OK, 7 business days later my EDR page finally has a section for Pending Everyday Rewards Qantas Credit Card Application. Weird thing is that this appeared over the weekend.

I might just set an expectation for another 7 business days to get a response from them.

So for those still waiting -

I applied 1st Nov - Received an approved letter dated 4th on the 12th! EDR still shows PENDING.

I had to go to a Woolies over the weekernd for the 100 point check. Been advised card will arrive in the next few business days.

Yes, I bought a leather sofa a couple of years ago on interest free credit and it had to be paid off using an HSBC card. Now it all makes sense ;)

I've had no dealings with HSBC before, it seems quite random although I'm sure there is logic there somewhere.

I got knocked back, which might be due to the large personal loan I took out a month back :), who knows... I only wanted the points .. wah

I'm always surprised that these companies respond a flat decline policy, I would have thought that as a bare minimum most applications close to being knocked back would be given a small limit to "test the water" and perhaps an increase later....

After all, you only need to pay back the minimum each month and this plays into their hands nicely...$$$$$$$

Sorry to hear you could not even afford a $1k limit, guess things must be tight your end if you can't afford the $6 per week minimum payback...:shock::shock:

I don't even have any debt, and always repay my credit card on time (ever since I got a credit card with ANZ for over 10 years), not sure why they don't even give a $3000 credit limit. Just ridiculous.

I bet you they don't like self employed people!

Houston, we have a problem..... I'm self employed :(

A'hh that'd be the reason I'm still pending approval.... this raises one silly point, Im now earning 2x the money self employed than when I was on the payroll... back in those days I got 30% of my gross income as a credit limit...!

Seems we are all affected by the "GFC" these days, tight cough...

Sorry mate, we don't stand a chance then. Just let us know if you do get a pleasant surprise anyway.

I received a letter in the mail today asking for more information. I comes with a reply paid envelope and they ask for proof of recent payslips and a copy of my drivers license. It then goes on to say that I can confirm my identity at a Woolworths Supermarket and the applicable points scale for the different documents is on the back.

I’m too lazy to type the whole letter out.

Just received my card after an online application.

(Have an existing HSBC Bank Account)

Just wondering, does anyone know HSBC's treatment of online gambling / sportsbetting transactions? I know Westpac charge a Cash Advance Fee, does HSBC do the same?

Thanks.

I'm also self-employed which was no barrier to getting a Wizard card last year. I've also had relentless increases in my credit limits on my Gold MC and standard Visa. I'd say I could rack up $40K on them combined (without checking the limits, may be even more). As I don't carry any debt on them ever (have had a MC for 22 years and have never paid interest on it) that should be evidence enough that I'm no credit risk but we'll see.

Maybe they don't want people who aren't going to be giving them lots of interest payments! In their position I wouldn't either.

Just had to phone in to answer some really basic questions, one of them being because they had my annual income down as monthly income lol :p. Funny that they did not need me to prove income...? Perhaps I'm only going to be allowed a $500 limit he he :D

Approval went through and my account shows me as the proud owner of the new Woolworths Qantas Credit Card. :)

Haven't got the card yet.

Do you need to send the orginal payslip, or just a photo copy of the original?

How many slips do you need to send?

Thanks. Though I suppose I was joking, as this is probably bordering on fraud? :p

As much as I want a CC, I also don’t want to go to jail, although if I’m going to be fined, putting it on my new MC and earning points would be useful ;)

From the letter they sent me they asked for a "copy of a recent payslip". So if you’re waiting for your own letter, you only need a copy.

When I asked the person at the call centre if I could put a personal tax bill on the card I heard a gasp. She suggested that this card is for store purchases. As a result of that answer I thought I wouldnt ask any more questions.

Question: Will paying a Tax bill via BPay earn ff points...? Anybody done this and been awarded points on any bank / card...?

You don't use BPay, the ATO has a special online portal where you pay:

How to pay

see the link towards the bottom to Government EasyPay. Note that there is a fee charged by the ATO for this privilege

I've paid my last two BAS using an Amex plat charge card and have received rewards points for the transactions.

Beware though that many cards exclude business purpose expenditures from eligibility for earning points and/or expenditures made from a credit balance.

There's a thread all about this here:
