Exciting News from Allan (according to the email)

Priority Security already exists at MEL and SYD for WP and people travelling in J/F. You're given Express cards to fast-track through security and immigration. I've got a small collection of them after no one ever having taken them off me, or the queues being non-existant for the regular queue that I just took that instead.

Unfortunately Perth airport has always been a joke in this regard. They've just renovated the domestic airport and security is a bit of an improvement but most of my trips have been international lately, where I've been able to skip through customs with an APEC card but then the great equaliser is the security hall with 1, sometimes 2 lanes and no priority.

The Express Cards are only valid on arrival rather than departure and not use them yet in Perth. Mind you, it's usually faster to go through the regular lanes as the 1 lane reserved for those passes is usually the slowest...

However, finding good priced J ASAs are not easy in the near future (and I am trying to find some flights ex-SYD for A332s with the new seats).

Somewhat OT but what's a J ASA? Presumably some kind of special J class fare, but what is it and if good value how do i book it instead of the regular online booking fare? cheers.

PS:
Air - yes
WP - yes
Perth - no and no email from Allan for me!

A business class "Any Seat Award" redemption on the Qantas FF program.

It was in the Australian this morning:

Qantas trials new check-in technology | The Australian

QANTAS has signalled it will tighten its excess baggage policy as it introduces futuristic new domestic check-in facilities.
A trial of some of the new technologies begins in Perth next week when the flying kangaroo issues new frequent flyer smart cards to a select group of its premium flyers.

I'm a part of a select group of Premium flyers!! (Still want the double SC offer though!!)

Interesting to know there are "600,000 upper-tier frequent flyers," according to The Australian... that would be Silver, Gold, Platinum and CL, I'd think?

L.

Two questions:

Are Priority tags attached at the bag drop?

What privileges do non status QP members receive?

1. It will be printed on the bag tag

2. They will get nothing, basically their product is QP membership and that's it. They want access to the lounge, they have got it by paying for it. That's it. Obviously they don't travel that much otherwise they would be atleast silver.

This is not correct epass lanes exist outbound in SYD and Mel for security and immigration.

The speed advantage is variable though.

I find this part of the article interesting:
". . . but revealed yesterday a new baggage policy was due out towards the end of the year."
I don't think it was that long ago (maybe a couple of years, probably less) that the current weight policy was introduced.

Back to the old system at 1pce at 32kgs... Any more than 1pce then excess baggage.

Air - No - maybe not WP for long enough
PER - yes (Duh!)
Email - yes
Excited - No!

Ooooh. Big inside news, QFCSA. Thank you. Is it correct to assume that there will still be status benefits associated with luggage (eg. Platinum gets an extra 32kgs or something like that)?

I could be completly wrong about this though, there is just a little talk going around. Also can't really think of any other differences/changes that would happen for baggage?
They wouldn't decrease the allowance, as 23kgs is pretty standard, and i can't see them increase the standard allowance, so going to the pce system sounds logical.

edit: for the extra's for WP's etc, i assume that would be the same as the current US baggage allowance.

Obviously can't confirm until the general public knows, as that's when the ground staff would know, but can talk about rumors and what has been said indirectly/directly by managers.

LOL thanks QFCSA, although rumours lead to speculation which is a staple for debate and furore on this forum! :p :D

As usual I have not received any notification.

There is a lot of excitement in this thread. Personally this new system does not offer me anything that is not currently available to me. Also

- Priority baggage does not work on domestic flights
- Does anyone care about priority boarding on domestic flights in economy? (the last thing I want is to sit in the first row of economy waiting for 150-200+ passengers to walk past me with their junk)

Select group of Premium Flyers? :p

And yes I would have much preferred a double SC promotion offer as well. ;)

I normally try to board near the front of the queue. Sometimes on cityflyer flights it's the only way I can find space amongst the (I'm certain often oversize) bags in the overheads for my little shoulder bag. I'm often asleep before we push back ;)
