General Coronavirus chit chat thread - non-travel specific

FWIW - I thought our Australian PM spoke very clearly and very well - no confusion for me.

This morning we listened to our Victorian Premier speak for night on an hour and he spoke exceptionally well - no confusion there either.

Yep - the problem is they said different things!

The one downer of this post merge is that you Agree on the first post but then  on the merged post. She did say no didn't she ......
Yes in fact I think she gave him such a lecture on the meaning of isolating and social distancing that when the delivery person who brought him his dinner asked if he could use the bathroom he said no :)

Sounds like NSW & VIC are about to go to level 3 and leave the other states on level 2 which would explain the difference in statements. Probably would have been clearer for all if this is what they announced last night.

Based on the NSW & VIC Premier press conferences this morning and the news that the National Cabinet is going to define level 3 tonight. I'm not saying it will happen tonight but based on everything else, things with COVID move in hours or days, not weeks.

No dinner party, no shopping trip is worth a life and if we don't follow those rules, if we don't use common sense and don't fundamentally change the way we live, we will not slow the spread of this virus," he told reporters.

"We will not flatten the curve. Our hospital system will be overwhelmed and Victorians will die."

Mr Andrews says "stage one was tough" and stage three may need to occur "in different parts of the country at different times".

"That's one of the reasons why national cabinet will again be meeting tonight, to talk about that and a whole range of other issues," he said.

Apparently Gerry Harvey is delighted with Covid-19. Air Purifier sales are up 100% and freezers 300%. He feels people should lighten up and not worry about a few deaths and just keep on buying.
He disgusts me. He disgusted me before and now he's morally bankrupt. He needs to go look at the tragic queues outside Centrelink. Everywhere. What a disgusting sod.

That's a self satisfied smirk.

It had to come :(. Son-in-law will have to go on Centrelink, which he will find very hard as he is quite proud - will have to watch his mental health. :(

we are not in a position to give much financial help, as our shares have taken a beating, but fortunately our son has already said he will send whatever funds are necessary to help his sister. It’s a time for families to band together (spiritually not physically :) ).

Yes, you have company here too. DIL has now returned to work a bit earlier than planned. She is a GP and has just picked up work with Telehealth so BF still on track. Sad times.

Seeking thoughts of AFF'ers regarding the flu vaccination which has recently become available. With all the social distancing & other precautions will the normal flu season likely be pushed back until later in the year? If so would you hold off getting the flu vaccination for a month or two?

I did mine Monday. Husband yesterday. Last year he developed the flu in April and was very unwell. So he got in early this year.. I didn't get the flu. For some reason Adelaide had a bad and early flu season last year and I notice that one of the strains in this years flu shot is called "Adelaide".

I figured if we started to develop flu like illness then 90% it would be Covid and we could act accordingly as opposed to wondering if it might be just plain flu.

Its quite painless and I just had a slight awareness of the tender arm for less than a day. The pharmac_'s slots were completely filled. But they had organised it well with no queues.

Ours isn’t available for two weeks but we will be getting as soon as it is. Medical advice is to get it soon
