Exciting News from Allan (according to the email)

Curious if you will be able to select your seat if you use your FF card to check in (it suggests you will be allocated a seat at the boarding gate)...

I like the sound of it though, especially the priority security lane. Just wish they could do this at the international airport too.

JOBU

Priority Security already exists at MEL and SYD for WP and people travelling in J/F. You're given Express cards to fast-track through security and immigration. I've got a small collection of them after no one ever having taken them off me, or the queues being non-existant for the regular queue that I just took that instead.

I suspect the answer is No (same as Mobile check-in) particularly for the express-check option whih seems to be little more than a coloured pole with a tag reader.

Like Mobile check-in if you have used Select Seats you have already pre-allocated.

Still want to know if you can use mobile check-in to check-in then the card/tag at the gate.

This would be nice.

One thing is that this'll probably make it nigh impossible for anyone to get a cardboard boarding pass any more. You could explicitly request one at the QP or service desk, but you'll probably get anything from a strange look to refusal. So for those of you out there - the romantic days of collecting BPs is over (at least for domestic travel through NGCI enabled ports anyway).

Other things I'd like to hear (esp. either from the QF insiders on this board):
  • How will priority boarding be done? Will there be two lanes - one for general and one for priority only? Or will it be a case of if you are able to priority board, then just shove in front? (The latter case is bound to be socially awkward!)
  • When you print your own bag tag, do you get a sticky-docket (baggage receipt) or what not in order to track your bag? Or will there be an advice to peel one of the spare small barcodes off to keep as a record?
  • Touch wood, but when the new RFID bag tags come along, there will be no need to print baggage tags for eligible customers. But this means there is no way of tracing the bag if it gets lost. How will this problem be addressed?
I think it will be odd when the RFID tags come out, because without a normal bag tag, how does the tracking system / baggage handling system serialise (count) your bag? I know this is used by systems to track where bags are (e.g. give baggage services your bag receipt and they can tell you where your bag was last handled / scanned)

Trust News Corp papers to screw up in some way with this story:

Look at the photo, U2 != QF - not by any stretch of the imagination. Nor not surprisingly does the chosen photo look anything like QF's PER T2... a little too BAA for my liking that shot.

Geez....not even close. Unless they chose the picture as an abstract allusion to the theme of cutting queues/lines rather than showing that it was going to happen at PER airport.

Of course, if they had bothered to go out to PER airport, they could have easily got a crowded line-up photo any day of the week.

As an aside, perhaps a mod should edit the title of this thread. The news came from CEO Mr Joyce, but his first name is spelt Alan (with one 'l').

However Priority Boarding is only available for J pax and WPs.

I thought Priority Boarding was a OWS (SG) benefit?

Sapphire - Qantas Frequent Flyer Gold

Gold is equivalent to oneworld Sapphire
Qantas Gold Frequent Flyers have Sapphire status when flying with oneworld member airlines on qualifying flights.
When you fly with any of the oneworld alliance carriers, simply show your Qantas Gold Frequent Flyer card with its oneworld Sapphire symbol and you'll be treated to many of the privileges you enjoy as a Qantas Gold Frequent Flyer.

...

Preferred boarding
You'll be invited to board at your convenience.

OT - but did you elect not to receive it? I don't recall making a choice either way. Or have you opted not to receive anything by s-mail from QF?

I have gone for a "do not even think about sending me anything other than that directly relating to my account" setting. In order to do this did have to phone Qantas and get them to add the info to their system. Online profile changes only allow setting restrictions on electronic communication

Have not received any spam from Qantas or debt card pushing in the last cpl of years

An alternate 'Plan B' is to accept their emails but use a self control filter such as MailWasher to control your inward emails as there are some occasions where the normal email trash is actually useful.

This photo is one of the Easy Jet Check in at London Gatwick airport. I know this beacuse I have been there done that.

I think they stuff up big time.

And yes I did get the email this morning. I have traveled quite abit last year and have a few trips to come.

Cheers Coops

I don't believe any questions have been raised yet regarding multi-stop trips originating at PER via a destination which does not have NGCI implemented ...

(1) Assuming successful Q-chip boarding at PER, how and when will a boarding pass/receipt be obtained for the second leg?

(2) What about QP access for SG's? Will there be a reader at the desk to ensure that the passenger is actually travelling?

Wouldn't surprise me. At the moment they scan your mobile 2D barcode if you use that to check in.

Apart from the time at MEL they waved me through without even looking at it when i was holding my phone out for them...

different approaches sort different folks... personally I prefer to ensure that they do not send any spam whatsoever either by mail or email ( same as I do with other companies ) plus have phone numbers registered on https://www.donotcall.gov.au/

Dave,

As you say different strokes for different folks though I completely agree with the do not call registry comment. :D

I agree about Perth where Priority seems to have the reverse meaning but I can honestly say I have rarely if ever had an issue in Melbourne.

The last 3 trips I've had back into PER, bags have come off in the order of J tagged, Priority tagged, then normal... strange, I know!

Wonder when the QPNB/QPPS will receive the email as we're supposed to be receiving privileges as part of NGCI implementation.

Also interesting as the video walk-thru hasn't accounted for this group of customers.

Also would have thought that given the bag drop has a screen device, it wouldn't be hard to handle payment from there with a simple card-swipe and emailed receipt.

I am QP PS and received the e-mail early this morning.

Just had another look at my email.
I am one of those annoying people whose 1st name on Passport, QFF etc is not the name they are known by. The email from Alan is addressed to my middle, preferred name. All previous mail, email etc has had my full name on it. My middle name is listed as an initial on QF profile. V curious!

Two questions:

Are Priority tags attached at the bag drop?

What privileges do non status QP members receive?
