Famous people seen (or even met) whilst flying or lounging

Spotted Michael Malone (CEO of iinet) at the MEL DOM J Lounge this morning (about 8am).

Incidentally - they had bacon and eggs in the lounge :) - unfortunately SWMBO has me on a low cholesterol diet :(.

If he's famous.. then add him to my list a few times, in the PER Dom lounge. Last time was when I was on my way to CeBIT, which he would have been too.

Robbie Madison (Crusty Demons) in seat 1C QF400 MEL-SYD this morning. Slept the whole way.

Ugh QF400 ;) but nice spot! Robbie is a legend! Usually spotted with a can of Mountain dew glued to his hand... Must be a sponsor...

Very interesting and amusing thread.

My own contribution:

Historical

Pat Rafter QF MEL/BNE (1A him 1C) me; he slept all the way. We walked up the airbridge and through to luggage collection together and chatted. V nice bloke.

Snoop Doggy QF BNE/HKG in 1A. Obviously distrusted QF catering. He bought his own supply of Hungry Jacks.

Female politician QF BNE/SYD (when they had domestic F) 0530 departure - full make up, hair do and mink! Sat in my seat 1J and refused to move.

Jamie Durie QF SYD/MEL. Had to stand on the seat to reach into the overhead locker.

Last week

Matt Moran QF BNE/SYD sitting well behind me - I was in 25A. on the same flight the vet from Bondi vet. He is VERY tall; just as well he was in J.

I've flown with MM a few times (pure co-incidence) on PER-MEL in J.

He's my ex-boss and he still didn't recognise me, mind you, I haven't worked there since the mid 90's ;)

I assume the FAs moved her or ejected her from the aircraft?

You would think that, but NO!

I was very politely asked to move to her seat 1C; I graciously agreed.

As the CSM noted aloud, I had been opup from J! That was even ruder than the female politician.

OpUp is a slightly different situation I think - I wouldn't pushed it in that case. Having it mentioned loudly though is pretty rude. Personally I would rather be in 1C than 1J though - aisle rather than window?

Are you a refugee of the borg empire as well? Perth is too small a world.

Daryl Hannah was enjoying the hospitality of DJ yesterday morning in the DJ departures area in CNS when I walked past. She was not smiling, I suspect owing to the cancellation of her connection to an international flight.

Yes, but I worked there loooooong ago, back when they only had 2000 odd customers and there was still modems in MM's mums house in Padbury.

I remember the day they got their first 33.6k Modem, and their first banks of Cisco AS's with 56k dialup.

They were the good 'ole days :)

Although back in those days I was customer service. I'm now doing network engineering, and had a 4 year stint with the US's largest Telco running their network from Sydney as well. Now I'm doing Network and Voice engineering for a company that does pre-paid Global Roaming GSM SIM cards *good fit for my hobby, no?* ;)

Going OT now, I was around during the period known as the Borg Assimilation, circa 1999-2000. Based out of QV1, dial up was still the norm and we sold Netcomm modems by the truckload.

They floated on the ASX that year, and went on a massive acquisition trail (Omen, Wantree, TasAccess, others I can't remember). I also ran their first and only retail store at Karrinyup for about six months. We sold dial-up modems by the barrow load there too :D

It was also the year they released a whole range of merchandise, books (I still have a few copies somewhere) hats, polo shirts, and his and hers towels. The towels had an email address on them, and sending one to the address would have it send you back little love notes.

Thank god we're in the off topic forum ;)

I was there for the move into QV1 from 150 St Georges Tce (Opposite Bankwest Tower). Apparently I was remembered at the farewell party for QV1 as the 'fastest person to do a re-install of DUN on Windows 95'. Not sure if that was a good thing:)

I've managed to acquire certain iiWare as well (shirts/hats/pens/scarves etc). Nothing about the email address and love notes though:)

Wantree was just a few months after I left in 1997, as Andrew Milner took my email address because i forgot to pay for my account (I had andrew@iinet). Oh well I ended up with a better email address in the end:)

Kinda strange, I left iiNet and went to a string of companies before ending up in a decent job. Most the companies I worked for were eventually acquired by the collective, so it makes references a cough on resumes!

Anyway, back to famous people on flights. Here's hoping I see some more on my travels this year (last person I saw was Adam Savage of Mythbusters in F on a flight from LAX to LAS, and a few nights later I was seated in the front row of F with Caroline Reid, aka Pam Ann, sharing the window seat on the other side of the cabin with her minder. Really nice lady too, had a good chat about Melbourne and life here; like many comedians, totally different person to their stage persona).

Caroline was also more than happy to pose for a photo at gate lounge 62A opposite the AC in SFO with my friend and I. Great lady:)

So I was walking down Brisbane's main street Sunday arvo, and whom should walk towards me but the famous Mal from this forum and another place. The people I seem to run into.... Then , as a result, I ran into him later in the evening at a hotel executive lounge. Wink thingy. John.

Haha awesome!

Ran into Melissa George and Sandy Roberts in the space of about 30 minutes at the new shopping complex in Santa Monica CA a few weeks ago.

Also had Andrew O'Keefe walk past me in the MEL J lounge last week.

Seem to be on a run of C/D grade celebs!
