Best of luck FM, I think you might be disappointed though. Lounge access aside there is at times night and day between the service on each of them although if it's SYD-CBR I doubt you will notice.
I guess in the end, it doesn't matter what the service is like - there has to be a flight operating in the first place.

It is Syd-cbr so hopefully it will be fine - kind of looking forward to trying it - walk on the wild side for a change :)

I've done 7 or 8 SYD-CBR or vv flights with Virgin this year - my first Virgin flights in over 3 years. Despite no status (to begin with) I've always had good flights. Choice of seats (including right at the back on the ATRs - possibly because semi-flex flights booked). Have had empty seats next to me on more than half despite aircraft being I reckon 90% full. Or I've had one of the lovely FAs sit next to me for take-off and landing. Good service, friendly and efficient. Not sure I'd enjoy longer flights but for this hop I'm now very happy flying Virgin rather than QF.

I am feeling a bit nervous after reading your comments and Princess F! Taking my first ever Virgin flight on Saturday - mainly because Qantas cancelled the flght I was on and I didn't feel like staying in Sydney another night (only other available flight with Qantas was hours earlier and I couldn't make it). I figure Virgin can't be that different to Qantas on a short hop like that and I won't have any lounge access, so that solves that problem!
Virgin are OK. They are nothing special though and streets behind Qantas in more than just service.

It's not uniform. Transcontinental business on VA is very good.

That's OK. I have not used that service but take on board what people on AFF have said. But that is only a very small part of the Virgin coverage. Very small.

Hehe, good for you they have enough poor loadings so you always have an empty seat next to you.

I think you'll be disappointed if you do. The ADL lounge is a shoebox and the airline partnerships are at best flaky with the exception of NZ who really treat VA status passengers well.
Size is not everything - little wrong with the ADL VA lounge - it can get crowded like most airline lounges can in Australia.

I find DL, EY and NZ have treated me well as a VA elite.

The main thing though is when I am booking (normally months out) VA is generally 10%-20% cheaper than similar flights on QF.

Also, status is much easier to earn.

Having posted that, I do keep a foot in both camps ... :D

Well I got a pop up saying I have been renewed for Gold....then it disappeared still showing how much I need to earn by the end of the month.
Anyway I and now getting more interested with the Lifetime Status Points tracker as I near LTG......:)

Just got (very suprisingly) comped Silver status despite having barely flown for 2yrs (soft landing from gold last year) was sitting on 100SC... Have a aus-europe-africa in J partly in qantas next month but that's all....

I had the same thing about a month back, saying I had been renewed for platinum (despite being well short of the necessary SCs) and next time I checked it had disappeared. I kept checking, but the Apr 16 expiry remained. About a week later, I received my new platinum card in the mail!

I still logged in and checked my account regularly, and still stated the expiry stated Apr 16. Then, I checked on the morning on 1 May, and the account was updated - expiry 30 Apr 17!:) It looks like you will be in luck!

Comped Platinum again ~3 weeks before anniversary. I think that makes it 4 times now.

Currently on 1130 SCs but will get to 1210 SCs before 31 May.

Cutting it fine eh ...

I requalified WP back in March ... all eligible travel since has been credited to AAdvantage.

Not that fine. It has been planned that way for months. In fact I would have only earned 1200 SCs if Qantas hadn't given me an extra 10 SCs for award flight that earned SCs.

Checked mrsdrron's account this week. She is not quite 6 months into her year, not quite half of necessary SCs to requalify WP but noted her account had changed from you need xx_ SCs to retain plat to congratulations you have requalified platinum.
Then again the flights we have already booked would take her way over the 1200 mark.

Virgin was fine - hosties smiled, said nice things - honestly couldn't see any difference on that short hop. Did miss the lounge though - we arrived really tired after a long day and a comfy armchair would have been nice......

That is the earliest Platinum comp I have ever read about. In the past ~7 weeks from reassessment date was the earliest one would see a comp of status.

ok, I'm currently a lowly silver member. haven't been gold for 4 years. I've been 590 and 610 for the last two years and am now sitting on 685 with an end of June anniversary. Thoughts re comp?
thanks
