Fog in SYD

Re: BNE popular for diversions this morning.

16L?

Thought that was an emergency runway for a 747.

No such thing, while its a tad shorter than 07/25, its capable of handling up to A380s as far as length and RFF facilities go with over 2.4km of LDA.

Re: BNE popular for diversions this morning.

QF6 missed approach . I think VA572 is going to have another crack at it

Re: BNE popular for diversions this morning.

VA572 missed approach #3

MH123 next in line on 2nd approach.

Have to feel for those in Air Traffic Control on days like the last two.

Re: BNE popular for diversions this morning.

JQ140 joins the missed approach club today, looks like QF6 next to try again.

Re: BNE popular for diversions this morning.

Working under 16L flight path this morning and I thought there was a bunch of flights landing from the noise but now I'm seeing they're just the same ones trying again!!

The fog would be on par with yesterday when everyone diverted. I hope the number crunchers didn't force the airlines to get a bit more riskier to avoid 2 diversion days in a row.

Re: BNE popular for diversions this morning.

All reports I have heard in the vicinity of the airport suggest the fog is thicker than yesterday, yet they are attempting landings?
I know situations like this are some what fluid, but when does it become apparent landings are going to be a issue.

Re: BNE popular for diversions this morning.

QF6, MH123 both heading South (MEL?)

Edit: Looks like JL771 broke the trend and landed.

Re: BNE popular for diversions this morning.

How many attempts did QF6 have...?

Looks like quite a few inbound to SYD doing laps around the Goulburn area.. makes me dizzy just watching it ;)

Really feel for the pax on those birds... especially the rare few that did it yesterday too...!

Following SYD arrivals on Plane Finder app & Live ATC YSSY (SYD) feed. Very interesting!

Threshold 16L falling. 3 x A333 (QF, then MH, then AC) missed approach. ATC asking hold or divert? JL 777 just landed 16L.

Re: BNE popular for diversions this morning.

It only had 1 missed approach & decided to go to MEL.

Re: BNE popular for diversions this morning.

QF20 missed approach, QF8 landed first approach.

VN773 makes it 2 intl landings in a row, maybe things are on the improve.
QF20 makes it on the Second attempt.

Re: BNE popular for diversions this morning.

Certainly gave me a shock this morning as I was driving on Southern Cross Drive and plane appears out of nowhere trying to land (about 850). Lots of noise so may have been on a goaround.

Back when I flew wth QF there was. A company restriction rather than anything relating to ability for the aircraft to land within the LDA.

Has not been in place for as long as I can remember, having seen quite a few heavy ops on 16L.

Re: BNE popular for diversions this morning.

Can someone remind me... Why they have to use 16L and not another runway, eg, 16R?

Re: BNE popular for diversions this morning.

I saw VS landed when I drove past this morning in the airport tunnel. I was driving past approx 8:05am.

Re: BNE popular for diversions this morning.

Thank you to QF for moving my morning flight to the night before free of charge to avoid any fog related delays in the morning! Love being WP!
