For those who have been comped status

Logged on today to check yesterday's flights have credited and was very surprised to be advised that I have requalified for Platinum.

Why? Well my membership year expires at 2359hrs 30 Nov (AEDST) and so far this year I've accrued a measly total of 190 SCs.

Hopefully wont need a comp this year with a US trip booked in October.

Very strange. Comp would normally occur approx 15 Nov.

Got no comp last month with 210 SC even with a letter albeit the prior 3yrs I was only 1200-1400 SCs with 2000+ before that

Not me, but I saw recently on Facebook that a member had been comped P1, which is the first I've heard of. They may be a member here, and if so can tell their story, but doesn't appear to be a part of the 3-year comp, but from a previous year where they earned over 9000SC!

A thing to note he was also a CL & had been P1 for 4 years, still, 9000 SC's in a year, WTF right. amazing total

Well I just logged on, fully expecting to see a comped P1 message. What do I see...

two upcoming J bookings cancelled - rebooked in Y.

Wonderful.

Obviously not expecting P1 comp. :) And 9000 SCs is insane.

That person was CLP1 for some time prior to dropping to P1 so I think that had quite a bit to do with it.

Missed your post

Ahh, I didn't see further posts perhaps... still, I was under the impression P1 comps didn't happen, so it's semi-useful to know that they can...

Weekly J return from the east coast to Asia would get to 10,000 SC for a year. In a way, I can imagine someone doing that, but I wouldn't want to try it myself.

I think I am going to need help from the comp fairies this year as I'll fall well short of requalifying Platinum.

Good thoughts please people.

I'll send you positive vibes, straitman, if you'll send them back my way.

And have just logged in here in BKK to check everything is ok for tomorrow's return flight and now it shows I need 1,110SCs to retain my WP status.

They're coming Qantas.

Year end is 31st August. Had some flights booked to NZ next week under the double SC offer, which would have had me retaining WP. I received in the post yesterday a new WP card, I'll still go to Auckland as it will contribute to my life time gold aim.

It's a good idea to keep going just in case you might fall short next year and actually need a comp.

If you had the flights booked, I would still do them unless you know you'll reach your target next year.

Continued with the flights, double sc offer has me retaining WP, don't think I'll get to P1 though!

Due to less work travel and access to ID travel with another airline* last year I will fall well short of 1200 SCs this membership year.
However my totals for 2014 and 2015 were 2470 and 1280 respectively.
Currently on 380 SCs and (2470+1280+380)/3 = 1376 average for the 3 years.
A quick trip to Adelaide over the weekend has satisfied the 4 QF sectors requirement for this membership year.
Year ends on 30 September so I am hoping this was just in time for the comp fairy to wave their wand in my direction at the end of this month.
If not, a holiday to Noumea will net another 320 SCs and make sure I retain Gold at least.

Please send me good luck!

*Ironically the family member who qualifies for the ID travel now flies with QF!

I'm sitting on 90 SCs with a September 30 year-end after around 4,000 and 1,700 for 2014 and 2015. Also have the four squiggles, so similarly hoping for a comp. Although if this year is any guide, I won't have much opportunity to take advantage of it.

I *think* I might have been comped SG around a decade ago, but not entirely sure.

Earlier this year I started a new job with quite a bit of travel for internal meetings (most of us work remotely). Starting with 0SC & Bronze (hadn't flown much for a few years, but been silver previously and a member for 10 years) -- I flew 510 SC in Y between 30 Jan & Aug 1 which is right on 6 months.

Anniversary is sadly Aug 31, so looked like I was going to miss out on Gold sitting at 510/700 with 30 days left. Despite earning the 510 in 6 months and a booking on Sep 7-15 which would have taken me over only 2 weeks after the anniversary date, a lovely and surprisingly sympathetic woman at Qantas advised there was nothing they could do for me either to comp the status, move the anniversary date or include the flights 2 weeks later (did seem though, if I departed before the 31 AUG, they could possibly have included or comped based on the return travel). She did however tell me if the margin was much smaller, perhaps 15-20 SC, that they could assist.

Fortunately work came through with a short notice PER-LHR trip on Aug 7-15, despite a standard discount return trip only being 120SC (that would have been a kick in the pants) luckily for me being short notice there were only saver fares available on the way out and I was able to route through SIN going PER-SIN-DXB-LHR for a bonus 15SC for little extra cost. Double win because it chops the 11h PER-DXB into 5h20m+7h20m with a chance to enjoy Changhi - the butterflies were awake this time :-). On the way back Sale was still available but only about $150 cheaper than Saver, so I kicked in an extra $150 to bump my total SC earn from 120 to 175.

This left me sitting on 685/700 with 15 days to spare, rang up and they were able to comp me Gold status. Yay! :D This is the first time I've held Gold/Lounge level status on any Airline so very exciting, doubly so as I am off on a 3-week trip to Europe for my Honeymoon in December and the gold benefits will not go astray!

I've got 390SC worth of travel booked in before January, so should have no issue re-qualifying hopefully! It's unlikely I'll make at all Platinum, as even with this years set of flights being particularly high density I would probably only hit 1100 maybe 1250SC on a rolling 12 month basis. But with many of my trips to Europe on EK metal and the PER connections in DXB generally being quite short - there's probably not that much practical value.

Lack of upgradability on EK metal out of PER is driving me bananas though, and you need to really save to use an award booking since one-way flights and sectors to DXB have a hefty premium over half-return. Will also be interesting if PER-LHR nonstop on the 787 materializes.
