For those who have been comped status

ok, I'm currently a lowly silver member. haven't been gold for 4 years. I've been 590 and 610 for the last two years and am now sitting on 685 with an end of June anniversary. Thoughts re comp?
thanks

That's not really a comp you are asking about. That's getting made up to Gold whilst short of SC.
A bit different to what this thread is about.

If I were you I'd jump on a cheap day return domestic somewhere before the end of June. I do not believe that QF will bring you up to Gold without either you actually qualifying or contacting them proactively and pleading your case.

Yep... I have done a short trip on either JQ or QF to get over the line.

You are close so if it was me I Would Make It Happen

No chance. It's usually (anecdotally) based on your previous 3 years earn.

A bit of a slap In the face to QF surely after offering up a DSC to all - that a client thinks they can ignore it and still get a freebie

Not all that funny, mummy.

Haven't been living in Australia for a while, but do people get this emotional about their (say) phone or electricity company?

I haven't needed to be comped for a while, and don't/can't make Platinum One while living overseas, but Qantas still treat me well and make it clear that they know I'm important to them. Or at least do a really good job of pretending.

And those of you who know Abdul know that it can go further than that.

They wouldn't put someone up a rank, but you really should try to make it over the 700 mark. In future years, maintaining gold would only require 600 so with your current patterns, you won't even need to worry about comps.

Well I got a pop up saying I have been renewed for Gold....then it disappeared still showing how much I need to earn by the end of the month.
Anyway I and now getting more interested with the Lifetime Status Points tracker as I near LTG......:)
Just to confirm I have been automatically comped, letter arrived, with wording indicating that it was pre-emptive comp as I may be crediting flights in the meantime.

Having retired from 5yrs of frequent travel,I accepted that my QF Gold would disappear on May 31. Nice surprise then to get comped for the year ahead.Letter was very well done & "noticed I had not traveled enough to re qualify but...".Thanks Qantas

Okay here's one for the braintrust:

Im currently sitting on a 3-year 5k+ SC count. The flights this year will allow me to retain WP as per norm.

Will the en gratis status snowball towards a year I likely won't make the required SC for WP requalify or will it slide?

No idea but my guess is it's all coughulative.

Hopefully I am wrong, but there is a problem with Qantas.com in that it may show you still as SG with an expiry end May next year even though you are indeed to drop to PS.

This is because Qantas hold you at your status for a few days into the month, probably to await the chance of any additional SC's from last month posting - and the poor job of a web site cannot cope. If this is the case, you may be disappointed early next week.

Happy to inform, that I had received a letter & new SG card late May, informing of comp for a further year

Great!

What I was referring to is characterised with the web site for a few days into the new month showing status as being extended but no new card/pack received.

Those who are comped, generally receive the new card mid month (in this case, May), jut as you now indicate.

Notso lowly silver anymore. 685 and granted gold. Very gentle push and gold 10 mins later.

Without anyone having seen the criteria for a comp written down most anecdotal evidence suggests that a rolling 3 year average is used. My personal experience (one SG comp and one WP comp) agree with this. So I'd suggest if your next year won't get you there you'd keep it. No guarantees though!

I was very close to booking an expensive status run a few weeks back but decided to leave my gold renewal in the hands of the three year average gods. They visited late yesterday and despite sitting on a lowly 360 and with only a single future flight booked they were pleased to tell me I have retained gold for another year. Time to get planning those J rtw points flights

Congrats!

I'm still hoping for a comp... WP for 5 straight years, just enough SCs to make it every year. This time, I've made only 395 SCs.

SG, here I come :(

Logged into my Qantas FF account to check something and there was a big flashing notice congratulating me on retaining platinum. Checked Mr FM and he had the same thing. So I guess that is a Comp for both of us (renewal date of 31 August). We both have slightly over 500 status credits for this year and no status earning travel booked. However our 3 year average (including this year), is around 1600. Quite like having platinum, so thank-you Qantas. Just nice to have somehow :). We are planning a trip to East Africa, which we will probably book as a Qantas codeshare, but not sure whether that will happen in the next membership year or not (weddings and honeymoons are getting in the way), so it will probably be back to lowly gold in a year :)

Not me, but I saw recently on Facebook that a member had been comped P1, which is the first I've heard of. They may be a member here, and if so can tell their story, but doesn't appear to be a part of the 3-year comp, but from a previous year where they earned over 9000SC!
