just need to provide proof of income (sent them a few pages of a bank statement) and Bob's your father's brother.

It's hard to know what to do with the other credit cards if I get this one - I've already got three - picked up the Wizard card last year for overseas ATM access only and haven't used it since. Have a Visa card (basic) through our home loan bank which is convenient for transfers and a Gold MC from the CBA which I use for all work expenses - I'm self-employed. So something's gotta give I guess. The fees are the killers in keeping several cards. Every card is paid off by the due date so there's no question of paying interest - the rate doesn't concern me.

Decisions, decisions.

What's a Wizard card for ATM access overseas? I just use my regular Westpac eftpos card , I am doing the wrong thing?

See this thread: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....zard-mastercard-cash-advances-while-6960.html

Basically, while you can avoid fees with a Westpac card when using an ATM of a member from the "Global Banking Alliance", Westpac still add a ~2% margin into the exchange rates they use for FOREX.

The Wizard uses a FOREX rate at or close to the prevailing day's cross rate.

Just be glad you don't live in the ACT - you need to fill out information on all of your assets, income, expenditure, etc. There's no such thing as instant approvals here :)

Here's the form I had to fill out when getting my Qantas Ultimate AMEX earlier this year:
ACT - Additional Financial Details - AMEX... in posted pics

In a way it's better because it provides the financial institution with a more accurate view of your financial position. It can also be irritating, because (for example) you can't apply for a credit limit increase over the phone - you must fill in paperwork.

Anyway, I'll skip this one. I'm happy with my current NAB Qantas Gold (which I believe has just been moved up to Platinum) and my AMEX Qantas Ultimate - the credit limits are more than I need and they provide the right feature set for me :)

I had my ANZ Visa as my main card and the Wizard Mastercard for when I travel. The Visa is getting cancelled, but I'm keeping the Wizard Mastercard for internation travel (and online purchases). The ability to withdraw cash from overseas ATMs at almost XE - The World's Favorite Currency and Foreign Exchange Site rates is just too good to pass up in a card that has no annual fee!

Of course all other expenses (including work refundable overseas expenses) will go on the Woolworths card for maximum points :)

I'm not completely up with the specifics, but I understanf from 1 Jan the rest of us will need to provide more information, as part of the implementation of the National Consumer Protection Act.

I’ve always assumed you can’t, or it’s automatic somehow as it might be linked to the card.

With the other Woolies credit card they linked it to your EDR account so fuel purchases are automatically discount & vouchers deducted when you use the credit card. Since most Amex cards give more points, I'd still be inclined to pay the old way unless in a rush.

Okay a question for everyone. Given I'm studying currently, on paper I really don't meet the income requirements. In reality I spend enough but that's not what they're asking. Limited assets at my age but then I essentially have 0 debt (apparently that's not so common now). The question is should I even bother applying? I seldom need a Visa, all but one place I frequent takes Amex and so the advantages are minimal. If it was a proper bank/financial institution I could just show a 12 months summary on my current card - then again maybe they don't want people who pay cards off in full every month. Is it a pointless endeavour?

My card arrived today 5% of gross income, ah well Amex is usually successful

+1 for 5% of gross income. I was worried I wouldn't get the card as I was sure I filled out the fields incorrectly, but it has arrived in the mail.

$89 for 16,000 points isn't too bad. I wonder how long I should keep the card before I cancel it?

So far for me, pointless ;) but hey, was worth a shot.

I too think CC companies these days are after debt, or those that will get into debt, not those that will be good customers, because being a good customer generally includes giving them a lot of money!

Anyone planning to use the concierge service? I think this is the only non-platinum card with this feature.

It is a platinum card, it's just that they don't seem to promote this aspect!
