Flybuys Targeted Bonus Promotions

We're sorry for the glitch. We've captured the attempts to activate so hope all is ok now.

Thanks for looking into the matter.

I was able to activate the offer later in the night. I purchased some petrol today from Coles Express and the 10 cent discount came off as soon as I swiped my flybuys card and then I got an extra 4 cents off when I used a fuel docket.

I received coupons in the mail yesterday - the first coupons in months. 1000 points for $90 alternating with triple points. Plus some Liquorland vouchers and others for Coles branded products that I don't normally buy.

Managed to fit in a few offers with today's shop - a 1000 points for $50 email offer, a 5x points on biggest shop email offer, a triple points docket voucher, half price lamb shoulder roast offer. However, didn't spend enough to qualify for Week 1 of the mailout coupons.

I also got a docket deal which gives me 40x points if I buy toilet paper. It doesn't specify brand so I'll use it next week to top up my stockpile of Coles toilet paper.

Made a call about the lack of acknowledgement and after 24 minutes all fixed up including coupons and dockets.

Spent the $50 today and acknowledgement along with triple docket and 1,000 point coupon.

For the toilet rolls - have you considered the current special 8 for $3 Sorbent?

Tempted to preempt next Sunday's spend and just stock up on them but didn't get the 40x points which would a definite purchase - a nice extra 2,000 points for stocking up with half price goods :p

Did either of you manage to get 50% off the lamb? My wife received the same offer on her account and is adamant she activated it - after getting home from Coles, she realised that she paid full price for the lamb :(

Yes, I got the lamb offer as well as well as one for drinking chocolate.

Looks like I am buying lamb.

I did.

The price scans as normal, but doesn't come off until the cashier selects payment at the end. Have a look at your receipt to see if there the discount appears at the bottom of the receipt.

The offer was very specific and curiously enough potentially misleading given the two Coles I visited in the last few days.

The offer we got was for Lamb SHOULDER yet this week Coles had Lamb leg on special and at one large Coles there were 25+ Lamb Legs and just one lamb shoulder early on Saturday morning (7.40am). At another medium size Coles there were 20+ legs and not one lamb shoulder to be seen. Nor could I find a tag on the display where it may have been (if any stock in).

So, perhaps either this offer has been a resounding success or it is an example of the worst in "Bait advertising".

Any guesses which it is?

Just checked the receipt, and we definitely didn't receive the 50% discount - will chase it up with FB support I suppose...

I did.

Misleading? Sorry but that's BS. The tag on the packaging was word for word for what was on the offer.

Ours was for lamb shoulder roast, and we checked the details on my wife's phone while in store just to ensure we got the right product.

I did notice afterwards that the packaging contains the word 'boneless' while the offer doesn't...

Was it the correct cut of lamb? It was a shoulder roast only, not the more traditional leg roast. Had it been marked down with a special barcode? If it didn't have the right barcode the system wouldn't have recognised the product.

Chase it up with flybuys through your preferred contact method. It could just be a glitch. I've heard of this happening before. Good luck.

It sounds like there are at least 2 lamb offers around at the moment. I would have loved the shoulder chops offer. I would have definitely taken that offer up. I've never bought a shoulder roast. Perhaps there is a shoulder roast with bones and one without and the offer only applied to the one with bones. I have no idea.

I think it was a very confusing offer and given the other general promotions going on at the moment it could easily be seen as misleading. I think RAM is on the right track with the type of problem he suggests.

I got it. Made sure I took notice that I bought the shoulder. PITA because the description in the email didn't entirely match the description on the packet. Discount came in once the FB card was scanned.

Yes misleading.

Most consumers (so much money spent working out how to manipulate consumers) 96% are either not able to accurately comprehend written (let alone verbal) instructions OR do not read more than the first 5-8 words before moving on.

Canny AFFers mostly fall into the 4% basket.

Did anyone receive a lamb offer for the cut that was in plentiful supply this week and on special - Lamb leg roasts?

I suspect not. That there were multiple other lamb offers while a high volume cut is on special - in itself suggests an agenda by the marketing machine. This agenda does not look consumer friendly.

One offer I spoke with the ACCC about was early in 2016 when they had a special offer (FBuys) that only referred to a sub-segment of lamb forequarter chops. Again during a week in which forequarter chops were on special. Indeed the on-special ones were available for any weight from as low as single chop packets to the nearly 2kg packaging (covering three plastic container ranges).

Yes, you guessed it the FB offer was for a 4th container size at a higher price per kg and strangely enough many stores in my area did not have them in stock - EVER. After day 1 I requested the meat managers at three Coles to put aside some for me when they came in. They never did.

Bait advertising is illegal btw.

I got my lamb shoulder roast at 50% off, too. Same situation that mannej described. It initially scanned at full price and the discount wasn't applied until just before payment.

The Coles I visited only had two shoulder roasts on display and lots of legs of lamb. I tend to pick up my refrigerated and frozen items last and by the time I finished my shop and returned to pick up my meat, the two shoulder roasts had gone. But I found a third hidden deep among the legs of lamb!

We appreciate your feedback and that of others on this thread regarding the recent lamb offers. We have passed on to the relevant area the concerns around stock levels for the items with this promotion. We are very aware of our fair trading responsibilities and take this responsibility seriously.

We also appreciate the requirement to carefully describe the products in our terms and conditions; with the very large number of offers we make to members we recognise we are measured by any occasions we don't get it quite right. We also understand that some customers are confused about when the discount is applied with our free promotions - that is, at the end of the transaction, not when the items are scanned. This is a current system limitation but we try to make it clear in our offers how this operates.

Thanks for your feedback and clarification.

My suggestion is that you add an explanation at the end of the offer of when and where the discount will show on the receipt.
